ROUND THREE
November 16, 2009
Players must believe me to be the worst judge ever – none from 5 was the result of this weeks tips. That makes me 4 from 15 for the season thus far – an absolutely #*~t house result in anyone’s language.
I guess these results go to show there is not much between most of the clubs and it will come down to a clubs ability to perform on the day. This must be good for the competition and good for bowls – on with the review.
Hilton Park 88 (6.5) def Melville 66 (1.5)
The “Dream Team” delivered the goods and kept the points at home. Lance Strahan’s rink led the charge winning 28/9 over Glen Beard’s boys – a solid win in anyone’s terms. That winning margin was to prove too much for the visitors to chase down.
Dan Slade went down by 3 shots to Nifty Brierley – Piggott got the better of Steve Hughes by 6 whilst Wood and Randall played out a draw.
Touted as the game of the day – it at least delivered on three rinks – Hilton now sit atop the ladder with 16 points and Melville are just half a point below in second spot.
Next week the double header, Hilton travel to Thornlie and host Safety Bay on Sunday.
Melville is at home to Warnbro and travel to Vic Park/Carlisle on Sunday.
Rockingham 88 (7) def Thornlie 65 (1)
Well done Rockingham, the first win for the year. Ever green Norm Pascoe set the tone for the home team getting over Bruce Deters 29/11.
Costello’s rink was too good for Ken Triner winning 27/13 whilst Park triumphed 20/12 over Munro’s lads.
The only highlight for the Thornlie reel came courtesy of Greg Deters recording a solid 29/12 win over John Lethlean.
You can never underestimate that home ground advantage – well done Rockingham.
Next week Rockingham plays their neighbours Safety Bay and on Sunday hosts Gosnells. Thornlie Have a visit from Hilton Park and travel to Warnbro on Sunday.
Warnbro 83 (6) def Vic Park/Carlisle 82 (2)
One of the closer games on Saturday and our Warnbro man writes as follows;
What a nail biting finish in our game against Victoria Park/Carlisle! We went into the very last end on Lindsay Strange’s rink holding a winning two shots on aggregate and a one shot loss on that end saw us win the aggregate 83-82 and pick up a very valuable 6 points.
Lindsay’s rink of Willie Tan, Charlie Stockton and Garry Wilkes won 26-23 over Kel Pearce’s rink to keep its unbeaten record.
But it was Kevin Bancroft’s rink of Russell Bates, Tony DeBrouwer and Ian Donaldson that set up the victory in having a solid win over Brian Barnfield’s rink 24-12.
Chalky White’s rink of Bert Day, David Phillips and Phil Higson went down 17-25 to Tom Reid’s side, while Bill Baker’s rink of Steve Venables, George Jackson and Dennis Pattullo (Lead) went down by a similar margin to Murray Simms’ rink 16-22.
It was a good win against one of the more fancied teams in the colour. This win, coupled with the win against Hilton Park, has shown that we will be competitive in our first ever season in Division One Blue South.
Next week Warnbro travel to Melville and hosts Thornlie on Sunday. Vic Park/Carlisle travel to Leeming and Sunday hosts Melville.
South Perth 85 (6.5) def Safety Bay 70 (1.5)
Another drought broken by the home side with a well deserved win, apparently.
Larry Bandy’s rink of Kerr, Hagen and Wooldridge set the tone for the Millers winning 29/14 over Ray Beard. Petchell’s rink recorded their maiden win 20/15 the better over Kevin Howieson’s rink. Max Petrich was South Perth’s other winner by 5 shots over Mat Massari.
Alan Holmes and Rees played out a draw.
Well The Millers posted their first win – perhaps the first of many, who knows! certainly not Andy!!
Next week South Perth travel to Gosnells and host Leeming on Sunday whilst Safety Bay play Rockingham and drive to Hilton Park on Sunday.
Leeming 78 (7) def Gosnells 75 (1)
Well done Leeming – it appeared that you wanted a win and played with enough desperation to achieve just that.
Anderson led for most of the day and ran out comfortable winners over Jason Bryan’s rink 21/15. Dave Clayton despite giving away an early lead fought the game out well in recording a 20/17 win over McKenzie.
Hart and Roper had a ding dong battle all day and one bad end for the Gossies boys toward the end of the game being the difference, saw them losing to Leeming in a close 22/21 result.
Chris Jones stepped in to fill the hole left by Hugh McKay and with Milan Jokic playing his first game produced the only highlight for the Gossies reel running out 21/15 winners.
New Gosnells Kookaburra recruit Chris Jones, skippered his first game for the Gosnells for a win
---------------------
Leeming for their troubles occupy third spot on the ladder and must be very happy with their years work to date.
Next week Leeming host Vic Park/Carlisle and travel to South Perth on Sunday whilst Gosnells are home to South Perth and drive to Rockingham on Sunday.
Summary
All the home teams won on the weekend and I failed to pick a winner.
Next weeks round’s of fixtures should put some ground between the top four and the bottom four and at this stage I’m going to have a real good look at “who will and who can’t” win.
I will get back to you all through the week with my predictions and I bet you just can’t wait for that.
In the mean time have a good week and practice hard – do something nice for your wife – as they generally have to listen to your woes when you get home.
Tarah and good bowling
