Mike, you provide a marvelous service for bowlers, including giving results Saturday evening on 91.3FM. You have a great interest in all sport, however could you please provide the bowls scores before you discuss the cricket scores with Jason.
(They have been given just before you come on)
Ray Pride expressed the view held by many bowlers competing below 1st and 2nd divisions that regionalization is required as the traveling, particularly on Thursdays, is a turn off.
This problem has been accentuated by reducing the number of colours from eight to four and therefore limiting the possible combinations.
Reverting to the previous system for 3rd division and below would help overcome this problem to some degree.
An alternative promotion /demotion system could be invoked for these colours.
The bush fire appeal game this friday between the State side and the Metro Allstars has too many Victoria Park players involved.
Take Osborne Park who are the reigning premiers and and National club side champions having so far lost only two games in this season in the One Red have only two players in the State side and one in the Metro Allstars side. WHAT IS GOING ON
Who ever selected this side must have their head in the sand. Are they not aware there are other players that are more than worthy of being selected
A major highlight of round 15 in One White division was the loss of Stirling to Osborne Park.
The Osborne Park players are to be congratulated
on being the first club to achieve this result
Stirling have not lost a home game this season prior to saturday's loss, they were not beaten at home last season including finals giving the club at least 19 consecutive winning games enjoying the advantage they have with their very good carpets.
Perhaps they didn't lose in the 2007 season when they finished on top in 2nd division with 126 points
Often referred to as ‘golden oldies’, ‘veterans’, ‘experienced bowlers’ etc. Osborne Park 1 White continue to support the adage that form and not age should be the basis for selection. (Taped highlights of the Bowls Australian Open Pairs on Saturday featured a 74 year old who bowled brilliantly).
Osborne Park defeated Stirling for the second time this season, playing away on the carpet and kept alive their chances of playing finals.
Melville’s loss to Hilton Park ensure another demotion come seasons end for this once strong club.
Bedford are hanging on, however they meet two of the top teams in the remaining three games and they are in a struggle with Thornlie and Hilton Park with only one of these teams to survive in 1 white.
Since it was announced on the radio regarding the Yokine One Red players squabbling and some unhappiness at the club they have banded together and come up with two stunning results defeating sides that were in the four.
In one of these wins they did it without Rocket Heaton and Jamie O`Keefe
They haven't finished yet because of these wins have now given themselves a great chance to avoid demotion
Wanneroo’s teams promoted to White and Blue will be demoted after one season, which indicates how difficult it is to maintain three teams in 1st Division.
Bassendean will gain the automatic promotion to White.
South Perth recorded an important draw in Blue North opposed to Warwick.
The pennant play off will be on carpet be it at South Perth or Cambridge.
As predicted, the game between Bayswater and Doubleview was crucial with the rink draw to play a part.
Phil Simonetti returned to the winners list accounting for the rink of ‘Mouse’ Sertorio, which has had a lean season. Bomber Haring’s draw gained Doubleview their ½ point for the game.
Bayswater are now 6th with 57½ points, leaving Doubleview in demotion territory 6 points behind.
Bayswater are away to tenth placed Wanneroo next round, whilst Doubleview are home to top team Bassendean and the results may be season defining.
Scarborough despite a big win opposed to Mundaring, will have their top side in 2nd division next season. Their greens have been a problem all season and their future looks bleak with their number 2 side being in 4 Red near the foot of the table.
It could be sometime before we see this once powerful club back in the first division arena
Names associated with their good days from years back are Dennis Spargo and Ray Webster
Cambridge continues to impress despite losing to Bassendean at Bassendean.
Their performance has been as good as any team promoted to a 1st division and helped along by former One Red players Ron Stockton, Chris McKenna and Harold Christensen but in the main relying on players from the previous season.
How good are Doubleview One Red, the side played 3 games in 24 hours and won them all, it didn't matter whether it was day or night, what was impressive is they beat two sides in the four and got rid of one who was making a run to play in the finals.
Sth Perth, Victoria Park and Cockburn all succumbed to the class of the View
Once a regular in first division East Fremantle won promotion this season from second division are heading back to 2nd division, however before they depart they defeated Rockingham which could cause that club some grief .
Spearwood who have been a very strong side in previous seasons and having a poor season this year, defeated Safety Bay to give them a chance of overtaking Rockingham in the all important 6th position in Blue South.
End of round 14 saw North Beach, Stirling and Nollamara holding the top three places in 2 Red, however losing to Osborne Park (8th), Sorrento (5th), and Doubleview (7th) respectively, indicates how close this competition is.
Sth Perth One Red were going well until they lost to bottom side Yokine, it will be that loss that will haunt them for the rest of the year . With two games left for the season they will need the full count to give themselves a chance to play finals
In all the 2nd divisions only Thornlie are sure of entering 1 Blue and the uncertainties of results will maintain interest until seasons end.
Innaloo have recorded 30 out of a possible 32 points in the last four rounds in 3 Red, recording over 100 shots in each game. They have prospects of regaining 2nd Division next season.
