FINALS
A day of drama unfolded at Osborne Park when last years Premier League Champion side Osborne Park were dumped from the finals in straight sets. Firstly they were outgunned by a rampant Doubleview PowerHouse who were simply too strong in the second semi and were then given the old heave ho in the preliminary final after winning on three rinks against a boisterous and energetic Vic Park Reds who were able to win on one rink only.
The PowerHouse were cruising in their easy win and would be favourites for tomorrow's Grand Final While Victoria Park Reds are aware they lost on three rinks in the preliminary final and will be looking for that little bit extra tomorrow.
Osborne Park will be disappointed after having the season they have had, finishing on top of the table to then bomb out of the finals playing on their own grass,
The rink of Gary Caffell had a day they will never forget when they were 0/16 down in the first semi before they scored and 0/ 28 down in the preliminary final before they scored
and finished the day 19/ 65 down on combined aggregate.
This was the difference between the Saints defending their title tomorrow or not doing so.
These things do happen in bowls but not often in a final or in this case, finals.
It has happened in recent times when Brian Katunarich was beaten by some 25/30 shots playing for Cambridge
against Wanneroo's Reg Humphryson about 4 years ago. Wanneroo one on just one rink which got them into the Grand Final which they duly won
L/R: John Goddard, Dave Appleton and Ian Payne are tough customers and know how play hard ball came from 2-11 down to win 16- 15 against Rhett Butler

PRELIMINARY FINAL
Vic Park were fired up after their impressive demolition of the Sth Perth Millers in the first semi-final. Osborne Park Saints were desperate to avoid being knocked out of the finals and to let slip the opportunity to defend the Premiership they won last year.
The Reds were at their noisiest best for the game, they shouted encouragement for all bowls, good or bad,
it didn't matter. They had also shown their liking for Osborne Park grass and soon had the Saints under the pump.
Rhett Butler had shot out to a 11/2 lead over John Goddard's rink while Jeff Mitchell
was getting the job done against Gary Caffell's rink leading 14/0
For the Saints it was Kevin Pickering and his boys who led wishart's rink 13/8 on the 11th end and Dave Rankin led A. Provost 14/7 on the 10th end.
What was important for Gary Caffell's rink was to break the shackles that Jeff Mitchell's rink had over the side but it was not to be and the score went 0/28 down for Gary and his boy's before they finally scored on the 14th end.
In the meantime John Goddard's rink started to come back against Rhett Butler. Saints leader Dave "the big Apple" Appleton was playing a brilliant leaders game to be well on top of Gavin Faulkner with Bill Galloway playing at the standard he has set for the most part of the season, Ian Payne is a class 3rd and he was playing a ripper.
The fight back went 2/11, 5/12, 6/12, 7/12, 13/12/ 13/13, 15/13, 15/14, 16/14, 16/15.
John Goddard played some sensational bowls that were almost unbelievable to keep the comeback on track .
Of course there was another team playing and the back two players Rhett Butler and Thomas Mitchell were doing their damndest to stop this comeback and played many fine bowls but they could not stop John Goddard and his brilliant rink. This was a terrific game and just shows when bowls of this calibre are played how enjoyable it is to watch
How they went
Dave Appleton superb display
Gavin Faulkner some great bowls but lowered his colours to Dave
Bill Galloway won his position in the second half of the game while Shane Knott chipped in with some very handy pills
Ian Payne played a good thirds game and made life difficult for the Reds while Thomas Mitchell fought hard to stem the flow of John Goddard's rink, he was not able to but played a fine game for his side was
John Goddard was the master with some of the most outstanding bowls you could ever wish to see while Rhett Butler threw everything he could at John and played some pearlers in this game but it was John "Guts" Goddard who always provided the answer

SECOND SEMI-FINAL
Welcome Back to Robbie Ball who returned to play for the PowerHouse in round nine. He played a magnificent game in the white wash of Gary Caffell's rink today.
--
Robbie played a brilliant bowl here which narrowly missed getting the shot, we see him jump in anticipation of getting the shot with this bowl
DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 79 (7 ) def OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 53 (1)
This was a huge win for the PowerHouse to make it two in row after defeating the Osborne Park Saints last week and now this second semi- final at Osborne Park
Signs were ominous early in the game for the Osborne Park Saints when they got away slowly to be 12/20 down, then a mini fight back to make 24/27, from there on it was apparent the PowerHouse were on their game. The further the game went the more obvious it was the Saints were being slowly but surely put out of business.
John Goddard and Dennis Katunarich were having a battle royal with Guts and his boys holding the whip hand to lead 10/6 on the 10th end. They held on to lead 12/10 on the 15th end and were then run down and toppled to a 15/22 loss. A good win by the Kat and his rink to beat the Premier rink in W.A and sweet revenge for the loss to Guts and his rink last week.
John Slavich's rink continued their mastery over David Rankin's rink following on from last week's win against David.
John Slavich's rink shot out to a handy 7/1 lead early in the game and were caught up by David's rink to be 8/8 on the 11th end.
It was a tight hard fought game from here on with little in the game, John Slavich's rink shot away to lead by 4 and that was a big in the context of the game. They were caught up again and led 14/13 on the 19th end and it was anyone's game from here.
Kevin Pickering's rink were the only winners in this match and beat the number one rink at the PowerHouse after being down 4/8 on the 10th end came back extremely well to lead 10/8 on the 14th end and then to draw away to win 18/11 which was a very good win for the Saint's
Robbie Ball played a blinder today along with his pretty handy rink. They crushed the Gary Caffell led rink and led 17-1 after the 10th end. This was a monster loss and played a big part in making sure the PowerHouse were going to play at Carlisle tomorrow. There was no respite for Gary and his rink who were soundly defeated with mostly very good bowls and a couple of lucky ones.
Robert Ball was sensational and his team followed their skipper.

FIRST SEMI-FINAL
L/R: Stuart Bainbridge Scotty Walker, Joe
Cunningham and Glen Pauling

These four players have eyes on another rink early in the game today
VICTORIA PARK REDS 87 (7) def SOUTH PERTH MILLERS 60 (1)
As expected Victoria Park Reds won the first semi-final and really got hold of the Sth Perth Millers wining on 3 rinks to register a very healthy score line 87 - 60.
Big surprise was the rink of Matt Elull who were completely outclassed by a brilliant Jeff Mitchell led rink so much so it was not until the 11th end that Matt and his boys saw ink on their scorecard of 2- 18 down.
Perhaps another surprise was that of Ken Pride who called the shots today in place of Scotty Walker and did an outstanding job to lead Anthony Provost 17 - 10 on the 15th end. From there the Provost rink came home hard to claim victory 20 - 19.
Rhett Butler's rink had a hard battle with Ross Bresland in the early part of the game, from end
9 when the score was 10 - 5 in favour of Rhett Butler it was the beginning of the end with the score 21 - 12 to the Vic Park boys
Nick Reagan was the only rink to win with a good win against wishart's rink in a close game where the score was never much more than a couple of shots in it to win 16 - 13
