OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 72 (0) def YOKINE DOGGIES 71 (0)
PLAYED AT OSBORNE PARK
What a cracker of a game we had this afternoon. The Osborne Park Saints went into this game with the runs on the board after disposing of the Sth Perth Millers on their carpet last week, the league leaders would have been overwhelming favourites to win this game.
Yokine were a sad and sorry lot after last week's debacle when they were massacered by the Vic Park Reds.
Coming to Osborne Park was not a lot to look forward to because of last week with possibly of more of the same again this week.
Well it is great to see the Doggies forgot completley about last week and came to put themselves on the line and take up the giant challenge to see if they could topple the
best team in the competition.
The game had it all, and lots more, with both sides locked in battle for supremacy, there were comebacks, fade outs, the agony and the estacy of winning and losing along with many brilliant bowls. Then finally the game was won with the second last bowl of the match.
I count myself lucky to be there to see a game where Lawn Bowls is played at its best, all the good things about Lawn Bowls were on exihibition today.
The first area needed was to get on top of John Goddard and his rink and equally the same for David Rankin's rink, these are the two best rinks in the Premier League.
Away the Doggies went, Eddy Dodd who has a pretty solid rink and it is better than the stat sheet suggests, had "Guts" Goddard and his rink
down 14/4 on end 11
Scotty Edmonds and his rink also came to play and generally have been the best rink at Yokine were well on top of David Rankin's unbeaten rink 11/6, While Rocket Heaton with his set of white bowls had Kevin Pickering's rink by the short curly's at 11/6
The other rinks of Gary Caffell and Jamie O`Keefe who would have have been on a mission of redemption after last week's dismal effort were neck and neck.
The stage was set for a Doggie's win from here on, they held a commanding lead of about 2o shots. Could the Saints salvage this game?
G. Caffell (sk), D. Appleton, G. King, G. Nicol, G. Ni------------15
J. O' Keefe (sk),A. Durrant, D.Kellond,C. Hickman-------------13
This match was a show stopper with neither giving an inch it was neck and neck for the whole game with neither able to get a break. The highest margin was 7/4 Gary Caffell's way.
There was a memorable end (4th) when Darren Kellond played a terrific bowl to be just 1 down, Gordon King sat along side him DK then played a pearler to get the shot, a sensational bowl if ever, but Gordon King played his second and played a brilliant bowl to move the jack 3 inches. The furtherest bowl of the seconds bowls woluld have been 9 '' away. That is the best set of four I have seen this season and we will not see better.
This game was the matchbreaker, with one end to play in the game and the score at 71/71 Darren Kellond got a very close bowl to be one up then Adrian Durrant played two bombs to make it 3 new third Dave Appleton was unable to alter the head leaving Gary Caffell with a giant task on his hands to somehow convert, his first bowl was too wide and maybe a tad to strong, his second bowl knocked up a short bowl (2ft or less ) toward the jack to get the shot.
Jamie O`Keefe who had held the whip hand for all of this end was suddenly confronted with being down and the game at risk decided to drive the bowl out which was quite possible to do, he was about a bowl too wide and the game was won by the Saints
Special mentions to Gary Caffell who had to convert many ends, his bowls were always in the area and he missed out by a whisker on several occasions getting the shot, Jamie O`Keefe would have been pretty happy with his contribution as skip
Adrian Durrant was brilliant, I have never seen him play
but on today's game he is a darn good player. Dave Appleton was close with a lot of his bowls without getting or changing the head for his skip but will get better with more experience in the position The two seconds Gordon King and Darren Kellond were terrific .
The leaders did their job Young
Chris Hickman and Grant Nicol contributed to the cause
LAST END SHOWS THE POSITION THAT CONFRONTED GARY CAFFELL

D. Rankin (sk),P. Caffell,R. Lawrence, J. Coleman------.-----22
S. Edmonds (sk) J. Carter, I.Coghill, P. Turpin---------------17
Dave Rankin's rink continues to take all before them and they have bought home the point against a determined Scott Edmonds rink who led 11/6 on the 9th end but it was all downhill from there for Scott and his rink because David Rankin's side lifted another gear.
It was nip and tuck for most ends with several outstanding heads. David was playing extremely well
without luck. Scott was always busy and would have been have been happy with his own game. It was 13/13 on end 13 but possibly the game was decided on the 15th end when all Ossy Park players contributed to pick up a nice three after a Scott Edmonds drive got three of them out. To get a three in this game was a huge pickup at any stage of the game.
Pat Caffell continues to impress as a 3 played many match turning type bowls
while John Carter does get in there to do his fair share.
Rob Lawrence, one of the finds of the season was slow out of the blocks but when he found his range he was valuable for his side, Ian Coghill is another to impress
Justin Coleman was well on top in the leading dual with Peter Turpin who played his first game for the Doggies and will get better as he starts to settle down
J. Goddard (sk) I. Payne B. Galloway, P. Pendergast---------22
E. Dodd(sk) A. Davis, M. Lemos, J. Lorencs--------------------20
John Goddard and his rink were in serious trouble to be 4/14 down on the 11th end but from here on they picked up a handy 5 on the 12th end then a 4 followed on the 14th end and another 4 on the 18th end and it is these scores that got John Goddard and his boy's across the line to win 22/20
Bill Galloway at last showed he was human after all when he didn't star the way he has been doing
over the past few games .
The word was Paul Pendergast was the man in this game, every time I looked
at this game John Goddard had his bowls extremely close to the jack
The best Player for Yokine was Mel Lemos who in a quite moment remarked how good the green was and it made playing very enjoyable
K. Pickering(sk) C. Fleay, DiGuiseppe,Couper----------------13
R. Heaton,(sk) , Farrell, Sloan, Coffey--------------------------21
Rod Heaton won his first game for the season and what a way to go for him and his rink. Rocket and his boys led led 11/6 and there was no way they were going to surrender their hardfought lead
Rocket was playing a great game, we could always see where his bowls landed because they were the only white bowls on the green.
He had his players pitching in and made life difficult
for Kevin Pickering. Lee Farrel, the new recruit from Wonthella has fitted into the line up like a glove.
They also got good service from lead, Wayne Coffee and Steve Sloan to keep the pressure on and maintained their lead to the end to give the Doggies a great chance of victory
Sth PERTH MILLERS 80 (7) def CAMBRIDGE 64 (1) def
The Sth Perth Millers were on a hiding to nothing coming to Cambridge, true the week before they were on top of the ladder but had failed to stake a claim as a side that could make the four.
This game represented a huge challenge, it was an away game, Sth Perth hadn't beaten a top side away from home, most tipsters would have selected Cambridge to win.
Cambridge would not have given a second thought about the possibility of losing this game, why should they, they were going like a house on fire and had buried the Millers at Cambridge the year before.
Enter Ross Bresland, Matt Elull, Scotty Walker and their rinks who demolished the best that Cambridge can deliver on any given saturday.
R. Bresland(sk), B. Bandy, D. Bandy, S. Kelly-----------------------25
T. Smallacombe (sk)N. Lewis, S. Rushforth, B. Kiely--------------15
Ross Bresland and his rink really turned it around from last week.Ross himself was playing without confidence, that is the way it appeared to me anyway.
To beat Trystan Smallacombe's rink by this margin is commendable indeed.
This rink of Trystan's is not performing like it has in other years and it most unusual to see the rink having lost 5 games already,
Ross Bresland's rink on the other hand has done a great job
and a major reason as to why the Millers are in third spot on the ladder
M.Elull(sk), F. Carbone, M.Trojack, M. Hughes, -------------------23
P. Harris (sk), C. Lander,R. Stockton, W. Maher-------------------13
Last week Matt Elull is playing one of the best in the business, John Goddard. This week he is playing one of the best in the business, Pieter Harris. It really doesn't come any tougher than that in the Premier League
Last week Matt Elull had his players playing for him because of his encouraging manner and at the same time his rink are quite a skilful four. Again I am surprised to such a difference in the score line considering the strength of Pieter Harris's rink.
S. Walker (sk), K. Pride,G. Reagan , Lyons--------------------------24
D. Opie (sk), M. McGann,B. Katunarich, G. Kane-------------------10
Perhaps a move for the better for the time being with Steve Lunn handing over the skippers role to Scott Walker and we see an immediate result with a terrific win over David Opie's rink
N. Reagan (sk) S. Lunn,, S. Hamilton, G. Pauling------------------8
The Jones Boy (sk) A. Heal, T. Walsh, , R. Bolton------------------26
Nick Reagan's rink are clearly in trouble and is there an easy answer, The rink has gone down big time in a game where there was plenty at stake.
However lets give the Jones Boy and his rink all the bouquets, Ross Bolton was on fire and played a magnificent leaders game backed up by very good Tony Walsh with Aj Heal continuing on with his great form.

PLAYED AT WANNEROO
COCKBURN ROOSTERS 93 (8) def WANNEROO EXPRESS 61 (0 )
Cockburn Roosters who a couple of weeks ago looked dead and buried have climbed out of the coffin last week to register a significant win against the Doubleview PowerHouse, a complete surprise to catch all the tipsters out in the tipping competition.
Could this form continue away from Cockburn in faraway Wanneroo against a team that has been beaten just once this season.
Wanneroo were favourites and rightly so, after all look at who they have sent home with the small end of the points in most of their games.
This win has resurrected Cockburn's season and maybe a finals place is on the cards. If they could get a couple of players back into the fold then it is more likely it could happen than not
Wanneroo have again shown they are a little brittle and more than suspect about making the finals.
All the advantageS of playing at home mean nothing and now two big losses (VicPark was the other) have got to show that Wanneroo are battling to register on the Richter scale such is their impact of late.
D. Brown (sk), K. Cousens, W. Tepania, M. Trewhella------------23
C. Adams(sk) B. Axford, , D. Moore, P. Potts,-----.----------------16
S. Srhoy(sk), G. Catterick , M. Sokol.M. Muslin--------------------27
S. Davies (sk), Ted Alden, S. Alden, D. Griffin ---------------------11
After a battle of getting some form going the rink of Steve Srhoy are now onthe way after a great win against the talented rink of Stein Davies, The size of the win is a little surprising because Stein Davies rink is normally good at home. This new found form has given Steve's rink a different perspective and will be a handful for who ever they meet in future games
G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, J, Trewhella, S. West -------------------23
R. Bates (sk),,G. Ellis, N. Costello M. Hulbert--------------------- 16
M. Zusman (sk), S. Perica J. Galipo,Perry Sardelic-Per--r-------20
R. Humphryson,(sk), P. Knight, D. Triffit, H. Ward-------.-------18
Mike Zusman is enjoying his new role as skip and it shows what a club man that Mike is, a player who will play in any position that he selected to play. This is the 7th win for Mike this season, he has yet to play in a losing side.
DOUBLEVIEW 87 (6 ) def DALKEITH SILVERTAILS 81 (2)
PLAYED AT DOUBLEVIEW
Doubleview came into this game with not a lot of form after lowering their colours to Cockburn last week while the Silvertails were beaten by Cambridge
The PowerHouse would have been favourites needed to win to keep in touch with an ever changing ladder, there are challenges coming from all quarters.
What we do know is there wasn't a lot in the aggregate with a couple of ends to play
D. Trewhella(sk) R. Dempsey, A. Delaporte P. Ker
-----.---------25
T.Williams(sk),V. Santostefano, P. Maynard, R. McKenzie-----.22
Daniel Trewhella's rink just got there but it was a close shave for the side .
It is interesting to note that Peter Maynard made the side to play his first game of Premier Leagie since the 2006 Grand Final where he was a start player in that game.
A great effort by Tom Williams and his rink to keep Daniel Trewhella's rink to a 3 shot win
P. Buller (sk), D. Katunarich L. Thorn, J. Bausor, -----------------27
J. McIntosh (sk), M. Lindsay, S. Back, R. Donald, -----------------13
The big "Saint" John McIntoshstepped up to skipper his first ever game of Premier League and the word was he played very well and saved many shot.
Pat BullsEye Buller is settling down into his new role and the wins will now start to come for he and the rink. Th margin in this game was the one to get the PowerHouse across the line for the major end of the much needed points.
K. McIlroy (sk), B. Urquhart, M. Mitchell,G.Nelson---.--. ---------18
M. Krajancic(sk) J. Morgan W. Tan, V. Colley----------------------23
Marko Krajancic was on fire with a big game today to defeat Kyle McIlroy who had a new chum in his rink, Bruce Urquhart . Marko is in stellar form and playing as well as ever and when he plays as we know he can, a win will most likely result.
J Slavich (sk),C Slavich,R. Barns, C.Tunstall---------------.-------17
L. Richardson(sk) T. Skoric, J.O`Meehan,J.McCormack---.------23
Luke Richardson has a new third, Tony Skoric who has so far has not been in a winning team this season and how good it would feel for him. This is Luke's 3rd win for the season and to take out the form rink at Doubleview almost got Dalkeith across the line.
VICTORIA PARK REDS 79 (0 ) def KALAMUNDA TIGERS 58 (2 ) def
PLAYED AT VICTORIA PARK
Kalamunda cannot get all rinks to fire at the same time
and had a huge task to come down to Victoria Park and expect any points let alone to win
Kalamunda have done well to come away from Victoria Park with 2 points
Their top side of Neil Payne's rink ran into a brickwall playing against Anthony Provost to go down by 7 shots but there will many sides in the competition who will lose by more than that score before the season is over.
Rick Eddy has had a big week this week, firstly winning the Box Allstars Fours
and a cool $750 and he was elevated up the list to play three for Neale Griffin and has immediately struck pay dirt because they registered a win against Rhett Butler's rink who are struggling considering the strength of the side.
A point is a point and who knows how valuable that point might become later in the season.
Mitch Biglin has also taken a point out of this game with a narrow win against Graham Wishart
Russell Hughes has proven his worth on many occasions and it was the strength of his rink that told the difference in this game
