STATE PAIRS 2011
Sherro went to Yokine to have a bit of a watch to see how section 19 -24 were faring over the day

Travis Vallance and Young Cameron Ker came thru a tough section (20) to advance to the the first round They won all their games which included surving a thriller against former Sth Perth Team mate Tyrone Alberti who is pictured with B. Bell

Lance Strahan and Matt Mitchell also won their section (19) with two wins and a draw. They defeated Stuart Bainbiridge and Gavin Faulkner in a winner take all contest in the last round of the day 23-19.

Joe Bajic and son Ivan won their way thru with two wins and a draw in section (21) which included Farley Anderson the current DV Master pairs Champion

Alan Daddow formerly an Osborne Pk player and partner R. Morley from the Warwick Club won their way thru section (22) against quality opposition which included Kevin Robartson and D. Hudson from Geralton

Wayne Neilson and Reg Humphryson won their way thru the section (23) when they defeated State Triples Champ Brad Ball in a final round shootout by the big margin of 21- 7 to progress to the next round. With plenty hanging on the result it was Wayne and Neil who shot out of the blocks with a six on the first end. For Brad and his Dad Norm losing a six so early is always recoverable so early in the game. It was not to be as the score indicates

Steve O`Neil and Kevin Pickering won their way thru in section (19) when they took care of business winning their last game against the Cambridge Duo of Neil Bolton and Ernie Taylor formerly of Yokine

How in the heck could anyone confidently select the team to go the furtherest in the State Pairs in the Yokine section, an impossible task when we look at the strength of the combinations entered.
Lance Strahan/ Matt Mitchell have been under notice, Lance has been a past runner up. Wayne Neilson/RegHumphryson have both been involved at the highend of major events, Reg is a past winner.
Keith Robartson/Sean Heasman are two well known Country players, Steve O`Neil/Kevin Pickering should be very hard to overcome, not forgetting that Kevin is a Country week singles winner
Neale Griffin/Mitch Biglin could be the combo that does best if they can play at their best

But I must stick my neck out, Steve O`Neil/Kevin Pickering

Looking to see who will be the last team standing from the Morley section which has a bevy of good combo's. The combination that stands out here is that of Tony Krajancic, a prolific winner of many major events. his partner Henry Slawinski in no slouch either when it come to winning major titles in the Country.
Combinations that look good and could challenge are Chris Lander/Prickles Thorn, they are very experienced while Erron Martin/Richard D`Sousa could be troublesome.
Lewis Grigg/Chris Bowler are a young combo and it will be interesting to how the go in the hurley burly of State Pairs.
Importantly we are not under rating any of the other combination, Pairs is a game that is very hard to predict who the winners will be

The title holders look good to go on with the job of defending their title and if they produce the Standard they played last year then there is no reason they will not be in the mix to play in the final

The section is loaded with talent, good to see Jeff Hall and Cameron Girvan back into the fray. Jim McKenzie, the inaugeral winner of the Senior State Pairs being involved again and Scarborough Seagull Mike Murray having a dip
Overall it is going to be an interesting at Dalkeith

Who to select here is a most difficult task. David Rankin and Peter Ker are a good combo, Peter Ker was the winner of the 2008/9 State Pairs, and if memory serves me correctly Peter Ker was getting a good going over from Kyle McIlroy, he lifted his game to new heights late in the game to play a major part in the winning of that Pairs title win.

Neil Payne is almost a legend with several outstanding wins in major events over the years and is currently the Doubleview Master Pairs Champ and has a solid partner in Billy Brandsma

Eddy Dodd is a Country Champion and very highly regarded, will team up with Lee Farrel, they will be a very competive combo. Lee Farrel was very unlucky in the State pairs a couple of year back losing on the last end in a 1/4 final

Brian Calthorpe/ Rod Quinn are above average country bowlers last played in a major event when they were runner up in the State Fours many year back, 2004/5 could prove to be difficult to beat

As we have previously stated, the best section in the State Pairs. Anthony Provost/Rooster Wishart have played in the last two finals and were well beaten in last years final. It could be their year this year, however 4th time lucky is a new saying but has never proved to be correct on any occasions in the past.
The dynamic duo play in section 27 and have a tough competitor in recent inductee to the Australian Hall of fame Steve Srhoy and his partner Joe Spadaro.
Steve Srhoy last won the State Pairs in 2006 in a never to be forgotten game where he almost single handedly won that Final. If the Slammer can reproduce that form......
.
Patterson/Opie would have good reason to be confident tho what a tough section they are faced with against the likes of Neville Stevens/ Len Masga, Wayne Barker/ Travis Ingram and Sam Perica/Alan Erceg who are all capable of winning the section.

Matt Ellul/Frank Carbone you would think would be almost unbeatable with their well rounded game, but how could you confidently predict they could roll past winners in 2010, the two Daniels/ Trewhella and Brown
Nick/Greg Reagan were runners up in 2009 should win their section and if they fire who knows what might happen from there

Butlers two, Rhett and Paul look awesome but to win the section they have to overcome Cody
Packer/Paul Hunter who were put out of the last two State Pairs by the winner and the runner up, on both occasions it was in the last 8

Mark Pasalich is a previous winner of this event some years back will play with Tony Dragicevich cannot be under rated, if he can produce his best he will be difficult to beat.
Father son combo Jon and Ashley Sharp are in a tough section also, Jon was runner up in 2008 can win their section but then face AP if they win

Scott Edmonds/Shane Knott have the firepower to win the State Pairs, Scott Edmonds won the event in 2010. They could eventually run into AP/RW, if that does occur, the result will determine their future in the event.
Andrew Tennant/ Ted Alden are an interesting combination, Andrew Tennant has been very competitive and can go with the big boys while Ted Alden is a seasoned player who has always been hard to roll
Section 32 is much too hard to predict but Kevin Beaver and Carl Thompson look good in an even section

The team to go furtherest in the event, Scott Edmonds/Shane Knott

Osborne Park is the venue most players would want to play at, Richard Cox has the best greens in WA and once again players will benefit from his expertise to continually provide an almost perfect playing surface.

John Goddard/Gary Caffell were winners of this event in 2005 and runner up in 2006 have teamed up again and are the comination to look out for, They have been a bit quite since their 2009 win in the State Fours but we know how good these two players are and cannot be left out of calculations

However the luck of the draw could be against them because Clive Adams/Tystan Smallacombe,(Trystan was a winner in 20050 ,await them should they win their section followed by Tom Mitchell/Mark Simpson (who is the current Country week Pairs Champ) have plenty of runs on the board. If all all goes according to the script there will be some brilliant games played.

Ross Bresland/Dave Mortley made it to the semi-final last year losing to the eventual winner Wings Evans. Rosco was runner up in 2005 has a good draw if there is such a thing and could almost put in a repeat performance

Section 34 is another interesting section with Country players Ian Cartledge/D. Rogers who will meet Steve Wither/ Rod Graff. Ian Cartledge came under notice with several good performances playing skip in State events and in particular the State Triples when ruuner up to Rooster Wishart in 2010

Section 34 is another to catch the eye with Tom Mitchell/Mark Simpson who will play Gingin players Steve Beckwith/ John Fewster. Mark Simpson won the Country Week Pairs with Steve Beckwith earlier this year.

The team to go furtherest in the event, Thomas Mitchell/Mark Simpson

DI GIUSEPPE, F; FLEAY, C Osborne Park
ROBERTSON, G; TBA Composite.

Fred DiGuiseppe/Colin Fleay look to be the team that will go thur but you can never discount the big fish or Whale as some refer to Keith Strahan.
Colin Fleay is a previous winner of the State Pairs some years ago and is still playing a handy game while Fred DiGuiseppe is doing a fine job in a skippering role for Osborne Pk

Section 47
EINFELD, A; GRAHAM, A Mt Lawley
LANDER, C; THORN, L Composite
MANN, T; JONES, T Dowerin
TILLER, R; BIGG, M Mosman Park

Chris Lander/Prickles Thorn is a pretty handy pairing while Robbie Tiller/Martin Bigg is just as handy. deciding the winner is clearly more of a guess than a confident prediction.
It is some years since we have seen Prickles Thorn figure in the business end of State events tho he was in the side that made it to the last 8 of the State Four in 2010. He has done well in State Senior events.
Martin Bigg has yet to show up in major events but Robbie Tiller was close to best player in the State Fours final held recently
All in all it will be a great clash when these two sides meet
