Sth PERTH MILLERS 84 (7) def DOUBLEVIEW 65 (1)
PLAYED AT STH PERTH
The South Perth Millers juggernaut continues on with a good win against a depleted Doubleview PowerHouse. However that is not taking anything away from the Millers.
Both sides had plenty to play for, Sth Perth needed to consolidate their position on the ladder and to build on last week's huge result of defeating Cambridge
The PowerHouse with two key players missing had to make a move by winning this game but were outplayed by a more skilful Millers 16.
The PowerHouse didn't come to terms with the carpet and it was evident on Kyle McIlroy's rink who were 1/17 down against the terrific rink of Matt Elull. It would be a hard task to get back into the game when the rink is so far behind on the scoreboard, however to their credit Kyle's rink hung in there to end up losing by 8 shots.
Nick Reagan's rink had a comfortable win against John Slavich and his rink, the Millers would be delighted with the Nick Reagan's rinks performance after a season of many losses.
Ross Bresland and his rink had Pat Buller's side by the short and curlies
to lead 20/7 at one stage of the game. Pat Buller's rink got back somewhat to lose by about 8. Ross and his rink have been a success story for the millers and a driving force so far, to help have the Millers in the lofty position they currently hold on the ladder.
With one game to finish the first round of the pennant season Sth Perth have excelled to be winners not only at home but also away from home which has been their Achilles heel since their arrival in the Premier League, have to play Wanneroo at Wanneroo.
Doubleview have by previous standards been poor in this first round so far. The standard of bowls they have played this season is well below competition requirements .
There have also been players missing from their list, Bruce Urquhart, Dennis Katunarich are the glaring examples. They have lost or been pushed to the limit by some ordinary sides and need to take stock.
No one expected to see them out of the four at this stage of the season and with 10 games remaining will have to take stock of player positions.
R. Bresland(sk), B. Bandy, D. Bandy, S. Kelly-----------------------24
P. Buller (sk), D. Katunarich L. Thorn, K. Screech, ---------------17
Ross Bresland has had a very good win here to keep the momentum going for Sth Perth
M.Elull(sk), F. Carbone, M.Trojack, M. Hughes, -----------------26
K. McIlroy (sk), B. Urquhart, G. Nelson,R. Pearce---.--. ---------18
Matt Elull and his well performed rink got out to a huge lead against Kyle McIlroy to be 17/1 up and cruising. No team in the competition is going beat Matt and his boys after lead of that size
S. Walker (sk), K. Pride,G. Reagan , D. Lyons-------------.------13
D. Trewhella(sk) M. Mitchell , J. Bausor P. Ker
--------.---------18
Daniel Trewhella got across the line after a dour struggle to be the only winner for the PowerHouse. Scotty Walker led up until the 18th end in a great contest before Daniel Trewhella's rink caught up to them.
On the last end the score was 13/14 down to Scott Walker. He drew shot with his last bowl to level the scores only to see a Daniel Trewhella drive convert to make a five and win 18/13
Sth Perth would be happy to see the performance Scotty Walker's rink
N. Reagan (sk) S. Lunn, S. Hamilton, G. Pauling-----------------21
J Slavich (sk),C Slavich,R. Barns, C.Tunstall---------------.-------12
Nick Reagan won this game after dropping a 6 on the first end and then proceeded to put the John Slavich led rink away in a convincing display This is a good win to take on the top rink at Doubleview drop a 6 then apply the blowtorch to win and keep the rink to score only another 6 for the rest of the game.
A much needed win here for Nick Reagan's rink who have not been able to put it together for the most part of this season.
OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 98 (7) def CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 66 (1)
PLAYED AT OSBORNE PARK
An important game for both clubs, The Saints have been impressive to be league leaders while Cambridge Knights were coming of a comprehensive hiding at the hands of Sth Perth last week.
On a first class green combined with plenty of wind which was gusting and fishtailing it would make life difficult for the bowlers.
Osborne Park were to soon lead their opposition on merry dance and it was the two leading rinks of the premier league leading the charge along with Kevin Pickering while Gary Caffell and his "G" team going bowl for bowl with David Opie and his boys
J. Goddard (sk) P. Pendergast, B. Galloway, D. Appleton, -----28
T. Smallacombe (sk) S. Rushforth, N. Lewis, , B. Kiely----------11
I managed to see quite a bit of this game and John Goddard played a sensational game and has clearly claimed a place in the State side as a skipper.
It was almost like there were 7 other players and then there was John Goddard. If there is anybody playing the standard of bowls that John is playing in the State of W.A then it would be a miracle.
It would be unfair to leave out his team mates because Dave Appleton did a good job and won his duel against Brian Kiely
who had a hard day at the office, we have seen Brian play many a better game than what he played today.
The second, Nick Lewis went well after swapping positions with Steve Rushforth while Bill Galloway who has been in fantastic form of late had a good game.
Paul Pendergast was very good as a three clearly winning his position with plenty of telling bowls while Steve Rushforth never had the impact it was hoped for.
Trystan Smallacombe drove a lot today and missed most of those drives and one might wonder if on some occasions there was a better option.
John Goddard was brilliant, when he was down or up he would draw the shot which he did several times or if he wanted that bit over it was almost always the right weight.
The spectators who watched John play today raved about the performance.
This game was never in doubt with the draw shot ability of John Goddard and the continual missing drives from the Cambridge back end ( they did get a couple but missed all the important ones)
After seeing a fair bit of this game it is understandable why Trystan Smallacombe led rinks have lost 6 games of the 8 played
G. Caffell (sk), W. Evans, G. King, G. Nicol, --------------------18
D. Opie (sk), M. McGann,B. Katunarich, G. Kane--------------20
Last week Gary Caffell met the biggest challenge of the season for him
when he played a great bowl to win the game for the saints
David Opie's rink were well beaten last week and would they do better this week against a harder side.
David Opie and his rink got away to a good start and they led for the most part of the game to lead 15/11 on the 15th end. It was here that Gary Caffell and his "G" team put their foot to the floor and lead 17/16 on the 19th end, However David Opie's boys hung in there to win the game and the only point for Cambridge.
---------Wings Evans best for the Saints---------David Opie best for Cambridge
-------
----
Wings Evans missed the game last week, he played in the two's for the first time in18 years of playing Premier League after missing the week before due to a prior arrangement.
Well he was the best player for the Saints in this game where he was forced to play the wide hand in difficult windy day almost all of the game
David Opie was the unanimous choice as best player for Cambridge with many good saves with telling drives
K. Pickering(sk) C. Fleay, F. DiGuiseppe, R. Couper----------27
The Jones Boy (sk) A. Heal, T. Walsh, R. Bolton--------------22
Kevin Pickering and his rink shot out to lead 13/0, 16/2, 19/5 and it looked like a huge win coming up for Kev and his rink. Up to this time Kevin was outstanding making plenty of important conversions for his side.
That was the end of their grip on this game because the Jones Boy and his rink came back hard to
to be 13/22, 18/22, 22/22 apiece. The game was won on the last two ends by Kevin Pickering, the heads were top class on these ends.
Best for Osborne Park was Kevin Pickering
Best for Cambridge was the Jones Boy.
D. Rankin (sk), P. Caffell, R. Lawrence, J. Coleman-----------25
P. Harris (sk), C. Lander,R. Stockton, W. Maher--------------13
The Rankin machine keeps rolling along nicely. Here was a challenge for the David Rankin led side which have not been beaten this season. They have drawn Pieter Harris who is one of best skippers in the business. Pieter Harris's rink were caught out last week when they played the brilliant Matt Elull led rink. Was it just one of those games or was there more to it.
Well it is not fun having to play rinks of this strength consecutively and they got busted again.
I was not able to see a lot of this game but I did manage to notice that Pieter Harris was not at his best today and is capable of better than he displayed.
The score went in favour of Dave Rankin's side 5/3, 7/4, 12/4, 16/5, 21/10, 23/10, 23/12 and finally 25/13.
COCKBURN ROOSTERS 83 (4) drew VIC PARK REDS 83 (4 )
PLAYED AT COCKBURN
Victoria Park were favourites to win this match even tho Cockburn had been impressive in their last two outings.
With a lot hanging on the game Cockburn continued on with their good form and were proving to be a handful for the Reds .
Cockburn led for all of the match except till the last bowl of the game when the Reds came from behind to force a draw after picking up several shot in the last 4 ends
Mike Zusman had a very handy lead against Anthony Provost's rink
to be leading 17/5. But you are never over the line till the game is finished, AP and his rink came storming home to win 24/19.
Mike Zusman was full of praise for the Pro who had played some incredible shots when down to convert the head to VP favour.
Last week Steve Srhoy hada strong win against Stein Davies and this week had another tough customer in Russell Hughes, a former team mate.
A good game by Steve Srhoy to take out Russell Hughes's rink with a handy 6 shot win.
Gary Carberry is winning the close ones lately with a good win here against Rhett Butler.

WANNEROO 102 (7 ) def DALKEITH SILVERTAILS 76 (1)
PLAYED AT DALKEITH
Wanneroo Express were disappointing last week and looked likely to fade away and out of sight. But one thing to get the Express in the mood is if I tip against them then they find that extra bite and prove me wrong.
Dalkeith pushed hard to almost win an away game at Doubleview last week so why not think the unthinkable and select them to win their first game at home this season.
Well it was not to be and we see a huge win by Clive Adams and his rink to set up the win and bury the hope of Tom Williams's rink who had played a terrific game the week before. The word is that Wanneroo leader Phil Potts played a blinder and was backed up extremely well by Damion Moore who has only recently been elevated to play in the Premier league.
Stein Davies got on top of the well performed rink of Luke Richardson to record an impressive victory. Stein was down 1/9 and to come back from there to score the next 27 shots to 8 and win is a great effort.
Derrick Griffin played a good game for Stein Davies today.
Mark Krajancic is in top form and his rink have won again this time against Ron Bates and his rink.
Marko led 8/0 and that was a good start at home but before you could say Wanneroo Express they were down 10/11.
Ron Bates and his team came right back into the contest but were not able to sustain their momentum with Marko pushing into the head and converting several time thru the game. However Ron and his boys held on to keep the loss down on what it could have been.

KALAMUNDA TIGERS 106 (7 ) def YOKINE DOGGIES 74 (1 ) def
PLAYED AT YOKINE
Kalamunda did well to get two points off Victoria Park last week while the Doggies would have left the Osborne Park Bowling club very proud of their effort of just losing the game on the second last bowl of the day.
A huge game here that would help decide the fate of one or the other.
Well this game was blown apart by Neale Griffin and his boys who gave Scotty Edmonds a nice old belting 39/16. Was this the same side that pushed the unbeaten rink of David Rankin all the way last week ?
A most unusual thing occurred in this game and that was Scotty lost an 8 on consecutive ends. I cannot ever recall this happening in Premier League. I guess it is not the end of the world but I can imagine how the rink would have felt.
Anyway the game went on and since the arrival of the charismatic Rick Eddy
to play 3rd for Neale Griffin, the rink has not looked back.
Another rink that has done well since a change of 3rd is that of Neil Payne who now has Vince Beckley playing in the rink, Vince started out as lead and been in three of the 4 wins over the past month. Today's win against Eddy Dodd saw the rink lead 12/1 only to see that lead evaporate into a 16/16 draw then for Neil and his boys to kick again and win 23/19
Billy Brandsma and his rink have turned the form around after a bad couple of weeks to beat Jamie O`Keefe's rink who were pretty good last week. That is a very handy margin to win by and it seems the Jamie Okeefe rink has tailed off somewhat and now has only three wins to their credit for the season with a minus aggregate of 19.
Kalamunda will be hoping for Billy and the boys to continue on with the new found form and push hard for a place in the four which is now within their reach.
Rocket Heaton and his rink were the only winners today for the Doggies and it now seems he has a nice compatible rink with the right chemistry to do well for the rest of the season
