State Singles day three
Down to the semi-finals and a very good group of players left to fight it out for the title.
The big talking point of the day was the win of Steve Withers against his State Fours winning skipper Dave Rankin.
The match was quite firmly in the grasp of David Rankin when he led 18-8. Most would say game over at that stage of the contest, but not Steve Withers who set about cutting down the deficit, he picked up 12 shots over the next 8 ends to run out the winner 21-19. That is some sort of comeback and to have come from that position is almost unbelievable against a player of David Rankins ability
It has been a big last three games for Steve Withers where he has defeated Daniel Trewhella, Thomas Mitchell and now Dave Rankin, all three are State squad members.
Neville Stevens defeated two time winner of the State Singles John Goddard 21-16 to progress into the semi-final where he will meet Steve Withers
Anthony Provost made light work of Peter Nicholls defeating him 21 - 5 and is in with a big chance to secure his 4th State Singles win.
Perth Tatts player Russell Bates
had a good tussle with Country Champion Eddy Dodd winning 21-17 to record his best ever placed position so far in the State Singles and it is not over just yet if he can defeat Anthony Provost in his semi-final. It will be a tough proposition for Russell but anything is possible
