Well finally it is here, the start of pennants for 2008/9 and how proud we all can be knowing that this competition produced the National Premier League champions, well done Osborne Park.
To herald the start of the new season we have the Cambridge Knights playing the Doubleview PowerHouse in what is the game of the day. Plenty of top class players in both sides which will produce a great game
The South Perth Millers have a tough game first up against one of the favourites for the flag, the Victoria Park Reds who have beefed up somewhat with the recruitment of Anthony Provost and Stu Bainbridge
Dalkeith Silvertails are at last in the bigtime and have an easy game playing against Kalamunda in comparison to what they could have received to kick the season off. A confidence builder for the Silvertails if ever we saw one
A tough first up fixture for The Yokine Doggies who start their season at home and will be looking to get a good start against Cockburn who have had plenty of player losses from last years team.
The Osborne Pk Saints are starting out in this new season as the National Premier League Champions are up against the Wanneroo Express have lost four valuable members from last season's wonderful side that conquered all and became the best 16 club side in Australia for season 2007/8.
The Wanneroo Express have to get back on the rails and back to the magic of season 2006. Osborne Park present a big challenge to the Wanneroo Express who will now have this game played at Wanneroo after Osborne Park requested a change of venue
--------------------MATT ELULL

New skipper for Sth Perth Millers young Matt Elull is a quality player who has shown his class in the Aus Indoor Sets Play. Matt is going places and a big future awaits this young gent
CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS v D/VIEW POWERHOUSE
T.Smallacombe (sk) N. Lewis,W. Maher, B. Kiely
The Jones Boy (sk) T. Walsh, A. Heal, R. Bolton.
P. Harris (sk), C. Lander,G. Kane, H. Christensen
D. Opie (sk),B. Katunarich, M. McGann,C. McKenna
-------------------------versus
D. Trewhella (sk)R. Dempsey, J. Bausor, C. Slavich
John Slavich (sk) P. Buller, R. Barns, C.Tunstall
J. Jaworski (sk), L. Thorn, D. Slavich, P. Ker,
K. McIlroy (sk), A. Delaporte, G. Nelson, M. Mitchell
This is the game of the day and we see there have been plenty of changes to both sides. The PowerHouse have three new skippers and it is a long time that we have seen two of the most famous names in bowls today missing from this lineup
Dennis Katunarich who is recovering from surgery and Robbie Ball who is not available for selection and may have called it a day in the Premier League
Daniel Trewhella will add some grunt to this new look 16 and we see Ross Dempsey selected as a three, this will be an interesting back half combination, both are Champion singles players.
Cambridge have also changed their lineup which made the four last season have recruited Peiter Harris and David Opie. It goes without saying that Pieter Harris is right at the top as far as skippers go and we are aware of David Opie's skills but they have not been tested in the pressure cooker atmosphere of Premier League as far as skippering goes
The two other skippers Trystan Smallacombe and the Jones Boy who did so much for Cambridge last season will once again be called on to provide the firepower to ensure a top four finish and perhaps deliver a premiership flag
One strange decision for the Knights is the placement of Aj Heal who won the best player award at Cambridge last year.
He started of the season as a two then went to bolster a third's position and played with aplomb, so much so that he won the best player award for the club. Now he is back playing as a two.
Should be a ripper of a game but the Knights like last season will have too many aces in the pack for the PowerHouse

SOUTH PERTH MILLERS v VIC PARK REDS

R. Hughes (sk),S. Bainbridge, T. Valience, G. Quann
R. Butler (sk), S.Knott. W. Butler, G. Faulkner
A. Provost(sk), J. Mitchell, C. McNeil, D. Patterson
Can the Victoria Park Reds play on the carpet, They didn't play on the Sth Perth carpet last season due to the last game of last season being washed out.
They do have a better and stronger list than the Millers and would be favourites to win. However other strong sides have traveled over the Narrows Bridge and gone home with nothing much to show for an afternoons play.
The game will have plenty of interest with some of the best players in WA playing in this game
Rhett Butler Russell Hughes Anthony Provost who should provide the impetus to bring home the big end of the points
South Perth have a new look side and it looks good on paper and appears to be a stronger 16 than last season, they are sure to be fired up to take out this game and the previous season they showed the visitors how hard it was to win the games played at the home of the millers
Sth Perth players who will be required to play a huge role in this game are Nick Reagan, Matt Elull Ken Pride, Steve Lunn and Ross Bresland.
The front end of the Millers will ensure a good start. Merv Hughes had a great year last season and is a quality lead while Glen Pauling can play any position will also play an important role.
Depth of the Reds and backend strength will be a telling factor

M.Biglin(sk)F.Anderson,JohnWardrop,M. Douthie
This is a lucky break for Dalkeith to have drawn Kalamunda in their first game in the Premier League and to be able to play it at home is another bonus. There could be a few nerves to start with but I feel the Silvertails who have far more depth in their 16 and will be far too strong for the Kalamunda Tigers.
Dalkeith have not recruited anyone of note other than Luke Richardson and they will be hoping Luke can keep his mind on what he has to do for the club.
If he can he will be a huge plus for the side, in form he can go with the best of them.
Kalamunda have not released any information as to the makeup of their 16 so we cant comment on their prospects in this game
The Silvertails have a golden opportunity and will take it

YOKINE DOGGIES v COCKBURN ROOSTERS
R. Heaton,(sk) J. Carter, I. Cooper, J. McGrath
S. Edmonds (sk) S Sloan, R. DeSousa, I. Coghill
E. Dodd(sk) A. Davis, M. Lemos, J. Lorencs
J. O'Keefe (sk), R. Rewko, C. Hickman, W. Coffey

G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, J, Ravlich, M. Muslin
S.Srhoy(sk), J. Trewhella, S. Perica, M. Sokol.
D. Brown(sk), M. Zusman, M. Sear, M. Trewhella
G. Catterick (sk), K, Cousins, J. Galipo, P. Novak
This is another game that will carry plenty of interest with Yokine coming back into the bigtime playing at home up against Cockburn who have taken a hammering as far as losing valuable players.
We don't know how good the new recruits R. Rewko, Steve Sloan are that Yokine have aquired but obviously have impressed in the trial matches
We see Eddy Dodd from the Wonthella club will make his debut in the Premier League and what a great player Eddy is.
Scotty Edmonds, Jamie O`Keefe led rinks will have to improve on last seasons stat sheet if the Yokine Doggies are to have an impact on the Premeir League. Both are very capable players
The club has been well led by Rocket Heaton for the past two seasons and he can take a lot of satisfaction that on his watch the club regained a place in the Premier League
Cockburn have been hard hit with player losses and we are not properly aware of how good some of the recruits really are.
Gary Carberry led rinks lost all 6 games he was in charge of last season. Steve 'The Slammer" Srhoy had more losses than wins last season 8 wins 9 losses and that would almost be a first in his time in the Premeir League
Daniel Brown is the best performed skip in this seasons 16 and will be relied upon heavily to produce the goods again.
Catterick is an unknown quantity
Will the new recruts give the Roosters the spark that will get them across the line in this game ?
A big opportunity that the Doggies would not turn their nose up at and will get away to a great start

OSBORNE Pk SAINTS v WANNEROO EXPRESS
G. Caffell (sk), G. Evans,, G. Nicol, G. King
K. Pickering(sk)P. Pendergast,R.Couper,J. Coleman

C. Adams(sk), R. Humphryson, P. Potts, S. Donohue
R. Bates (sk), B. Axford, N. Costello, M. Hulbert
S. Davies (sk), Ted Alden, S. Alden, D. Griffin
G. Ellis (sk), P. Knight, D. Triffit, H. Ward
This game has been switched to be played at Wanneroo instead of Osborne Park.
Osborne Park with a new look side should carry to many guns for Wanneroo.
Ossy Park Saints have suffered major player losses but do appear to have done a good job replacing those who have left the club.
There are 4 new faces in this team, Paul Pendergast is virtually a new player after not playing last season because of injury
David Rankin will do a good job and is as good a player as James Jaworski in the skippering dept.
Dont Know how Kevin Pickering will go other than he has been doing the job in practise matches,
We could not expect him to replace Daniel Trewhella but if he can bring in 10 wins for the season Osborne Park will be happy with that, anything past that will be a bonus
Wanneroo have not made any major advances in player recruitment but are more than happy with the new players they have picked up. Three new faces playing their first Premier League match might help make a difference to the side which didnt set the world on fire last season.
The Express did play Yokine in a practise match and after having a commanding lead got beaten by 10 shots. Yes we know it was only a practise match so lets hope they have positions sorted out for the this game
We do expect Wanneroo to be very competitive in this game, they have a good backend and are sure to around the place but the Osborne Park Saints will not be Saints in this game I expect them to bring home the majority of the points in this game
