This is a great story when we have one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, Dennis Katunarich playing in the State Triples with two unheralded players, Ken Screech and Russell Tyrell, and making it thru to play in the final.
I am sure the boys will always remember this great game and one they nearly won. Of course it is a tough task to beat such accompilished players such as Pieter and Clive, and not forgetting that Phil Potts is a recognised player.

The State Triples final was a ripper of a game with the scoreline showing little between the teams. Dennis Katunarich and his team got out to an early lead 5/1 and then were pegged back one shot an end By Pieter Harris making them all square on the 9th end. All players were contributing to the cause. The battle of the middle men, Clive Adams and Ken Screech was a hilite with both breaking even at this stage of the match. Dennis Kat played a great saving shot during this period, 3 down he converted to one up.
Phil Potts was just ahead of Russell Tyrrell and Pieter Harris was playing a very steady game.
From this point till the 15th end Dennis Katunarich really got going and it was reminiscent of him at his best where it seemed nothing was impossible for him to do. He certainly helped his team out of a few sticky situations with many of his bowls within inches of the jack or drawing the shot cold.. Clive Adams was having a great game also while Phil Potts got well on top in the battle between the leaders by end 15. Pieter Harris was playing a very steady game
From here on Pieter's side seemed to have that edge and placed the Kat under enormous pressure to which he responded to keep his side in the game.
A cruel blow for The Kat's side on end 18, they were holding three good shots and if they could keep them victory was possible. Pieter Harris played a running shot that was skinny and going out of the head, his bowl skidded of a 3 foot short front bowl and landed on the jack.
Even up till the last end it was anyones game where victory was possible with the score 15-13 in favour of Pieter Harris's team.
Congratulations to Pieter, Clive and Phil Potts who has won his first major title and to Dennis Kat, Ken Screech and Russell Tyrrell for their mighty effort to make the final and for the great game
Ken Screech played a pretty good game, Russell Tyrrell tried very hard and did have several good ends and played his part in the game. Phil Potts would have been very happy with his effort.

3. Dennis Katunarich
2. Clive Adams

THE SEMI FINALS

DENNIS KATUNARICH---22 --bt DAVID RANKIN-- 8

Dennis Katunarich and his side had a brilliant game in the first semi with his front two players Russell Tyrrell and Ken Screech in outstanding form and made it impossible for both Peter Ker and James Jaworski to get into the game and what a thrill for the players to make the final and for Dennis to be leading the way for them

The first semi-final was a disappointing game for David Rankin and his side after yesterday's outstanding game against Trystan Smallacombe. Still we can say well done to the boys on their great achievement to get so far into the tournament. Peter Ker has been Playing for only three years and has a lot of potential. James Jaworski will benefit from this experience and we will see more of him in the future. David Rankin is a player of class and bigger things await him in the future one would think

SEMI-FINAL TWO

PIETER HARRIS ---21 ---def MIKE VITALE --16

This was an interesting game because of the brilliant effort from the Nth Beach trio of Mike Vitale, Jihn Coles and Garyy Flegg to make the semi-finals and the question was could they take out another big scalp and play in the final. Well it was not to be but full credit for game they presented in difficult conditions and their overall effort in the event
Pieter Harris led 7/0 and looked likely winners early in the game but Mike and his boys had other ideas and picked up their rating to level the scores at 13-13. From there on it was Pieter Harris's side that put the pressure with a couple of big scores on to seal the game.
Must say that Garyy Flegg is a leader of quality and really pushed Phil Potts all the way in this game. It was a high standard contest between the two leaders.
