Round one of the Pennant season provided a few surprises and that is what makes for an interesting competition.
Wanneroo Express got the points against the Osborne Park Saints in what was a surprise win for them.
Cockburn crushed Yokine in a game that many thought Yokine were a chance

Gary Carberry pictured here played a blinder and if any State Selector was watching they would make sure he was in the starting 16.
John Carter was in the losing side and saw first hand for himself the skill that was on display
Vic Park did what Vic Park were always going to do and that was beat the Sth Perth Millers
Doubleview PowerHouse were exactly that, too powerful for the Cambridge Knights today
Kalamunda Tigers played like Tigers to beat the Sivertails at Dalkeith.
The two new sides to the Premier League, Yokine and Dalkeith have both suffered humiliating losses. Neither would have envisaged such losses Yokine were clobbered by Cockburn and Dalkeith could not beat Kalamunda and what will happen when they have to play the stronger sides of the competition.

WANNEROO EXPRESS (5.5) 81 def OSBORNE PARK SAINTS (2.5) 78
Wanneroo have upset the applecart in one of the upsets of the round by defeating the National League Premiers. The game was switched to be played at Wanneroo and the word is the green was beauty for the start of pennants.
A poor start was overcome by the Express with two of the rinks down by many shots
To win against the Saints is cause for celebration and just maybe we have underrated the Express, however they will have to keep it going if they are to be thought of as force in the Premier League
C. Adams(sk), R. Humphryson, P. Potts, S. Donohue--------22
Gary Caffell,(sk) G. Evans, G. Nicol, G. King------------------22
This game was a ripper where we saw Gary Caffell and his rink burst into the new pennant season with a great start to lead 14/2 and that is s dream start in any language.
The word was that the third Wings Evans, was in full flight and delivered many telling bowls to give his rink the edge.
Clive Adams rink were down 6/17 and costing the aggregate big time and not the greatest feeling any rink could have. Soooo they rolled up the sleeves and combined as a foursome by getting close bowls in the head and doing it often.
With this newfound approach they almost won the point for Wanneroo but helped to win the all important aggregate by drawing the game 22 all
Ron Bates (sk), B. Axford, Neville Costello, M. Hulbertt-----18
J. Goddard (sk) I. Payne, B. Galloway, D. Appleton.------.--19
Another great game here for Wanneroo with the score board showing Ron Bates's rink down 1/8 and that is not the sort of start to be giving a powerful rink such as John Goddard's.
To their their credit they kept hanging in there and bearing in mind that Clive Adams rink was getting smashed it would have been a long shot for Wanneroo to win the aggregate. But with the fight back from Ron and his boys to hold John Goddard's rink to a 1 shot win is indeed a stirling effort
S. Davies (sk), Ted Alden, Simon Alden, D. Griffin-----------19
D. Rankin (sk), P. Caffell, R. Lawrence, F. DeGuiseppe-------22
Dave Rankin skippered for the first time in Premier League that I am aware of and he would be chuffed to win first up and this win was not a walk in the park considering the strength of the Stein Davies led rink. Hopefully I have this right that Rob Lawrence played in this rink after a late change. I can just imagine how he would have felt being in a winning rink
G. Ellis (sk), P. Knight, D. Triffit, H. Ward---------------------22
K. Pickering (sk) P. Pendergast, B. Couper, J. Coleman---.--15
Geoff Ellis led the way for the Express today with this comfortable win against Kevin Pickering who also is another first time skipper.
The word is that "The mailman" delivered once again for the Express with a telling display of skill
DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE (6) 84 def CAMBRIDGE (2) 72
This was the game of the round and Cambridge would have started slight favourites, especially at home where they are so dominant on the carpet. Cambridge would have felt comfortable considering they beat the PowerHouse twice last year and in this game had an even stronger 16 out on the green.
Doubleview PowerHouse have received a dividend already on the investment on Daniel Trewhella who led them to victory
J. Jaworski (sk) P. Thorn, Danny Slavich, P. Ker--------------18
D. Opie(sk), B. Katunarich, M. McGann, G.Kane--------------25
A good first up win for David Opie in his maiden game as skipper and I am sure he would have been delighted not only for the win but to show he can do the job.
We don't have any info other than David himself was a solid contributor to the win.
D. Trewhella (sk) R. Dempsey, J. Bausor, Charlie Slavich----23
The Jones Boy(sk), T. Walsh, Aj Heal, R. Bolton.--------------10
Here is a very good win for Daniel Trewhella playing in new colours this season. This should have been a clash of the giants but it looks like it was a fizzog. The word from this game was that Daniel Trewhella has a sensational game which played such a huge part in the victory and that Ross Dempsey was also in fine form, What a combination to contend with when in this form.
For Cambridge they didn't have any good players.
K. McIlroy (sk) A. Delaporte, G. Nelson, M. Mitchell----------21
T. Smallacombe(sk), N. Lewis, S. Rushforth, B. Kiely---------23
The score line shows a small win for Trystan and his crew but I know nothing of this game.
John Slavich (sk) P. Buller, R. Barns, C. Tunstalll------------23
P. Harris(sk), C. Lander, R. Stockton, W. Marr----------------14
John Slavich has done well to win this encounter against Pieter Harris who has a handy looking rink.
KALAMUNDA TIGERS(7) 76 DEF DALKEITH SILVERTAILS
(1) 70
I said they couldn't do it, they weren't up to the mark would get flogged had no depth and it would be a long journey back up that darn hill.
So what have the Kalamunda Tigers done to confound me!
The Silvertails should be embarrassed, they won all their home and away games in One White bar one and won promotion to be here in the Premier League and we find they can't beat Kalamunda, a club that has had significant player losses and has barely survived demotion for the last two seasons and worse still the game was played on Dalkeith grass.
We can't take anything away from the Tigers after all a win is a win and a team cant do more than that. We soon will see if they can do it against better sides while Dalkeith might as well pack it in now if this is the best they can come up with
B.Brandsma(sk), M. Clancy, R. Eddy, R. Payne--------------18
T. Skoric (sk), L. Richardson,W. Tan, S. Back---------------13
This game was hard fought for the most part of the contest as the scores here suggest
I have not much info except that Tony Skoric was 1 down with 2 seconds in the head at one stage of the game and decided to play with weight and went down 5 and that was the losing margin for this game
N. Payne (sk), S. O`Neil, E. Sydenham, R. Pringle-----------21
M. Krajancic(sk), J. Morgan, R. Donald, R. MacKenzie-----18
From what we have heard in this game is that Neil Payne played a belter of a game that bought a comment that he should be in the State side. We all know how good he can be and if he can play to his ability for a good part of the season it might just make a difference to the Tigers prospects.
N. Griffin (sk),J. Morss, T. Dellar, P. Natalotto----------------23
T. Williams(sk), J. McIntosh, R. Mitchell, J. McCormack----18
Neale Griffin and his rink were in control of this game for the most part, while the score looks close Tom Williams's rink picked up a 6 on the last end to make the scoreboard look better
M.Biglin(sk)F.Anderson,JohnWardrop,M. douthie-----------14
P. Bacich(sk), M. Lindsay, V. Santostefano, V. Colley---------21
The only Dalkeith rink to bring in a point against what seems to be a good strong rink
COCKBURN ROOSTERS (7) 106 def YOKINE DOGGIES(1) 68
This was a big surprise to see this result considering that the game was played at Yokine on a superb bit of grass, must commend the green keeper to have this quality green
The game was decided by the rink of Gary Carberry and his rink who won 40/6 against Rod Heaton's rink At one stage the score was 33/1 on the 14th end and the game ended mercifully with a score line of 40/6.
After the game I saw Gary and told him what a game he had played to which he replied " the boys played well" and this they did but none was better than Gary who walked on water such was his brilliance, not often do we see such class displayed in a game. My disappointment in him was the bad bowl he played on the 14th end when he dropped 1 foot short of the jack.
We can't leave Steve Cerff out of this either because Steve was also sooooooo good in this game.
The front two boys Mike Muslin and Johnny Ravlich played well. However for Yokine John McGrath I felt won his position in a polished display of leading but no matter how close he got to the jack and that was often he would see time and time again his good work in tatters.
Rod Heaton played a very good game of bowls and he too had to take a back seat and watch Gary Carberry play a 10/10 game. Rod played most certainly a 7/10 game.
G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, J, Ravlich, M. Muslin------------40
R. Heaton,(sk) J. Carter, I. Cooper, J. McGrath------------- 6
S.Shroy(sk), J. Trewhella, S. Perica, M. Sokol--------------22.
E. Dodd(sk) A. Davis, M. Lemos, J. Lorencs ----------.------21
The Slammer had a big game on his hands against Eddy Dodd and his rink and were down by quite a few 7/13 at one stage. This game was on the far rink and not easy to see but it turned out to be a nip and tuck affair with Steve Srhoy and his boys fighting tooth and nail to get back into the game.
They finally hit the front to lead by 2 with one end to play. On the crossover the Slammer was 3 down with the jack in the ditch and on his last bowl with not a lot of room he cut the count down to survive a thriller.
D. Brown(sk), M. Zusman, M. Sear, M. Trewhella----------24
J. O'Keefe (sk), R. Rewko, C. Hickman, W. Coffey----------18
I did not see the last end of this game so the score will have to be changed. However it was a game that Daniel Brown was in charge of for the most part of the game, he led 13/3 on the 11th end and looked likely to go further away but Jamie O`keefe and his boys stuck at the job and hung in there. It went from 13/3 to 15/7, 21/15, to be 17/23.
G. Catterick (sk), K, Cousins, J. Galipo, P. Novak----------20
S. Edmonds (sk) S Sloan, R. DeSousa, I. Coghill-----------26
Scott Edmond's side had a real challenge on their hand after a good start where they led 10/5 only to see that lead disappear and find themselves 11/19 down on the 15th end and they looked likely to go the way Rod Heaton's rink were going. Bowls is a funny game and boy can things change and change they did with Scotty and his boys charge home to win 26/20.
I saw Gary Catterick for the first time and he went ok but his driving certainly let him down today but he will be better for this first game of pennants in Perth.
---Gary Carberry and Steve Cerff celebrate another brilliant bowl from Gary
--------------------
A fantastic game by these two players destroyed any chance of a good start to the pennanat season for the Yokine Doggies
VICTORIA PARK REDS (6) 79 def SOUTH PERTH MILLERS (2) 70
This victory was expected and the Reds delivered. They would have been overwhelming favourites to win even allowing it was played on the Sth Perth carpet where many a side has had difficulty coming away with the big end of the points.
Considering the depth of Vic Park who are also one of the favourites to win the Premiership Sth Perth would be happy to take 2 points out of this game and it is a good effort to lose by a small margin of 9 shots
The Main destroyer was the rink of Anthony Provost who had a good win against top skipper Nick Reagan who has started the season off with a revamped rink.
While Graham Wishart led his rink to a handy win against first time skip Steve Lunn
Matt Elull played his first game as skip and was the best performed rink scorewise and it would have been pleasing to for Mike Trojack to be a part of a winning rink in his first game in the Premier League.
Ross Bresland has scored a very good win against State Skip Russell Hughes, on paper Russell Hughes has a far stronger rink than that of Ross Bresland and that makes the win even more telling
