The State Triples final was played today between Trystan Smallacombe (sk) Neil Payne Mitch Biglin a composite side and Matt Elull (sk) Frank Carbone and Merv Hughes from the mighty Sth Perth Millers.

--------------- L/R: Neil Payne, Mitch Biglin, Trystan Smallacombe
------------Neil Payne, Miych Biglin, Trystan Smallacombe
-------------------------------WINNERS 2008/9:
Trystan Smallacombe's rink appeared to have had a harder road to the final scorewise in their games.
Their hardest game was against Scotty Edmonds and his rink. What I saw of the game it was brilliant bowls by all players and such a high standard game. The scores were tied on the last end so an extra end saw Trystan win the game with his bowl the winning counter. A great game with plenty of tension and brilliant bowls.

Matt Elull had to beat some tough skippers on his way to the final, Marko Krajancic, Jim McKenzie and last years winner Pieter Harris, the scorelines were convincing with Jim McKenzie getting the closest.

-------------------------------- -RUNNER UP 2009
In the main game Both leaders were pretty evenly matched and hard to say who won the important up front duel but both Mitch Biglin and Merv Hughes played many fine ends. It was evenly poised for the first 8 ends but by the 12th end we saw a break develope with Trystan leading 13/7 . Up to this stage both skips were outstanding and has a lot to say and do as to which side would win the end.
The score started to get away from Matt Ellul when Neil Payne started to win his position and Matt could not alter the position. However we have to say apart from a few short bowls from Frank Carbone, Frank played some telling bowls for his side to help keep them in the game.
The score at 8/17 down was the signal to get busy or get beaten for Matt and his boys, they picked up a huge 5 and a good 3 to be back in the game and a big chance. Going into the last end the score was 19/17 Trystan's way but Mitch Biglin who had a great game leading got one very close and Merv got one as close or closer.
Matt tried to alter it and went down 2 to lost the game.
A very good game played in windy conditions and all players made this a great contest.
