S.SRHOY defeat N.GRIFFIN 22-21

--------------L/R:
Mike Zusman, Steve Srhoy, John Ravilich
What
a game and what a finish. Steve Srhoy Mike Zusman and John Ravilich defeated
a tenacious and determined Kalamunda rink, that of Neale Griffin, Brett Tie
and Scott Walker on a good green and in very windy conditions. Skill level
had to up and it was in this game
Steve Srhoy is the current State Pairs Title holder, now has added the State
Triples to his trophy cabinet among the many he already has collected. The
seemingly ageless Steve Srhoy played as well as he ever has and is one of
the very best all round bowlers playing the game today. The wind worries
him little and his skill in all areas of the game is amazing. He uses Drakes
Pride bowls and generally takes more grass than most players
This
is the first State title of any description for Mike Zusman, which is a surprise
considering what he has acheived in bowls. He showed that he is one of the
best players in the game today and he responds to the pressure extremely
well, today he led the charge when things got really tough and played some
magnificent bowls to rescue the situation
John Ravilich played a very solid game and was only just shaded in this
game, there wasn't a lot in the leading duel. John is a great player and
continues to show up in the big games
Neale Griffin was outstanding and is a very talented player, he has all
the shots and was terrific today. Probably would have won the game against
any other opponent. Stands up to the pressure extremely well
Scott Walker has a great game and shaded John Ravilich on the day, the more
pressure there was toward the end of the game the more he responded. State
Selector Geoff Ellis was in attendance and I am sure he would have taken
some notes
Brett Tie took a while to settle down in the difficult conditions and was
probably a little nervous. Once he settled down he was able to produce some
very telling bowls for his team and had a good second half.

--------------------L/R:
Brett Tie, Neale Griffin, Scott Walker
The game started out with The Cockburn rink scooting away to 9/0 and looking
like they would win by 100. The Kalamunda Boys settled 9/1, 9/3, 9/4, then
after a big bowl from Neale Griffin trailing the jack to make 5 and square
the ledger at 9/9
To this point the leaders were having a good battle but Scott Walker lifted
a notch and started to get on top at this stage of the game. Brett Tie was
out of touch in the very windy conditions and the bowls he was using would
not bend. Mike Zusman was on top in this position.
From the 12th end on Brett Tie finally settled and started to have an impact
on the game while Scott kept on with his good leading, so much so that Steve
played a good tactic by keeping the mat when he won an end, which he rarely
did over the past two games and giving John Ravilich a feel of the jack and
it worked with immediate effect.
The score for C/burn went like this 10/9--10/10--10/12-- 11/12, 15/12--15--16,
15/18--15/19, all Kalamunda players were contributing and putting huge pressure
on C/burn
The 18th end was crucial for Cockburn because Kalamunda had the shot with
a bowl right on the jack, Mike Zusman changing the head --17/19,
Three ends to go and Kalamunda picked up another 2--17/21
Cockburn lose the next end getting out of jail dropping only a two instead
of a four-- 17/21
The last two ends saw Mike and Steve respond to the situation with brilliant
bowls to tie the score 21/21
The extra end was killed and on the replay Scott Walker put his second bowl
right on the jack, Mike Zusman got it off Neale Griffin drew 6 inches behind
the jack, Steve Srhoy rested that bowl to give Cockburn the shot Neale could
not repeat his first bowl and game over.
SEMI-FINALS
Semi-Final
S.Srhoy (Cockburn) b S.Hunter(Eaton) 18-14,
The boys from Eaton, Stan Hunter, Ian Cartledge and Gordon Twist had a red
hot go in the game against Steve Srhoy and were 9/9 at the halfway mark.
All players were going well. At this stage Steve Srhoy had to use his deadly
drive to convert the heads to advantage and the Eaton Boys eventually went
down by 4 shots.
Speaking to the Eaton fellahs after the game they said everything went to
plan except for the last game. The difference in the game was Steve and
though they had lost they
were very happy to reach the semi's and come up against top line players.
For Ian Cartledge it was the first time ever that he had played in a
State event and I am sure after such a good showing he will be back for more.
It is no wonder they did so well The boys won their pennant finals this year.

SEMI FINAL 2
N.Griffin(Kalamunda) b D.Patterson(Bassendean) 21-8
This game unearthed a young star of the future
in Danny Patterson who is just 16 years of age. He impressed everyone with
his demeanor and his great play. Neale Griffin was very impressed with the
young fellah and gave him a big wrap on his general play and the way he encouraged
his team mates on throughout the game.
His team mates Phil Hutchinson
and Wayne Smythe, were also over the moon for Danny with his performance.
It was a great effort for the Bassendean boys to have reached the semi-finals
of the State triples and well done boys.
