SCROLL DOWN FOR RINK SCORES
A terrific set of fixtures completed today and what a round of upsets to finish the first round.

Kalamunda beat Cockburn on one rink and that is enough to dent the Cockburn Roosters chances of bigger things at the end of the season, while giving themselves a sniff of a chance to make the four.

Yokine Doggies do the unimaginable (had to check twice to make sure the score was correct) and belt the Cambridge Knights who seem to now have lost their way. Yokine were on the ropes and going down, down and further down have by their great win made the season a lot more interesting and their own position interesting.

Osborne Park Saints do what we all thought they would do and defeat the Doubleview PowerHouse. The loss makes it very difficult for Doubleview to make the finals.

Wanneroo have a great battle with the carpet Kings on the grass at Wanneroo and keep the dream alive to win the flag.

Vic Park were always going to beat the Dalkeith Silvertails and it was only a case of by how much.

WANNEROO EXPRESS 89 (6) def Sth PERTH MILLERS 80 (2) def
PLAYED AT WANNEROO

Coming into this game it was extremely important for Wanneroo to grab the big end of the points Their form was up and down, win one, lose one. A loss here could have wasted the great start they had earlier in the season.
Sth Perth Millers had nothing to worry about except Wanneroo were the best side they had come against on grass.
With Matt Elull and his classy rink to lead the way most our poll showed opinion was equally divided.

This turned out to be a ripper of a game and what else would you expect when you consider what the prize would be.
Apparently it was close for most of the journey and the Sth Perth Millers were about 5 shots in front on the main board with 10 ends to play and the Wanneroo Express came home like a runaway freight train to take 6 points and send Sth Perth home with two points

S. Walker (sk), K. Pride,G. Reagan , D. Lyons--------------.-------20
This was quite a good game where firstly it was Scott Walker and his rink who were in charge when they flew out to a 11/0 lead. Not the start Ted Alden who had taken over as skip from Ron Bates would have liked to see.
Anyway Ted and his boys came home like the Wanneroo Express but just failed to catch the quick starting Scotty Walker led 4 by one shot. It was important that they did come back into the game or we would have had a different result

R. Humphryson,(sk), P. Knight, G. Adamini, H. Ward-------.----26
N. Reagan (sk) S. Lunn, S. Hamilton, G. Pauling
-----------------20
Reg Humphryson has his rink going well and they have made it 3 wins from 4 starts which is a pretty good accomplishment and the rink's success has played a role to help keep the Express on track for a finals berth

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 79 (7) def DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 72 (1)
PLAYED AT DOUBLEVIEW

Osborne Park Saints were odds on favourites to win this game. It was the first time for the players who had left Osborne Park at the end of last season to play against their old club....
The game also heralded the return of the Rolls Royce Robbie Ball to the Doubleview 16 and to the pennant scene. He has been missed and we have to look no further than the position they hold on the League ladder, (8th). It will be interesting to see what Robbie who played third today can bring to the table in the last nine games.
The game was also the first meeting since last years grand final..
The game was hard fought with Doubleview bouncing out of the blocks very quickly to hold a commanding lead. The PowerHouse led 28/15 at the 23rd end but were hauled back by the Saints to lead 29/28 on the 29th end.

J. Goddard (sk) P. Pendergast B. Galloway, D. Appleton, ------29
J Slavich (sk),C Slavich, A. Delaporte, C.Tunstall----------.-----13
Here we go again is what John Goddard and John Slavich would have said because they played one and other in last years Grand Final, John Goddard was the victor in that game. John Slavich has played a pearler in that game but lacked support.

Ok so what would happen in this game, here was John Slavich's rink and they were playing the best rink in the Premier League. John Goddard has been in magnificent touch and his players were all playing magnificently.
John Slavich's rink copped a hammering from Nick Reagan's rink in their last start, could they lift to the standard required to topple the giants of the Premier League

It was a hard fought game in the first half of the game and it was Cameron Tunstall who seemed to have Dave Appleton's measure while generally it was tit for tat with the other players. We see the score was 13/11 in favour of John Goddard's rink on the 11th end and we must say there were plenty of terrific bowls played in difficult conditions by players from both sides in the first half.

The second half saw a determined and never beaten Dave Appleton get on top of young Cameron Tunstall with some brilliant leading, followed by the evergreen Bill Galloway who was in sensational form while Paul Pendergast was every bit as good, They were clearly outplaying the front 3 for the PowerHouse but we must add that they were not playing bad bowls, just getting out bowled. The score just kept building up and up and it was game over by end 17 where the score was 21/13 and went on to 29/13 keeping John Slavich's rink scoreless from the 14th end.

John Goddard was in similar form from his last game and I can only say that he is currently the best player in W.A at this point of time. He was a 10/10 game for mine and he will be a State Skipper this January.
I think John Slavich would see the quite clear difference in his game plan compared to that of John Goddard where he like Trystan Smallacombe did in the previous game, drove a lot and sure enough he got quite a few but it didnt stop the Ossy Park rink.
John Goddard drove just the once in the last half of the game which he got but generally relied on his draw power to get the shot when down.

It is hard to see this John Goddard led rink getting beaten and it is clear that John Slavich and his rink have some work to do

K. Pickering(sk) C. Fleay, DiGuiseppe,Couper-------------------22
P. Buller (sk), R. Ball, L. Thorn, J. Bausor, -----------------------20
Here was game that was full of surprises. First we have Robbie Ball playing his first game since last years Grand Final. Then we have the PowerHouse players running riot for the first 5 ends and shooting away to a commanding lead of 14/0 after 7 ends. How in the heck was Kevin Pickering going to get back into this game. Prickles was on fire Jim Bausor was going well.

The only way back was for the boys to get em close and that is what they did, and before you could blink your eyes it was 17/17 on the 17th end and on the 19th end it was 22/17.

This Pic shows how close you had to be

This was one of the great comebacks by any rink and to hold such a talented DV rink to 3 shots from end 7 to the 18th end takes some doing and we must bear in mind that this was not an easy place to play in such windy conditions.

Top marks to Kevin Pickering and Bob Couper who are having their first season at Ossy Park and of course we cannot forget the contribution of Fred DiGuiessppe and Mr reliable Colin Fleay who been terrific since his arrival in the Osborne Park 16.

D. Rankin (sk), P. Caffell, R. Lawrence, J. Coleman---------.----21
D. Katunarich (sk), B. Urquhart, M. Mitchell, G. Nelson---.-.---15
This game was full of interest seeing the big Kat Dennis Katunarich back into the skippers role. An interesting test for the David Rankin led rink to play against such a talented player and could they sustain their so far unbeaten record.

It was David Rankin's rink that got into stride quickly to find themselves leading 9/2 after 6 ends. However the Kat and the boys soon reeled in the deficit to hit the lead at 12/11. Dave's rink were in a bit of bother and could they hold the fort to steady the ship and take charge. Well that is what happened because they led 19/12 on the 17th and went on to win 21/15 in a good hard game played in very difficult conditions

Best for Osborne Park was the leader Justin "Dingo" Coleman while Matt Mitchell played a good game for Doubleview.

KALAMUNDA TIGERS 88 (5 ) def COCKBURN ROOSTERS 83 (3)
PLAYED AT KALAMUNDA

Kalamunda Tigers certainly have had the wood over the Cockburn Roosters and today it was on again.
Kalamunda desperately needed some big end points to break away from the relegation zone and it was not out of the question entirely that they could beat Cockburn.
Cockburn with everything to play for and their recent form had shown they were ready for action and keep building up for the finals.
It was not to be when Neil Payne and his rink gave Daniel Brown a hiding and it was by enough to snare the victory they had hoped for.

Cockburn would have gone down that hill and felt like their tyres were flat after three of their rinks had done what they had set out to do and win their point.

G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, J, Trewhella, S. West -----------------21
A good win here by Gary Carberry and his side and I suppose you could say well done to Billy Brandsma to keep the loss to a small amount of shots

N. Griffin (sk),R. Eddy J. Morss, T. Dellar
,-----------------------20
M. Zusman (sk), S. Perica J. Galipo,Perry Sardelic-------.-.----23
Mike Zusman and his rink have done very well since he took over to call the shots on a saturday afternoon . Coming into this game Mikes rink had won 2 of the 3 games since he was made skip.
The big part about this win against Neale Griffin and his rink was Mike Zusman's rink only won 7 ends of this game, they got one 7 and two 5's in their score leaving Neale and his rink to win the other 14 ends

Neale Griffin and his side were awarded two 8 badges after last weeks game against Scotty Edmonds. In this game Neale himself was in a similar position finding himself 8 down and holding onto the last bowl. Neale cut it down to 7.

N. Payne (sk),V. Beckley , R. Pringle, P. Nattalotto
-------------33
D. Brown (sk), K. Cousins, W. Tepania, M. Trewhella
----------16
Neil Payne has a pretty good rink and it is sometime since we have seen he and a rink skippered by him to right up there in the best rinks in the competition. Neil is the 5th best performed skip in the Premier league.
This win set up victory for the Tigers and I am sure they will be the toast of Kalamunda for the next week or so.

M.Biglin(sk)S. O`Neil, Price, J.Wardrop-------------------.-----20
S. Srhoy(sk), G. Catterick , M. Sokol.M. Muslin
--------------.---23
Steve Srhoy got across the line by a very narrow margin against a good Mitch Biglin led rink. Steve and his side have taken all before them and this made it 4 in a row for he and his rink.
Mitch Biglin can feel fairly happy tho a loss is no reason to celebrate but what was important to keep the loss to a minimum score which at the end of the game played a part in this greta victory.

YOKINE DOGGIES 100 (7 ) def CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 78 (1 )
PLAYED AT CAMBRIDGE

Yokine were on the skids and after last week's loss to Kalamunda and what chance did they have against a very disappointing Cambridge Knights. To all and sundry those Doggies were goners and had nothing in the petrol tank that could worry the Knights
The Knights have four State players who skipper their rinks but there has been worrying signs, Belted by Sth Perth then crunched by Osborne Pk you would think it would be all hands on deck for this encounter.

J. Carter (sk), S. Edmonds, I.Coghill, P. Turpin--------------.---12
T. Smallacombe (sk) S. Rushforth, N. Lewis, , B. Kiely----------31

This is a big and very welcome turnaround for Trystan and the rink from their last game. It is an important win for the confidence of the side.
Unfortunetly for John Carter this the second time John has been in charge of calling the shots on a saturday afternoon and the second time we see a huge score against his rink.

E. Dodd(sk) A. Davis, M. Lemos, J. Lorencs----------------------25
D. Opie (sk), M. McGann,B. Katunarich, G. Kane------------.---16
It was overdue for Eddy Dodd and his rink to have a good win. This is the best rink at Yokine and they proved to be too strong for this David Opie led rink.

A. Durrant(sk),J. O`Keefe, D. Kellond, C. Hickman
-------------34
The Jones Boy (sk) A. Heal, T. Walsh, R. Bolton--------------.--14
Well what a win by Adrian Durrant and his boys who countered the win by Trystan Smallacombe by smashing the Jones Boy's rink right out of the picture. Mind you while I am surprised by the size of the win I am not surprised that Adrian did so well after seeing him play at Osborne Park.

R. Heaton,(sk) , Farrell, Sloan, Coffey----------------.---.-----.--29
P. Harris (sk), C. Lander,R. Stockton, W. Maher
----------------17
What a comeback here for Rod Heaton who had the most miserable start to a pennant season that anyone could have. After losing his first 4 games he now has a settled rink and this win has made it three in a row. The size of the win played such an important part to make certain victory would be the Doggies.

Pieter Harris's rink have been on struggle street for their past 3 games and one wonders if changes are on the cards

VICTORIA PARK 95 (7 ) def DALKEITH SILVERTAILS 68 (1)
PLAYED AT VIC PARK
This game went the way most thought it would and this leaves Vic Park in a happy position being in second place .
Looking at the rink scores Tony Skoric has returned to the skippers role and the rink did a good job against one of the best rinks in the Premier League.
Rhett Butler's rink returned to followed up on last weeks good showing and now have some good form

Marko Krajancic has been in brilliant form and to topple the Russel Hughes led rink is the highlight of the Silvertails effort in this game.

Grame Wishart had a comfortable win over third game skipper John McIntosh
