SCROLL DOWN FOR RINK SCORES
A fantastic round of fixtures with more upsets to throw the tipsters right off line
Yokine survive in the Premier League with a win, we dont have the exact scores but we do know they won.
It is back to One White for Kalamunda who have done well over the past two seasons to hang in there and be a part of the Premier League. Unfortunetly the time has finally come for them. However they could be back in one season
Wanneroo crash at the last hurdle in what must be the most frustrating season for them. Their home ground held no advantages for them much at all thru the season and this is what has eventually cost the dearly
Cockburn have upstaged Victoria Park by trouncing the Reds who will now have to play in a cut throat first semi final. It looked all to simple for the Reds who would have been expected to win this contest but Cockburn just turned the heat on and the Reds Buckled
Osborne Park had an easy win as expected against Cambridge who had nothing to play for in this game other than get it out of the way and start preparing for next season.

YOKINE DOGGIES 76 (7 ) def KALAMUNDA 76 (1)
PLAYED AT KALAMUNDA
SCORE COULD BE WRONG BUT YOKINE WON
It came right down to the wire to decide who would be demoted to One White for next season.
Congratulations to the Yokine Doggies who recovered after mid season turmoil on and off the green to win the battle to stave off demotion and stay in the Premier League.
About 6 weeks ago the club were having off field problems which were mentioned on SportFM 91.3. From that point in time the Doggies lifted on field performances beating sides who were in the four, Wanneroo, Sth Perth, and the daddy of them all beating the reigning Premiers
Osborne Park in the best pennant game I have seen this season.
The other highlight in the season for the Doggies was losing to Osborne Park at Osborne Park on the last bowl of the day in the frst round, they had the goods then and one can only wonder why the side fell off the pace from around that time
There have been rumours flying around that several players would be leaving at seasons end. Perhaps this run of success along with a new found fighting spirit might produce another rethink for those contemplating a move.
The Kalamunda Tigers were favoured to to hold in the Premier League and at one stage had a handy buffer over both Yokine and Dalkeith.
The Tigers have been very close to dropping out in each of the three seasons they have been in the Premier League just surving narrowly in each season till this one.
Well their lack of depth finally caught up with them when the were demoted after losing to Yokine at Kalamunda yesterday. Not only was their lack of playing power evident but they battled to win home games and from memory they won just 2/3 games. The greens at Kalamunda were not good so it was hard to have any homeground advantage. Kalamunda won most of their games away from home.
A highlight for the Club was their win against second placed Doubleview in the first round, that was played at Doubleview
It will be back to the drawing board for the Tigers but because of their large distance away from the hub of Lawn Bowls the club will always find it hard to attract top liners to play for them.
On a brighter note it is not doom and gloom as far as greens go, it has been mentioned in bowling circles the club will have two new quality carpets in place by the time the new season starts.

DALKEITH SILVERTAILS 82 (5.5 ) def WANNEROO EXPRESS 78 (2.5)
PLAYED AT WANNEROO
Wanneroo displayed yesterday that they do not deserve to be playing finals after Dalkeith Silvertails bought their season to an end at Wanneroo.
Wanneroo failed in the two most important games of the season, losing to fourth placed South Perth on Saturday, in which victory would have seen Wanneroo permanently swap places with the Millers, and then most surprisingly to the wooden spooner’s Dalkeith on Sunday, again where a victory would allow them to sneak past the Millers and into the final four.
This unexpected turn of events has seen South Perth finish in the Premier League finals for the first time since Ray Pride was a boy.
How could it go so wrong for a side with the homeground advantage and playing bottom side Dalkeith.
Clive Adams's rink won against Marko Krajancic, who has proved to be a difficult customer to beat on most saturday afternoons, and victory over marko would normally guarrentee an aggregate win for most clubs
It appears that the home ground advantage was in fact Wanneroo's Achilles heel because they lost 5 games at home. The first thing any side would be looking for is to win most of their home games, winning four games only has cost them dearly
Their highlights during the season were they beat all the sides that are playing in the finals, Osborne Park, Doubleview, Sth Perth and Victoria Park which indicates they are on the right path. Not only that, the club produced the State Singles winner Brian Axford and the State Pairs winner Bates.
The lowlights were losing to the bottom sides Yokine who have improved dramatically and Dalkeith
The skippers had an even spread of wins over the season, overall what was accomplished by the club hasn't provided the result they most wanted
Good things did happen for Wanneroo who made several changes during the season in an attempt to find the right combinations and chemistry.
It will be interesting to see what the off season brings to Wanneroo who need a couple of gun players
We have to give the Silvertails a huge thank you for presenting themselves and playing a big part in the makeup of the final four
and once again it shows we can never take anything for granted
Dalkeith won just four games for the year beating Cockburn twice, Yokine and Wanneroo. After a stellar season to win the promotion from One White it was thought the club who had lost just the one match in the home and away
games would be presentable and probably hold their place in their first season.
It became evident as the season progressed that Dalkeith were not up to the task and quickly fell away to be the first certainty of any side to be demoted.
The best thing for the Silvertails is toward the end of the season they did push sides and their last half of the season showed they were slowly coming to grips playing in the Premier League with some good rink performances.
Back to One White next season and the big question will be how many players will stay with the club. The answer to that will unfold in the off season

COCKBURN ROOSTERS 87 (7 ) def VICTORIA PARK 73 (1 )
PLAYED AT VICTORIA PARK
3rd placed Victoria Park are shock losers to 7th placed Cockburn Roosters. With all the world to play for to grab the second chance in the finals the Reds have crashed and now have to play Sth Perth in the first semi-final
John Trewhella skippered his first game for Cockburn and no doubt the Cockburn people would have been happy with what John has come up with in this win and who knows what might happen for John next season, perhaps a permanent skippers job. No easy task to roll the King of Swing at Vic Park
We have recieved word that Steve "The Slammer" Srhoy produced a sensational bowl on the last end of the game against Jeff Mitchell when 17/19 down to win 20/19.
Daniel Brown is a class act and this was on display again. It was this win that helped to finish off the Reds chances of playing in the second semi final.
The other news was that in the game between Gary Carberry and Anthony Provost it was AP who played a first class game to win 25/13.
Cockburn Roosters have had a strange season with plenty of ups and downs, unfortunetly there were more downs than up.
With player losses for Cockburn to contend with from last season it was thought the club would have a hard time and that has proved to be so
New players to come into the club were Grant Catterick, John Trewhella and Mat Trewhella along with Alf Jones and Kiran Cousens. Not a bad list but probably not going to be enough to get the Cockburn Roosters into the finals.
The season was full of inconsistency and after 5 games had been completed with the Rooster having their heads placed right on the chopping block.
Perhaps the body blow was deliverd by the Dalkeith Silvertails when they were surprise winners in the first round game at Cockburn.
If that was considered a fluke for the Silvertails they then followed up in the return game and won again.
A lot of changes were taking place in an effort to make the rinks more competitive
and at one stage it was possible for Cockburn to make the finals, however they could not continue on and it was over for them 3 games out from the end.
It is clear that the halcyon days are over it is doubtful if we will see the Club ever have the strength it has had in years gone by. This is the second consequtive season they wil not be in the finals.
One thing that Cockburn do have and that is they can still attract good players to their club. They look like they need to get some of the playere who were not available this season back into the fold if they wish to make the finals next season

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 79 (6.5) def CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 63 (1.5)
PLAYED AT CAMBRIDGE
This was a non event for both sides as there was nothing at stake.
Looking at the rink winners there were a couple of surprises. Trystan Smallacombe had a handy win against the very good rink of David Rankin who had his normal third missing in Pat Caffell. This loss was a double banger for David's rink losing on the Saturday as well
We did get word that both John Goddard and Ian Payne were sensationally good and that info came from a Cambridge player. Aj Heal took over the rink from the Jones Boy to experience calling the shots and will probably remember this game for sometime.
Kevin Pickering and his rink recovered from their loss to Robert Ball on the Saturday to come up trumps against David Opie while Gary Caffell and Pieter Harris slugged it out to finish a draw.
So where to for Cambridge Knights. Their season started full of expectations especially with their prize recruits Pieter Harris and David Opie. Add these players to the two the super stars from last season Trystan and The Jones Boy and they should have a full tank of petrol
to get them past the first semi final position they bombed out in last season.
The side was under performing considering the players they had at their disposal
and going on last season where the club made it to finals with 11 wins compared with the paltry 8 wins of this season. Last season the Knights had a mighty good record at home which we coined "Fort Cambridge' because they were almost unbeatable at home, they lost just the two games.
Unfortunately things didn't go according to plan, Players who skipped last year didn't perform to expectations when moved down the order which made life tough for the new skippers. Other players have openly admitted they haven't played to their true ability.
Trystan Smallacombe would be the most disappointed of the Cambridge skippers returning a low 7 wins 11 losses with a + 17. There in is the heart of the problem for Cambridge. However to be fair Trystan Smallacombe has been the flagship for Cambridge over the past 4 seasons,
and when the rink he is in charge of don't perform then Cambridge haven't made the finals.
One problem I see is the lack of opportunity for the payers in their second side. It is rare to see any of them coming into the top side. Perhaps a glaring example of two seasons ago was Graeme Leeks who lasted one game after playing as a second. That day he was up against Bill Galloway
and tho beaten he was worth persevering with. Graeme hasn't been sited since in the top side.
Cambridge face an uncertain future in regards to Pieter Harris, he announced his retirement
from State Bowls but we are not sure if that included pennants as well.
Cambridge are not behind the 8 ball when we see who they have recruited over the years and one could think they may go looking further afield while combining a harder look at the talent in their second side
Overall a very disappointing effort this season and something they need to sort out for the start of next season
