I have recieved enquiries from our visitors regarding news on the State teams, Men and Women.
Pam Glossop our CEO discussed several issues on SportFM 91.3 last Saturday morning.
One of the issues to come up was that in future, players selected for the State Squad would be required to pay $150New
Once in the squad if selected to play and represent W.A they would be required to pay a further $300.00.Old
Pam went on to explain that the $150 would help pay towards the cost running of the high performance program the players would be involved in.
It costs around $2500 per player when the side travels Interstate and the selected players would be required to pay an extra $300 to help offset that cost, making it an overall payment of $450 for each selected player.

Doubleview reign supreme at Carlisle to win the Grand Final against The Victoria Park reds in a masterful display of all round bowling talent.
They beat a determined Victoria Park Reds after a great struggle to gain the ascendancy in a thrilling contest.
Considered to be out of the race to win a place in the four after a little more than half the season had passed, the PowerHouse have answered their critics and detractors in the best way possible to win the final 73/67. Doubleview PowerHouse won on three rinks to one

Just a note to advise that Cambridge has won promotion in all other five colours apart from Premier.
We in One Blue would like thank your One Blue Commentator for giving us a bit of extra impetus and note that he got ALL of his tips wrong.
No big deal that but being part of getting into One White is huge for all of those players who participated.
Thankyou

Pieter Harris announced his retirement from the State side.
He said that he needed a break for 12 months and possibly more.
This series at Tuggernerong hasn't produced the success of past series .
However that has nothing to do with his decision.
Pieter has proven himself to be an outstanding leader with many solid performances over the past 5 Interstate Sides series to back it up.
We wish him every success for the future
and hope that he becomes available down the track

As sherro was doing his report last night on yesterday's games I recieved a phone call from my very good mate Lindsay Thorn from Doubleview.
He asked why had I left so early and not stayed on to watch the game against Osborne Park, without waiting for an answer he then said wev'e got this for you Sherro, just listen to this
He, along with my many adoring Doubleview fans and players belted out the Doubleview Club song, it was fantastic, I have just gotta give them plenty of credit, it was sung with plenty of gusto and not a word or tune out of place.
So there we were with me on the phone and joining in singing along with the players as I knew some of the words
Of course it was obvious that it was never intended to stick it up me as one might tend to think.
I have to admit it makes me feel extra special when some of my many fans
go out of their way to sing such a great song just for me and it brightened me up no end after trying to get over the Saints loss to them.
Well done to the PowerHouse

Very much worth a mention
MAYBE IT’S A RECORD
CAN ANYBODY CONFIRM ?
Thornlie second division White completed the home and away matches this season unbeaten – yes that’s right 17 wins and a draw for a grand tally of 120.5 points.
What a brilliant effort from all bowlers who participated.
Thornlie has a lot to be proud of with those 16 or so bowlers, who achieved so well, week in and week out, throughout the season.
The quiet achievers were in the shadow of their One White peers for much of
the season, just getting on with the job.
The skippers, Ken Triner, Bruce Deters, Ross MacMillan and Kevin Sayer were
a rock as one. They will all do well
in 1 Blue next season.
It will be interesting to see whether any club has emulated this level of performance in years past. Can anybody tell us please!
Go boys – we will watch your progress in Blue next year with great interest.

Radio Station 91.3 are to go to Canberra to broadcast the Men's Interstate sides series.
Colin Minson who has done an enormous amount to help promote the game of bowls on radio here in the West over many years will head the team along with Mike Zusman who is another who has given his all in promoting the sport on his weekly Bowls show over many years.
Sherro has been asked to be a part of program and I must say I am delighted to be a part of the broadcast..
The broadcast will be heard on 91.3 FM and also over the internet
We will alert the visitors of the schedule a little later.

Wagin First Division has just finished its home & away games and has recorded something very unique.
Whilst losing two aggregates away from home it has gone through the season undefeated at home (nothing remarkable about that) but what is remarkable is that they never lost (or drew) on a rink for the entire season. I wonder how many clubs could claim that they have won every home game and on every rink for an entire season.
For their efforts Wagin move directly into the Grand Final (their opponents to be determined by playoffs) to be played at Wagin.

This is a remarkable acheivment when you take into consideration that Sth Perth is a Premier League club and a man of this age will play in the singles final
Ray Pride will represent the old brigade when he takes on State Squad member Ross Bresland in the South Perth Club Singles on Tuesday night.
Ray who will be 88 years old next month has won the South Perth singles 5 times, the last 22 years ago, while Ross will be chasing his first singles title.
Remarkably Ross won through to the final defeating Matt Ellul 21-1 in the Semi, with a devastating driving game, with Ray sneaking past Bob Bandy 21-16.
The draw vs the drive will make for an interesting final !

With a new CEO taking over the reigns perhaps we could review the current pennant format and break away from the tired old format of fours.

The Doubleview Bowling Club have sent a donation of $1000.00 to the Victorian fire appeal.
Once again we see Aussies come to the fore when disaster strikes.
Many thanks to Doubleview
and for their immediate action in donating to their fellow Australians in their most desperate hour of need
I have no doubt that other W.A Bowling clubs will follow the lead of the Doubleview Bowling club and donate to the Victorian fire appeal
W.A people are noted for their generosity and particuarlaly in times such as these

Bassendean bowling club has also put their hands up and donated $500 to the Victorian fire appeal

Master Builders Assn and Bowls Past Presidents W.A Social Bowling Clubs assist the Victorian Bushfire appeal with a much needed cash donation.”
On February 11, nearly sixty bowlers played a game of 17 ends at Doubleview in very warm conditions. MBA won 115 shots up to 76 – a handsome 39 shot victory.
As each club normally holds a raffle it was decided that money collected for a combined raffle and miscellaneous personal donations would be a fitting gesture.
This joint effort raised $1042.00, which has been forwarded to the appropriate point of control.
All bowlers and Clubs are encouraged to support this worthwhile cause.
Thanks to everyone for their generosity.

Once again it proves that father knows best as the saying goes.
The famous Ball family had members of that family played one and other in the Mosman V Hilton One White game last saturday.
Norm Ball (Hilton Park) and father of Brad Ball of Mosman Park lined up against one and other.
There were no holds barrred in this critical game for both sides and possibly get even time for Brad.
Norm won the first game 17/14 and improved on that performance in the second meeting and won 22/14 to keep Hilton Park's slender hopes of making the finals alive and to keep them away from the dreaded relegation zone.
As we said "Father knows best"

Did you see this little gem in the Letters to the Editor section of this morning's West?
I remember Jon Harper-Nelson as the stiff upper lip British-accented announcer on the ABC years ago.
In those days it was hard to imagine that he would even know what a screw was, let alone now (at the ripe old age of 87) forgetting what a screw is
Still - lucky bugger having a spouse who suggests such a thing to him
-----------------------------
"With 2009 upon us I have now learnt the true meaning of old age. Last week, as I lay basking on my verandah, my wife, who had been engaged in some domestic maintenance, came to me and said: "Darling, what I need is a really long screw."
Without a thought I went out to my shed to look for one.
John Harper-Nelson, Bassendean"

We have received word that State skipper Russell Hughes has been dropped to play three for the Reds in saturday's big game against Cambridge.
It is hard to understand why he has been changed, last Saturday Russell's front two bowlers were beaten pointless by the Osborne Park lead and second, the score 4/18 down reflects this point.
One might think that the front two players are the ones that need changing.
Jeff Mitchell has replaced Russell Hughes as skipper.
Russell has demonstrated often that he is a great skipper and he will be skip in the up coming Interstate Sides Series in March

Mt Pleasant will play Kardinya this friday night at Mt Pleasant on the carpet.
Word getting around is Mt Pleasant who have won their last three straight and making a move to make the finals are very confident they can roll the Kardy's.
With names like Brian Jepperson, Geoff White, John Terrell and Hugh McKay to lead the way, who knows, they might cause an upset.
Kardy skips are Danny Comrie, Wayne Heldt, Mike Yates and
Terry Ball
