Congratulations to Queensland on their magnificent win taking out the Ally Shield, A thoughourly well deserved win to them. They played so well in the rain and also when the weather cleared up. The side is full of super stars who gave their all toward the Qld cause and came up trumps. I consider myself extremely lucky to see players of this ability play the game and play it with the passion they displayed to take out the Ally Shield.
Second place getters were Victoria and again Sherro is full of praise for this side, in fact if I was not a W.A fan Victoria is the side I would follow anywhere because of the atmosphere, passion and the will to win they create that keeps all spectators glued to their seats,
Jon Sharp won the Eddy/Wishart medal to be the best player for W.A .
I was not able to see all of the games that Jon played but the one I did see was against Tasmania, the game he produced was a 10/10 game, those who were there to him in this game were full of praise for his game.
The other game that Sherro was able to see a fair bit of was the game against Victoria and as it turned out it was Jon Sharps rink that I saw most of.
He was always there for his side in the many troubled moments they had to endure to secure victory. Jon Sharp is a fine leader of men and a wonderful player for W.A.
-----------Jon Sharp played magnificently throughout the series
---------
Rusell Hughes was another that we had a first hand look at in his game against Shane Garvey. Russell was as good as he could be and we know when he that occurs he will play a 10/10 game. Pressure, pressure and more pressure ws the order of the day for Russell and what a game he played to help get his side across the line in a high standsrd game. I have no doubt what so ever that Russell was the best player in this game.
W.A can hold their head high even tho they finished 5th, the important thing to remember is they lost to the eventual winner Qld by 4 shots on a rain sodden track, they beat Victoria by 2 shots in a gripping contest and a last man standing affair where all players had to be alert and in control.
Today W.A lost to the N.S.W team by 4 shots in a game that was decided by the second last bowl of the day, the game was a classic but we must acknowledge the fine effort by N.S.W who were behind for most of the match and won the game on the second last bowl of the 84th end
These teams mentioned above represent the cream of Australian lawn bowls, I myself feel proud of the W.A side to to be so competitive, the scoreline of these games tells us much, so much in fact that W.A is right along side of these States where only a small margin is the difference from being the best in Australia. Selectors take a bow, you deserve it for selecting an ultra competitive side who gave their all in this series.
How were the Tasmanians finishing up with the most rink wins (20) and beating N.S.W which really ended their hope of winning the Ally Shield.
