Master Singles 2008

December 8, 2008-------------------------------------Daniel Trewhella a great Champion
Daniel Trewhella
Sherro got to the final a little late however just in time enough to see a good game.

Congratulations to a terrific singles player, certainly one of the best in W.A. this is the 4th time Daniel Trewhella has captured the Sorrento Masters singles title and it won't be the last

Daniel Trewhella made his way to the final defeating Neale Griffin this morning in a score that was a surprise because the word we got on yesterday games about Neale he was brilliant.

But that is bowls, and well done to Neale who is held in high regard by the bowling community and to come this far might be an indication that a major singles title is not far away.

Daniel Brown came thru a hard draw and beat some extremely good players to make it thru to the final. His game against Brian Axford was a ripper and we must say well done to Brian who also had about as hard a draw as you would find, he is another who is now recognized as one of the better singles players in W.A and maybe a title awaits him in the near future

The game this afternoon promised plenty but for a while looked like it would be a fizzer when Daniel Trewhella shot out to a 9/2 lead and was well on top. Daniel drew even further away to lead 13/3.

This lead proved to be the difference in the game even tho Daniel Brown got back into the game and at one stage was down 15/20 giving himself some hope. He kept plugging away to be 18/22 but that was the end of the show because DT went on to win 25/20

This is one of quite a few ends that DB put DT under the pump. The brown bowls are DB'S This end resulted in one down for DT after driving the two bowls together off the green This end was going down windwhere both player were exceptionally good

The most noticeable aspect of the game that I saw was going into the wind was both players were having problems with the heads very ordinary but DT handled it better and generally won those ends

Going down wind DB was at his best and often had the closer bowls forcing DT to use his repertoire of shots which he used to good effect

Over all a good standard game of bowls to watch made more interesting by the come back by Daniel Brown who is pictured below

Many thanks to Ian Wittber for his help in getting these results to the site and also for his mighty efforts to keep this event going. Well done Ian, the game needs more like you mate

Again we have some upsets and it just shows that bowlers who enters the Sorrento Masters can play a bit .
In the morning game Neil Payne was leading J. Collishaw from the Sorrento Bowling club 19/9 and appeared to be heading toward a certain victory, however it was a victory that never came for Neil Payne because J. Collishaw got up won 25/21 and that is some sort of win from that position in the game

Another game of interest was the clash between John Wardrop and Daniel Trewhella, Daniel was leading 22/10 with only 3 to get but he had to wait for quite a while to get them because John came from what one would think is a hopeless position particularly against Daniel Trewhella, John lost 21/25.

Another big win was that of Neale Griffin 25/4 against the Jones Boy, Neale clearly has the wood over the Jones Boy, they have met in singles twice previously with Neale coming up trumps on both occasions, today's win make it three for Neale and gives him a strong chance to go on with it from here

Brian Axford has done al the hard work to get where he is after his wins against Jamie O`Keefe and Stein Davies. In the game against Stein Davies Brian was 9/15 down and went on to win his way into the semi-final

Daniel Brown has done well to ease Thomas Mitchell out of contention then follow up with a huge win against Trystan Smallacombe. In the game against Trystan Daniel led 15/3 and that proved to be a decisive lead in the game because Trystan came back hard but not hard enough to see Daniel move into the semi-final
