Some big games on this weekend

February 5, 2009

Some very big games on this weekend and none bigger than the game between Kardinya and Victoria Park Reds in One Blue South.
Both sides have lost only one game each this season. Kardinya beat Vic Park in the first round to inflict the Reds only loss for the season.
It could be get even time for the Reds

This game features the only unbeaten rink in the entire first division, Brian Barnfield (sk) Fred Holt, Henry Lim and C. Hayes.

For Kardinya They have Dannie Comrie(sk) Rob Foy, Ian Hastings, R. Jaggs who have lost only one game this season.

Should be a cracker of a game
Who do our vistors favour for this pivotal game

Full draw for the State Triples

January 16, 2009
Many thanks to Bianca for releasing the full draw of the State Triple to be played next week
The entries are well down in the State Triples compared to previous years, the new format has not been accepted by the bowling fraternity.
Not because they don't want to play in them but because of work committments they can't play in them.
We need to have as many players compete in the State events as possible.
After many alterations to the fours format players have not returned to compete in that event. Hopefully this is not the case here with the State Triples

It is hard to imagine that this format will be followed next season.

Silvertail antics find national support.

November 11, 2008
Hi guys, I am a bowler from Richmond Union Bowling Club "THE TIGERS" in Victoria....M

Came across the Dalkeith report from a thread in our Bowls World web site, I haven't pissed my pants laughing for a long time but this report has put the P back into Incontinence Pad.

The best I've read on any sport round up, second to none. Have book marked your site and will be reading on a weekly basis.
It's getting a lot of coverage over here and the word is out.
As a club renowned for its Piss Drinking Skills and off rink antics, we totally relate to the team structure you have.

Keep em coming, I'm off to the doctor to have the grin surgically removed from my facesupa

Doubleview skipper James Jaworski has quit the Doubleview Bowling clubSupa_two.

We have been aware of this information for the past 3 days but held off publishing it in the hope that any problems could be resolved.Supa_3

James did tell me that he was seeking a clearance to Victoria Park and if that didn't eventuate he would be off to Tooday to play.

James has also been suspended from the State Squad for indiscreet behaviour after a State practice session at the Yokine Bowling Club 3 weeks ago.

All State squad members have been sent letters informing them of their obligations regarding behaviour.

PLAYERS NEEDED

November 6, 2008

Due to the Box All Stars taking place at Yokine on the 7th December, I have a very large imbalance of players taking place on the two days of the Masters.

I have more than 40 on the 30th, and about 20 on the 7th to date, with a few more to come, and with the usual late starters. Not as many as I would like, however it is normal for this time of recruiting, apart from the imbalance....

This leaves a very good opportunity for the lesser known players that qualify, to play on the second day, as majority of the "stars" are playing on the first day.

Wondering if you could put out a call on your website for those that qualify and have not entered to consider entering on the 7th December.

Pennants get underway in three States

It is interesting to note that In Sth Australia the greens are mainly tifdwarf and they never have problems starting their pennant season mid October.

Anthony Provost withdraws from State squad

October 24, 2008
Anthony Provost has withdrawn from the State squad, as yet we are not aware of the reasons behind the withdrawal.

We are hoping to bring details behind both resignations soon.

The boys each won a $500 gold nugget (which has gone up in value since the win) and also picked up $1,400 in the calcutta.

Four of the five wins were decided on the last end. Perhaps the most dramatic was a come from behind win at 3-12 with 4 ends to play against perinial runner-up Echo Widemouski and team from Wanneroo who again ran second.

This is a great win 68 / 58 to keep them on track to win the series

October 7, 2008

Report from Greg Kelly
Skipper Steve Srhoy (pictured) saved the day for WA against Victoria with great draw bowls - down 2 overall and 2 down on the head on the 61st end - Steve drew the shot with his last bowl to make the difference 1 shot with two ends to play - holding one shot Steve drew another to give WA a one shot lead going into the last end.

The guys responded to the skippers great play and drew close bowls on the last end enabling the team to hang on and win by 2 shots overall. A great team effort by Shroy's rink to win 25/8 against a top Victoria skipper and for WA to win 53/51 in their first match of the day--.picture courtesy John Morgan

WA played THBC in the morning practice match.. and the THBC lads said they won by 2 shots? - I think it was more likely a draw

The 2008 Senior State Sides Round Robin commenced today at Tweed Heads Bowls Club in clear blue skies but windy blustery conditions.

Queensland playing for a hat trick of wins were up against formidable opponents in New South Wales in round one and struggled against the head wind which caused all players problems on 16 sec greens.

NSW skippers Brian Harriot, John O'Neill and Sam Laguzza inflicted a 57 shot win against favourites Queensland who to start "an hour behind" New South Wales.

In round two in the closest match of the day, WA skipper Steve Srhoy won 25/8 against Vic Skipper Brian Close to enable WA to snatch a thrilling 2 shot victory 53/51

The last round is a tough round to select the winners with 3 games in the Premier League in doubt as to who will win the game
In One White we have 3 games also that could go either way.

Osborne Park Ladies do the shave

November 17, 2008
Last Friday was the day of the big shave off at the Osborne Park Bowling Club.

Yes Joyce and Raelene had their hair shaved off to raise money in support of the Cancer Foundation

The huge amount of money raised in such a short time shows how generous West Australians can be for such worthy causes and how much these two Ladies were committed to help the cause.

Jamie O`Keefe selected in the State squad

November 25, 2008
Yokine Premier League skipper Jamie O`Keefe was selected to be a member of the State squad.

Jamie who came here 12 months ago from N.S.W. had played as a 3rd for the powerful Cabramatta bowling club which has some of the best bowlers in the country playing for them.
He was in their Premier League side for about 4/5 years

Upon his arrival here in Perth 15 months ago Jamie was an unfortunate victim of the rule where he had to wait for residential qualifications to be served before he could play pennants therefore missing 4 games at the start of the season before being eligible to play.
Jamie is about 29 years of age.

October 11, 2008

Tipping Comp

October 29, 2008
There has been a venue change for the Osborne Park V Wanneroo game. Osborne Park were named as the home team and that shows on the tipping sheet. They have switched the game to play it at Wanneroo. We cannot alter the card now

After months of frustration and hard work to get the tipping comp to function correctly, we have not allowed for such an occurrence that a team would switch venues. We would not be able to alter the draw of the teams once we have coded it in .

Unfortunetley all tips for that game will be deemed a draw so all tippers will be awarded a point for that game. Please make sure to make a selection for that game

Ladies State squad named

October 4, 2008
The Ladies State squad has been announced
Squad

Two named for inclusion in the State squad

October 11, 2008
BowlsWA have announced that Thomas Mitchell and Cameron Tunstall have been added to the State squad.

This is in recognition of both players fine performances. Thomas winning the Mt Lawley Consistency Singles and Cameron for winning the National Junior Singles Championship recently.

I guess that Thomas can take heart from the fact that almost all in the past few years who have won this title have found their way into the State squad or to the State 16, Lance Strahan is one that never made the 16 but did make the squad.
Young Cameron is going from strength to strength and is sure to be a future State player.

Congratulations to both players on their selection and to the selectors for rewarding players who perform in major events.

The State squad were put thru their paces on Fathers day. That is what you call committment especially when the Interstate Sides Series is not on till next March, a mere 25 weeks away.

Will this training session make a lot of difference to the teams performance in the next series?

Meanwhile how many of the players and their families would have preferred any other day for this training session rather than on Fathers day?
The question is, how much difference will this training session make to the State Sides prospects next March on such an important day for families

Helensvale win the National 5 a side Challenge

Helensvale won this terrific event against South Tweed by one shot 68/67
Helensvale were loaded with some of the best talent in Australia, Anthony Kiepe, Brett Wilkie, Nathan Rice, Robert Thompson and Mark Casey. They could come and play for Osborne Park anytime they like.

This team was also the Calcutta favourite and were bought for $1300.00 and returned $6500.00
An outstanding effort by Helensvale who have won it back to back which takes some doing considering the depth of the field

South Tweed are only one shot and $2000.00 worse off by running second.
They had the great Kelvin Kerkow who is the best player there could be on the planet,Hec Beswick, Nigel Smith, Neville Jenkins and a lady named Sally Hickman.

Congratulations to both sides for their performances

On a sad note Osborne Park were a tad disappointing finishing 16th out of 20 sides and Doubleview who finished 18th.
Still it is a pretty tough gig to go and take on this kind of talent
Lets hope this concept becomes bigger in the years to come.

Top marks to Helensvale on a well organized event and many thanks to Brett Wilkie for his help.

MAJOR TYRE RETAILER JOINS OUR LIST OF SPONSORS

August 11, 2008
Major tyre and wheel company “BOB JANE TMARTS “ have joined our growing list of businesses as a sponsor, they are regarded as the number one tyre retailer in the industry with well over 130 stores across the country and 17 in W.A.

Many of you will have come in contact with Erron Martin who has been bowling for just over ten years now, he moved from Kalamunda to Vic Park last year . Erron owns and operates the Midland “Bob Jane T Mart" and has sponsored numerous bowling events in the metro and country towns.

Erron told me that "being number one" in customer service is the reason Bob Jane T Marts have progressed to their position in the tyre market, together with being part of a multi tyre brand company where all the major brands are offered such as Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama and Maxxis.

We welcome Bob Jane T Marts as a sponsor of the "Premier League Review" and as with all our sponsors just give them a chance to do business with you they can be contacted by the links located on our list of sponsors on the left hand side of this page .

The winners of the W.A section of the Professional Bowlers Association flew out of Perth Last night to the Tweed Heads Bowling Club in an endeavour if they win to qualify for a trip to England where they will take on the world's best.

The full team is Aaron Delaporte, Jarrad Rainoldi, Melissa Solley, James Jaworski, Stein Davies, Shane Knott, Trystan Smallacombe, T. Mitchell and Rod "Rocket" Heaton.

We wish the Boys (and girl) well in their quest and we will keep visitors to our site informed of the players progress.

Good news for bowlers

August 5, 2008
Some excellent news for bowlers is the radio bowls show will be back on air this year. The Program was cancelled halfway thru last season when Western Sports Media lost the right even after 16,000 people had signed a petition to remain on air.
Mike Zusman who has done an excellent job hosting the program since 1998 will continue on with the show.
One of Lawn Bowls biggest fans and a man who has done much to promote the sport Colin Minson has persevered to get his great sporting programs back on air and now he can do this on 91.3 FM.
Colin has already interviewed Mike twice on the radio bringing news and an updates of what is happening on the bowls scene
We will try to get times and dates as to to let our visitors know when Mike will be on air during the off season
