The big win by Sth Perth over the Victoria Park Reds has the bowls world buzzing. An amazing score line with State skipper Russell Hughes on the ropes with another huge loss.
Osborne Park Saints win as expected, but it was a long way into the game before they asserted their ascendancy in a hard fought high standard game of pennants against the Wanneroo Express
Cockburn Roosters just scramble over the line against the Yokine Doggies.
Kalamunda Tigers hang in there for a good win
against a reshuffled Dalkeith Silvertails
Cambridge have ended the Doubleview PowerHouse ambitions of playing finals this season in a huge reversal of form to try to get their season back on track
Stein Davies in action at Osborne Park today where he has just driven at the head

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 88 (7) def WANNEROO EXPRESS 69 (1)
PLAYED AT OSBORNE PARK
An absolute cracker of a game at Osborne Park today
The critic (me) had predicted an 8/0 win for the Saints but no way was Wanneroo entertaining any thought of such a score line. So with the challenge of being the first to beat the Saints at their home ground and to strengthen their place on the ladder the Express got away to a flyer and led 20/5 on the major scoreboard.
Was an upset on the cards because the Wanneroo boys were traveling well, bearing in mind the standard was extremely high, at one stage Bill Galloway who was playing so well said they had the shots but couldn't keep them on the rink he was playing on.
Anyway
Osborne Park aren't the top side for nothing soon reeled in the deficit and at the 60th end it was 53/48 Wanneroo's way.
From that point on Osborne Park gained the lead and were never headed to win buy 21 shots.
Wanneroo certainly came to play and they can reflect on their effort
and know they gave their best and made the Saints earn the win.
J. Goddard (sk) I. PayneB. Galloway, D. Appleton, -------------24
C. Adams(sk) B. Axford, , D. Moore, P. Potts,-----.---------------16
Clive Adams rink were in control of this game till end 13 where they led 13/7.
This was a high standard game with ultra close bowls, there was rarely a loose head. As mentioned earlier John Goddard's rink were getting the bowls where they needed to be while Wanneroo were also very competitive and close.
The Wanneroo Wizard was the main difference between the sides with his many conversions particularly in the first half of the game as well as getting great bowls from Brian Axford, Damion Moore and Phil Potts who was on top in the leading duel with the affable Big Apple, Dave Appleton.
From that end on is when John Goddard and his rink started to get some reward for effort and went from 7/13 down to lead 20/14. Dave Appleton got on top of Phil Potts and once again showed his class and one hopes that there is bigger things heading Dave's way in the future.
The end that broke the camels back late in the game was a terrific drive by John Goddard to make a 5 or a 6 to break the game wide open with that shot leading to victory..
G. Caffell (sk), W. Evans, G. King, G. Nicol, ----------------------23
R. Humphryson,(sk), P. Knight, G. Adamini, H. Ward-----.----15
This was an interesting game to watch and my spies told me that Hugh Ward the former Osborne Park player was leading a treat with an outstanding game and he was backed up by the second, Rabbit Adamini who very good.
Wanneroo led for first 13 ends at 11/10 and were still in the game with Gary Caffell's rink leading 15/13 on the 18th end and were not headed from that end on.
Wings Evans played a ripper of a game and he is a very good third, draw or drive, he has it all and played a major part in this win.
Grant Nicol was having a hard day at the office and was well down but they don't call him the 'General" for nothing, Grant fought hard and often had one bowl on the jack or very close to it for shot.
Gary Caffell played many telling bowls for his rink played a very good game and would have been delighted with this win.
Paul Knight had a good game while skipper Reg Humphryson still retains his skills and he was called on many times to help the cause.
K. Pickering(sk) C. Fleay, DiGuiseppe,Couper-------------------21
Ted Alden (sk), R. Bates, N. Costello M. Hulbert---------------- 24
This was a hard game and the winner was not decided till the 20th end and the score was 20/20
Ted Alden's rink shot out of the blocks to lead 9/2 at the start of the 7th end, then lost a 6 to be 9/8 at the end of the 7th.
From this end on it was hard tough uncompromising bowls from both sides and there were many great bowls played by players from both sides, Heads were pretty tight and the standard very high.
Neither side were going to lose this game
with the effort that was being put in.
The last end we saw the bowls pretty close to the jack with Ted's rink holding 2 on the crossover after Ron Bates had nailed the jack twice.
Two times on this end Osborne Park played bowls that were a bowl to narrow to do the job to get the shot. Ted added to the count to make 3 and his rink won a memorable battle by three shots
L/R: Ted Aden, Kevin Pickering and Ron Bates all played a huge part in their exciting game which was decided on the last end

D. Rankin (sk), P. Caffell, R. Lawrence, P. Pendergast-------.----21
S. Davies (sk), D.Triffit , S. Alden, D. Griffin ---------------------14
Dave Rankin's rink continued on their winning form to win this hardfought game
against a determined Stein Davies led rink. The Osborne Park rink led for the majority of the time but were always being challenged with the score always close.
The 9th end saw both rinks level at 9/9.
I was not able to see much of this game but what I did see was a high standard contest. The rinks were still going hard where the score was 17/14 on the 19th end Dave Rankin's way and they won the next two ends to seal the victory
CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 90 (6 ) def DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 62 (2)
PLAYED AT DOUBLEVIEW
There were many changes to both sides for this all important game, the winner retained the chance to stay in the finals race. The Loser would be out of contention.
Cambridge have been way down on form and were a threat to no team in the competition. Doubleview PowerHouse finishing the first round with three wins and two of those came in the first two games of the round.
Robert Ball has come out of retirement to help an ailing Doubleview 16 and looking at that score line he could be excused it wished he hadn't.
However Robbie Ball is a champion and we will have wait and see if he can have an impact
The bottom line however is Doubleview have been blasted out of the finals and I cant see any hope for them from here.
Pieter Harris's rink have been down and losing their last 3 games has surprised with a win against last seasons best performed skipper Daniel Trewhella.
The Jones Boy regained some prestige after his rink clobbered Robbie Ball by 26 shots
John Slavich with a new rink rebounded after last weeks loss to John Goddard with a handy win against Trystan Smallacombe who is having his worst season in my memory.
Dennis Katunarich had a close game with David Opie in a low scoring game.

KALAMUNDA TIGERS 89 (6 ) def DALKEITH SILVERTAILS 82 (2)
PLAYED AT KALAMUNDA
Kalamunda were the overwhelming favourites for this game and the main interest was to see who played Marko Krajancic who has been in brilliant touch and has one of the best rinks in the Premier League.
A win was essential for the Tigers while the Dalkeith Silvertails who have made changes are just marking time till the end of the season where they will return to the One White division
What is pleasing for Kalamunda is the two guns rinks went down losing by huge margins but they still won the aggregate due to the huge 22 shot win Mitch Biglin had over Tony Skorich's rink
which was backed up by the very unpredictable Billy Brandsma led rink.
Marko Krajancic took care of Neale Paynes rink with a comfortable win to almost bring victory to the Silvertails and Luke Richardson had an impressive win against Kalmunda's best rink of Neil Payne
Overall a good effort in a game full of surprising rink results for the Kalamunda Tigers to win narrowly and keep their ambitions for this season alive

COCKBURN ROOSTERS 81 (6) def YOKINE DOGGIES 75 (2 )
PLAYED AT COCKBURN
The Cockburn Roosters had a lot to play for today
especially after losing to Kalamunda last week when they won on 3 rinks.
Yokine also had something to play for, a win would bring them closer to avoiding demotion.
Well as it turned out Yokine were in with a chance with three ends to play and only Gary Carberry and Adrian Durrant left on the green and Cockburn 1 shot down on the major scoreboard. It was Gary Carberry's rink that held firm to win this game for Cockburn winning a 2 to put the Roosters 1 shot in front then a 2 and finally a 3 to seal the win.
This win keeps Cockburn's hopes alive for a finals appearance
while the Doggies still remain in the hunt to avoid demotion after Doubleview's stunning loss to Cambridge.
Steve Srhoy's rink drew Eddy Dodd in the first game in the first round and won 22/21. This time there has been a huge blowout in the score and no doubt that Steve Srhoy and his rink have played the biggest role in this game to keep the dream alive
John Carter one of the state selectors has won his first ever game as a skip in the Premier League and what a scalp to claim, Daniel Brown and his rink are normally very hard to beat and in this low scoring game John and his rink's effort have nearly won it for the Doggies
Rocket Heaton has taken off like the space shuttle after a terrible start to the season losing the 4 opening games with a deficit of 68 shots. this is a comeback of huge proportions. Rocket has now won four on the trot and cut the deficit back to 17 shots.

Sth PERTH MILLERS 92 (7) def VICTORIA PARK 54 (0 )
PLAYED AT VIC PARK
Most would have favoured Vic Park Reds to win but also would have thought Sth Millers could take the game up to the Reds and get two points especially as the game was at VP.
A win would help Vic Park in their endeavour to get to top position and the first day of the finals as the prize. Sth Perth Millers has to see how far their developement in this season had come.
The bonus in this game for fans would be if Anthony Provost would meet Matt Elluls's great rink which is currently third on the skippers list
As luck would have it they did draw one and other and it is no surprise to see the Sth Perth Rink come up trumps in the contest of the round. A 25/12 win
This win has confrimed that the Millers are a hard at it 16 with plenty of skill and will to get over most teams in the competition.
Probably the big worry for Vic Park are the huge losses in the last two games by the Russell Hughes led rink who were clobbered by another leading rink in the competition Ross Bresland and his boy's. Well done to Ross on such an important win
Nick Reagan and his rink have come good and followed up with another win to keep the momentum going for Sth Perth winning 2 of their last three games.
Vic Park's only winner Rhett Butler has bolstered his rink with James Jaworski playing as his three had a narrow win against Scott Walker
