State Singles day two

Day two saw plenty of action and many results that weren't expected.

Three time winner of the State Singles Anthony Provost is in line to win his 4th title as is John Goddard who is in line to win his 3rd title having won the Blue Ribbon event twice.

Eddy Dodd is a Country Week Singles champion, he has been this far previously but was defeated by James Jaworski in 2009

Steve Withers, Dave Rankin, Peter Nicholls and Neville Stevens have achieved their highest placing in the event that I can remember.

The biggest result of the day was the surprise defeat of last years champ Clive Adams by Shane Knott who won 21-4 and went on to win his next game then fell to Bassendean's Peter Nicholls for a place in the last 8

Steve Withers bucked the odds when he defeated Daniel Trewhella 21-18 then disposed of Thomas Mitchell 21-19 to make the last 8. This was a great effort from Steve Withers to have bowled out two of the top singles player in W.A His win has set up a showdown with his skipper in the winning State Fours team Dave Rankin.

Dave Rankin had a comfortable win in the first game against Nth Beach player John Coles and an easier win in the second game defeating State Pairs runner up Rob Lawrence 21-7

Stirling's Neville Stevens defeated Stuart Bainbridge 21-14 then took on another very good singles player in Dennis Bandy to make it to the last 8 and set up a showdown with John Goddard for a semi final spot. This to my knowledge is Neville Stevens best placing in the State Singles.

John Goddard probably had an easier draw than most but taking nothing away from his opposition in any way when he defeated J. Tadman from York then Mark Slomp from Belmont City who put a good fight going down 21-14

Perth Tatts player Russell Bates survived a thriller against country player Warren Holt winning that game 21-20. He then accounted for Sth Perth's Ryan Havercroft in another terrific game 21-18. This is the best Ryan Havercroft has done in the State Singles to make the last 32. The last game of the day was against Joe Krstic an underrated player who had done well to beat Brad Ball who in turn had earlier defeated Gary Caffell. Russell duly won that game and will meet up with the great country player Eddy Dodd.

Eddy Dodd had beaten some goodies to play today firstly getting Ross Bresland out of the way seemingly easily 21-11, then he must have taken a liking to Playing Sth Perth players when he rolled Nick Reagan in a very tight game 21-20 and carried on to defeat the 2010 runner up Luke Richardson 21 -14.

Peter Nicholls surprised the bowling world with his last 8 placing. Peter put the 79 year old veteran Dante Mariani out of the event 21-14. Dante had earlier defeated Kyle McIlroy 21-10. He then disposed of Vaughan Colley 21-11 and got hold of Shane Knott who had put Clive Adams out of the event . This is the best placing Peter Nicholls has achieved in the State Singles so far, he will play Anthony Provost in the next game

Three time winner Anthony Provost defeated Bassendean's D.Rowland fairly easily then had a huge game on his hands to beat Scarborough's Mike Murray with just a 3 shot margin 21-18. He followed that up with an easy win against Rob Foy 21-10 and will play Peter Nicholls for a semi final berth
