DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE v VIC PARK REDS

Doubleview PowerHouse have continued their charge toward the finals with another telling victory against Victoria Park.

This win followed up from last nights victory (their 17th Rd game played because of the State team being away in Canberra) against Sth Perth Millers giving the PowerHouse 14 points from their last two games and importantly they have beaten three sides in the top four in their last 3 games.

This afternoon they play Cockburn who have had the wood over them in the past couple of seasons. Three games played in 24 hours representing 1/6 the of the season in this time frame

Dennis Katunarich Doubleview (pictured) Here we see him with that famous stance before delivery. The Kat is one of the all times greats that has have ever played the game

This was a critical win for the PowerHouse to keep their hopes and aspirations alive to play in the finals for season 2008/9

The play of the day was skipper Robbie Ball playing the last end of the game against Anthony Provost, they were down 17/21 with one bowl to play. Robbie pushed a Vic Park Bowl back to make a big six to win 23/21 and that made the victory possible.

WHAT SHERRO THOUGHT AFTER THE DRAW WAS ANNOUNCED
D.Katunarich (sk)A.Dellaport, R.Barns, G. Nelson--------------24
G.Wishart(sk), T.Mitchell, W.Butler, G.Hiskins.. ----- , --------18

Geoff HiskensDennis Katunarich we are told was in brilliant touch in the St Ives Classic recently would be keen to take the point in this game. Aaron Delaporte is a bit of a Mr fixit man this season while Roger Barns has been out of action of late with injury, Gary Nelson has played lead all season but we are not aware of his form but obviously at his best he is very good.

The Victoria Park rink appears to be stronger than the PowerHouse in all positions other than skip, where most would rate the great Kat.

The good thing about Thomas Mitchell is he earned his place in the State side and that is how it should be.
From what we have heard on the grapevine he has been going pretty well as a three so far this season.

Wayne Butler has been in and out of this rink a few times this season and appears to be a fill in after replacing Simon Cavin who played second last week.

Geoff Hiskens Vic Park (pictured) has had a very good season playing lead and is generally one of the better leads in the competition,

Looking at the stat sheet it would be a victory for the Vic Park boys and that is the way I will go

Well it looks like Sherro has gone the wrong way and Dennis Katunarich and his rink have done the job, this game followed up from last nights game against Sth Perth where heard that the Kat was in brilliant touch
We have no info from this game

R.Ball(sk), L.Thorn, M.Mitchell, B.Fryer, --------------------------23
A.Provost(sk), S.Bainbridge, G.Quann, C.Hayes-------------------21

Robbie Ball has a 50/50 record since his comeback 5 games ago will struggle to win this game but being the person he is will take the challenge considering the opposition and the plight of the PowerHouse.
Prickles Thorn is back into his favourite position replacing Matt Mitchell while B. Fryer is playing his first game.
Anthony Provost took it upon himself to take over this troubled rink from Russell Hughes and the result after two games is 1 win and 1 loss, meaning the bulk of this team have been in a losing side in 5 of the last 6 games, therefore making them vulnerable in this contest

Overall Anthony Provost should have the call over Robbie Ball, Stuart Bainbridge looks better than Lindsay Thorn, Matt Mitchell should win his spot while Chooky Hayes who has had a stint in the two's has the experience to to win the leaders duel against new chum B. Fryer.

Anthony Provost rink to win

Another game we went the wrong way. The infromation to come from this game was on the last end Robbie Ball's rink were 17/21 down and only one bowl left in the game saw him play a bomb by pushing a Vic Park bowl back and make 6 shots to win the game 23/21

J.Slavich(sk), P.Buller, J.Bausor, C.Tunstall--------------.--------19
J.Mitchell(sk), R.Hughes, C.McNeil, D.Patterson..
-----------------25
On paper the Jeff Mitchell's rink appear to be a stronger foursome but we cannot under rate the likes of John Slavich, Pat Buller and Jim Bausor while the word we have hearing is Cameron Tunstall has not been playing at his top.
The individual clash between Cameron Tunstall and Daniel Patterson should be a highlite of this particular game
Another good match up is between Jim Bausor who is pretty steady up against Charlie McNeil who was in good touch when I saw him last play
You would think State skipper Russell Hughes would have too many aces up his sleeve for Pat Buller but if Pat can play somewhere near his top, and his top is brilliant he can do an awful lot damage
Both skips are hard at it, Jeff Mitchell is an under rated player but has got plenty of get up and go. John Slavich has done well with his rink which have been changed around from time to time and a 7/4/2 +24 stat sheet says they are hard to toss.

Jeff Michell to win a tight one

Nice to get one right -- we dont have any info exceptJohn Slavich tried to move something on the last end.

D.Trewhella(sk), K.McIlroy, C.Slavich, P.Kerr---------------------20
R.Butler(sk), J.Jaworski, S.Knott, G.Faulkner,--------------------17
This game promises to be the pick out of the four of them. Daniel Trewhella has done the job he was hired to do and leads the way as the best rink at Doubleview.

Daniel Trewhella lost his regular three Ross Dempsey and gained Kyle McIlroy who relinquished his skippers role. Since that change the side has won 4 of its last 5 games.
Peter Ker is a very handy lead going on past performances while Charlie Slavich has shown what he can do in the big games.

Rhett Butler was the number one skip at Victoria Park last season but his stat sheet is only ordinary, there are many less talented rinks who have a better stat sheet to show after 13 games
However things have changed and the rink has some grunt since the change of thirds which has produced 4 wins from their last 5 games. Included in these wins was beating the undefeated rink at that stage of David Rankin at Osborne Park.
They have a solid leader in Gavin Faulkner and a handy second, Shane Knott.

Both sides have a lot of firepower in the hit department and we know that Rhett Butler won't hestitate to use his players in this area .
Soooooooooo it is the King of Swing up against D.T, what a game we have here.

Daniel Trewhella to tame the King of Swing.

OK so we got two right and this was the rink draw of the day. Great to see the closeness of the score and would reflect how hard a game it was

7/1

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 86 (7) def COCKBURN 67 (1)
PLAYED AT OSBORNE PARK

Osborne Park Saints were sitting on top of the table and running hot and remained undefeated at home in this very important game against Cockburn who were in pretty good form, they had a lot to play for today with a final four spot at stake. With perfect playing conditions to play bowls, no wind and great grass it was game on.

Well those conditions suited the Roosters and they started out very well, they had come to play and were going to give this game their best shot.

It was nip and tuck early but some warning signs for the Saint's when their gun rink, that of John Goddard was under pressure 2/7 down.
Dave Rankin's rink knew they were in a game against Gary Carberry and was 4/9 down.
But like last week, the rink's of Gary Caffell's and Kevin Pickering were in control Gary's rink had shot out to 9/2 lead over Daniel Brown and Kevin Pickering's rink had Mike Zusman's boys under the pump.
So from the 27th end thru to the 52nd end Cockburn held the lead on the major scoreboard 47/46, was an upset possible.

G. Caffell (sk), W. Evans, G. King, G. Nicol,
----------------------24
D. Brown (sk),A. Jones (sk),K.Cousens, J. Galipo-------------.-017
This game was a corker and became a very good contest Gary Caffell and his rink were leading 9/2 on the 7th and seemed to be well in control of the game. However as is always the case the other side came back hard to stay in the contest and the score was 10/9 to Gary Caffell.

Both leaders were having a terrific tussle with both the General Grant Nicol, and Joe Galipo doing well for their rink. Gordon King for the Saints was going like a house on fire and playing very well and seemed to be on top in his position at this stage of the game. Wings Evans was having a big game as he seems to have been doing for many weeks now. Alan Jones was busy and looks the goods for Cockburn

Gary Caffell is in top form and that showed out again today with him playing superbly. Daniel Brown is a class player but was shaded over the day but still a valuable contributor for the Roosters.

This game was great for tight heads and terrific bowls and the further it went the further Gary Caffell's rink went ahead.

There was a very dangerous period on the 19th end when Gary was down 5 shots and the aggregate was not a certainty yet played a saving drive and converted for 1 shot and the score went to 21/16.
On the 20th end he was 2 down and again converted to be 2 up. These were very important bowls and it showed that there was plenty of spirit coming from the Cockburn rink. W e must say the score doesn't say how well Dan Brown and his rink played, they were good but the best side won on the day

J. Goddard (sk) I. PayneB. Galloway, D. Appleton, -----------.--20
S. Srhoy(sk), G. Catterick , M. Sokol.M. Muslin-------------------21
Here was a challenge for the Cockburn rink skippered by Steve Srhoy to win the point against the best performed rink in the Premier League. We must say that Steve Srhoy did the job when they met John Goddard's rink last season.

So it was game on and after five ends Steve Srhoy and his rink were leading 7/4, this became 9/4 on the 7th end and from there Steve and his rink raced away to a huge 18/5 lead on the 11th end.
Up till this time of the game Steve was brilliant and his rink in general was on top.

I spoke with Ian Payne who said they were being beaten by a better team and they deserved their lead. They would concentrate on the major scoreboard from here to keep the score in check.

At the end of the 11th end a mid green conference with John Goddard and his rink took place. Up to this point of time John Goddard was having an unusually off game, and Bill Galloway was not quite on target.

The conference worked because John Goddard found the touch he was missing earlier, Bill Galloway got going to make a difference while Apples and Payney were doing their bit.

Before we knew it John Goddard's rink were 19/20 down on the 19th end scoring 14 shots to 2

The 20th end saw some unbelievable bowls from both skips, Steve down 1 played a bomb to sit the shot bowl out and stay, John with barely any room to draw the shot bought gasp from the spectators when he drew the shot. Steve Srhoy said anything you can I can do better and blow me down if he in turn drew the shot, there was an inch to do it. John couldn't reply to that draw of Steve's just narrowly missing.

The skill of these two magnificent players make you just shake your head in amazement.

It wasn't over yet with Steve leading 21/19 on the last end. The jack was put in the well by a great shot from Ian Payne on a full length end and John Goddard had drawn 2 beauties. With the last bowl for this game to be played, John Goddard was 5 up with game set and match in hand .

Steve Srhoy drew second shot and won the rink 21/20.

I guess the more I see of bowls and the Slammer it is apparent why he has legend status in the game. He is one of the all time greats

We must add that it was a great comeback for John Goddard's rink and it shows why they are the best rink in the Premier League

M. Zusman(sk), S. Perica, J. Ravlich, M. Trewhella_____-___13
Kevin Pickering fresh from his great win the night before in the Best of the West Singles set play at Morley got he and his rink away to wondereful start and had Mike Zusman's rink well and truly tied down.

Cockburn leader Matt Trewhella was doing a good job as leader but his good work was undone by Fred DiGuiseppe who was having a terrific game.

On most ocassions when the skips crossed over Mike Zusman found himself down in the head and if they were up Kevein Pickering would alter the position
The score went 7/2, 8/4, 13/5, 14/5, 15/5. 18/5, on the 15th end. This lead by Kevin Pickering's rink was helping the keep the major scoreboard on par with Cockburn at this stage of the game.

Mike Zusman's rink came back into the game to win 5 of the last six ends to register a 6 shot loss.

D. Rankin (sk), P. Caffell, R. Lawrence, P. Pendergast
-----..----23
G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, J, Trewhella, S. West ----------------.-16
This game saw Gary Carberry and his rink get away to a good start to lead 9/4 after 7 ends. Steve West leading for Gary Carberry was on fire and giving his side a great start which was the main reason for the lead.
As is the way when the other side finds their range good things can happen and by the 13th end Dave Rankin's side had levelled the score.
For the next 5 ends it was atough battle with many tight heads and the standard high.
From about 3/4 of the way thru the game till the end Steve West game dropped away from the high standard game he had produced earlier.
the 19th end saw Dave Rankin's side hit the front to lead 18/16 and finally pick up 4 big shots on the last end of a terrific game of bowls.
Both Skips Gary Carberry and Dave Rankin were very good as was Pat Caffell and Steve Cerff.
However the player of this game was the Cockburn leader Steve West

Sth PERTH MILLERS 102 (7 ) def DALKEITH SIVERTAILS 65 (1 )
PLAYED AT SOUTH PERTH
This game played friday 20/2/2009 5.45 PM start

As expected a win for the South Perth Millers, the win by Matt Elull and his rink over John McIntosh was the win to make it a certainty

This game was a must win game for the Millers and their mission would have been to get 7/8 points which is critical in their fight to secure second place or better for the double chance.
Dalkeith have been good in their last two games winning them both will go back home and be reminded of how far they are off the mark they are playing in the Premier League.
Tomorrow they Play the League leaders Osborne Park Saints and that will be another game to see what and where they need to improve.

L. Richarson (sk),T. Williams, R. Donald,W. Tan, -----.-------.--.21
By gee Ross Bresland's rink are just getting across the line these days (nights) , a two shot win here making the last three games total of 4 shots up. But as we have said previously a win is a win and that is what a rink plays for
A good effort by Luke Richardson's rink to push Ross and his rink all the way

N. Reagan (sk) S. Lunn, R. Pride, D. lyons-----------------------.---24
P. Baccich (sk)M. Lindsay (sk), K. Brown , J. McCormack ------.--10
Nick Reagan had a hard fight with Peter Baccich with the score being 9/9 at one stage then took off to record a good win

S. Walker (sk), ,G. Reagan ,G. Pauling Cunningham ------------.--19
M. Krajancic(sk) V. Santostefano,P. Maynard, R. McKenzie-------27
Marko has another win and is easily the best rink at Dalkieth, Scott Walker's rink look like they are the rink that might be the archilles heel for the Millers having won only 2 games form their last 7. They were well down but managed to come back somewhat to lose by 8.

M.Elull(sk), F. Carbone, M.Trojack, M. Hughes, --------------------36
J. McIntosh (sk) ,J. Meehan, A Gryta, V Colley.-----------------------7
The word was Matt Elull was magnificent in this game and the win of 29 shots set it all up for the Millers.
John McIntosh copped a beauty a couple of games back 6/33, Last week he handed out a beauty 34/11. It is a roller coaster of ride for the Saint.
