REPORT ON ‘ONE BLUE SOUTH PREVIEW -
2000 /10

TEN WEEKS TO GO
Andy’s back – good god you might say – why?

It is the 23rd August and the first pennant fixture is just TEN weeks away – I just can’t wait, bring it on, I’m over slow wet greens, miserable weather, cold evenings, etc. etc .etc.

The draft Pennant draw is out to clubs for comment and a copy fell into my lap and guess what I have a comment to make, gee you might say, “that’s unusual”.

Hollywood-Subiaco in south and Vic Park-Carlisle and South Perth in north. Am I missing something here or is this just an honest oversight?

Switch Hollywood and Vic Park and all should be well.

Looking at the ten clubs in south suggests that an interesting year lies ahead. Everybody’s basic plan would be to finish in sixth spot or higher. Having said that four clubs will fill the relegation zone – who will they be?

Leeming, Melville and Hilton Park, all fell from White last season and I’m certain they will be looking to get back there this year, are they capable?

Thornlie romped into Blue, going through last year without a loss in second division, what a great performance; they will give a little cheek throughout this coming season.

Safety Bay with two blues, probably will end the year with more blues, Ha Ha – I note Melville are searching for a coach, mmmmm. Hilton Park may be searching for a player or two, Gosnells are definitely looking for a better start to the year this season.

As we are still expecting a fair amount of rain – one may say there is still a lot of water to flow under the bridge prior to any bowls being played in earnest.

The next seven or eight weeks become very important to that group of fine men who men who have inherited the task of selection. What a thankless task selection can be. If you get it right – it was what was expected. If you get it wrong – you’re a bloody fool. Very hard to win as a selector. Still you must appreciate that all selectors do the absolute best they can and they need your support and sensible comment. If you are selecting this year Andy wishes you well as you are embarking on a fairly thankless journey.

Well that gets this season off to a start of sorts.

Watch this space for more news and views as the 2009/10 season creeps inevitably closer.

I can’t wait – bring it on.

Tarah and keep up the practice
