Round Five One Red Division 3-12-05Click here to Return to Pennant Scene
All went not as expected in round Five
A terrific round of games played and lots of upset results.
The biggest upset was the Leeming win against the Power House, these results
are great for the competition
Cockburn stagger across the line in a do or die win against The Magic and boy
didn't last years premiers need that win.
The Bedford Bulls win, we thought they would!! but good signs from the Doggies
that they will be competitive.
Cambridge to good for the Wanneroo Express and how good does this win get for
the competition!! Oh AND I all most forgot, how good for -- Cambridge.
Osborne Park, where and what have you been doing, and where are you going!!!!?
Vic
Park
show
some
fight,
well
three of the rinks do.
BULL QUOTE Chilli Illich who has been doing a very
good job playing as two for Pieter Harris, is wrapped to be associated with
this rink and says "Bedford can go all the way with the talent they have
at the moment, Chilli says he just can't wait for Saturdays to come around each
week.".

OK,,, so!! Yes any one would have tipped this win. Form says so and it proves
to be correct. The new rink of Lance Strahan and Barry Gartrell John Trewhella
and Kevin Collins go down to John Currie with a heavy loss.12/21 which is a
surprise to most of the Bedford Bulls supporters to see a blowout of this
size.
Interesting clash where we see Stu Bainbridge facing up to last years team
mate and coach Sid McCann. It was a battle royal with Stu coming home with
the point.

The Jones Boy { skip}, B. Richardson. Paul Hunter, J.
Carlsen----28
N. Watson {skip}, J. McGrath, J. Carpenter, K. Tudor--------------11
This game was good up untill the 9th end where
we saw the scores 7/5 in favour of the Jones Boy. Then it became a
cake walk for the Jones boy and his rink to lead 19/6 on the 16th end then
to scoot away 28/11 for a most impressive win for the Bulls outfit.
The Jones boy's rink has won five straight to get away to a flyer for the
season.
Neil Watson and John McGrath fronted up to their old team after leaving last
season. Boy what a welcome back to Bedford they recieved!!
Best Player for Bedford was again the Skipper the Jones
Boy
The
Jones Boy is best for his team, four out of five so far for the season.
=========================================================
Lance Strahan {skip},Barry Gartrell ,John Trewhella,
K. Collins---12
John Currie (skip), I. Cooper, T. Kay,
J. Bills. -------------------------21
What a great win for the Yokine Doggies on this particular rink. It was nip
and tuck with little separating the the teams in the first 10 ends where
the score was 10/10 all. Bedford won only two ends from this point on and
lost 12/21
There were changes to this rink for Bedford,
Lance
Strahan taking over the
reigns
from Barry Gartrell. Well the word is Barry Gartrell had a busy day at the
office and Lance couldn't do a thing right as far as where the shot he would
play just would not go to where he would wish it to go.
OK Kevin Collins who has been very good of late, was not as good today.
John Bills won his position and played extremely well.
Barry Gartrell played a great game for Bedford in his new position as three.
However all the credit goes to John Currie and his boys for a well earned
win with a great display.
Best for Leeming was Third Barry Gartrell
Best for Yokine was leader John Bills.

P. Harris {skip} N. Minchin, M.Illich ,F. Andrich...................20
A. Davis {skip}, D. Haydock, J. Gallop , B. Morrison.

A real tight game for both sides right up till the 10th end where the
score was 6/6 all. From here on the Bedford Bulls got right into gear
and shot away to a commanding lead to be 15/7 on the 15th end.
Well from this point on it was a case of never give in for Alan Davis
and his boys who had a solid crack at it to just fail to catch Pieter
Harris and lose 18/20. One more end and who knows?
Great to see Pieter Harris continue with his winning run of now 5 straight
wins and playing a big part of the Bulls resurgence.
Best for Bedford was Skipper Pieter
Harris .
Best forYokine was--- leader Brad Morrison

S.Bainbridge {skip}, M. Lemos, S. Shaw, M. Trewhella.---------19
T. Braugham {skip},S. McGann, A.Feltham. J. Lorencs.--------16
What a game of interest, Stu Bainbridge playing against his club of last season
and Sid McCann the coach. Well from reports it was a tame sort of game but
the scoreboard indicates that it was better than that.
While the standard wasn't high, it was tight, 8/8 all at the 10th end, 16/16
all on the 19th. Stu got up to win 19/16
After the game Stu said it wasn't the best of games as far as standard goes
but he paid tribute to the third Mel Lemos who played some telling bowls when
they were needed most.
Best player for Bedford was third Mel Lemos
Best player for Yokine was second Adrian Feltham
Cambridge (7) DEF Wanneroo
(1)...........88/
65.....
A lot riding on this game and we thoughtit would be close but
the game of the round was a fizzog-- Cambridge far to good on the day.
Led
by John Rainoldi who had a huge win against Clive Adams 31/14. John has been
very good for Cambridge so far this year. Clive's rink were disappointing today
and performed well below their best, as the score indicates.
Brian Katunarich had a nice win against the revamped Ron Bates's rink
24/12. The player of the match was the second Greg Kane, who had a very game
undoing what ever the wanneroo leader Russ Bates set up. Another good player
for Cambridge was the third, Mick McGann. The Roo boys rink just couldn't get
going today.
Ron Stockton has come up with a draw against Stein Davies 14/14 in a good game,
we dont see scores as low as this in many games. Both sides continue to impress.
Geoff Ellis won the only point for The Roo boys with a one shot win over Trsytan
Smallacome 20/19.
=============================================================
Cockburn(6.5) DEF Melville (1.5)...............71/68.....
Melville couldn't possibly lose, no!! Yes they could, In
a surprise to the bowling world the Magic throw away all the hard work they
have acheived to this point of the season. Cockburn take home what they came
to play for, the big end of the points
D. Brown and his rink come good for Cockburn with a good win over Colin Fleay
and his rink who have been outstanding lately. 20/10.
Norm Pascoe (pictured) great game yesterday in the drawn game against Jeff
Hall
Joe Galipo played his first game as skipper and the rink did a very good
job with a draw against the well performed rink of Jeff Hall 17/17
Steve Srhoy gets the point against Jon Sharp, to play a vital part of the
win for Cockburn 24/21. Steve is still as sharp as ever and his rink are
doing a great job for Cockburn.
The biggest result of the game was the defeat of Russell Hughes by Rookie
skipper Cameron Girvan, Terrral, G. McCormack, Harber. in a great win 20/10. Should
give the rink a real boost and well done fellahs.
==================================================
Leeming
(7) beat Doubleview(1)..................85/65...
This game is certainly an upset win for Leeming who continue to confound
the tipsters and critics with their fantasic performance so far the season.
Any doubts, if there were any about Rhett Butler, have been put to rest with
a great win against the previously undefeated Robbie Ball 21/13
In a radio interview at the start of the season Rhett did say that Leeming
were aiming for the four and I guess most thought he was off his lid. Not
without a chance now.
Bruce Edwards continues to show that One Red don't phase him and with a nice
win against rookie skipper John Slavich 25/19
Anthony Provost has been a very good player for Leeming and has made a difference,
his rink winning against Pat Buller 22/13
Kyle Mclroy broke thru for his first win for the season
getting hold of Wayne Heldt and his rink
==================================================
Osborne Park (5) Victoria Park(3) ....................87/
85....
Must say that Osborne Park are disappointing, with so much riding on the
outcome, they lose on three rinks. One wonders why things have gone so wrong
for O.P this season. Where to now for Osborne Park, final four hopes fading,
battling to beat V.P. and have to face up to Cambridge next week.
Victoria Park have come out fighting and put in a huge effort to almost
take what should have been a great victory. Justin Opie and his rink were
hammered 36/8, they are a far better side than that. Daniel Trewella
and his young rink have saved the day for O.P with this huge win.
Rooster Wishart (pictured) doing a great job, unbeaten
skipper so far this season.
Rooster Wishart, K. Pickering, C. McNeil, G.Hiskens remain undefeated with
a very good win over John Goddard 23/18
Mark Simpson breaks thru for his first win of the season beating Wings Evans
21/15
Steve Withers has his first win for the season against the very good rink
of Bill Galloway, with an impressive 33/18 win.
