ROUND 16
Round 16 brings us some interesting games and it is the bottom end of the table that provides a lot intrigue.
Game of the round is Cambridge Knights versus The Victoria Park Reds. Should be a cracker of a game with some of the biggest names on show.
Osborne Park Saints are off up to the hills and no certainty to win against Kalamunda
South Perth Millers are going well will take on the Bedford Bulls who are desperate for some points and a win
The PowerHouse travel to Cockburn and would be keen to come home with points against Cockburn who did beat them in the first round
Melvilledo battle with Wanneroo. Wanneroo are just marking time now while Melville still have that small chance of avoiding relegation
-----The Jones Boy in full flight at Cambridge
---------
All the Merredin supporters have wondered why we haven't had a pic of the The Jones Boy, so here we go.
He has been the recruit of the year since he went to Cambridge, he has been a major factor in their rise of fortunes this season. The Jones Boy is determined to see a premiership flag hanging on the wall at seasons end and the way things are going it is quite a possiblity.
----ROUND SIXTEEN 15 TH MARCH 2008
----------------GAME OF THE ROUND
CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS v VICTORIA PARK REDS
T.Smallacombe (sk) N. Lewis,W. Maher, B. Kiely
The Jones Boy (sk) T. Walsh, N. Bolton, R. Bolton.
R. Stockton (sk), C. Lander,G. Kane, H. Christensen
B. Katunarich (sk) M. McGann, A. Heal ,C. McKenna
-------------------------versus
G. Wishart(sk), T. Mitchell, D. Florence , G. Hiskens
R. Hughes (sk), R. Gilbert, J. Finlay, Long
R. Butler (sk), K. Beaglehole, S.Knott.G. Faulkner
J. Mitchell (sk), C. McNeil, J. Finlay, D. Patterson
A great test here for both clubs amd more so for the Reds to see if they can defy the odds of winning at Fort Cambridge on the carpet. 2cnd place is what is at stake here and a win to the Reds will really bring the competition to the boil if they can win.
The Knights will just about close the gate on 2cnd possie if they win.
There are some of the best players in the game at the moment playing here and it should be a showcase game.
Cambridge surprised the bowling world by rolling the PowerHouse at Doubleview last weekend. Winning on all rinks was unexpected. All rinks clicked into gear and it is a good sign
Danger rinks for the Knights are Rhett "the king of swing" Butler who's accuracy into the head is incanny and Rooster Wishart's rink who have been solid.
Victoria Park won as expected tho the scoreboard shows Kalamunda made them earn their victory.
The Reds got hold of the Knights in their first round clash coming from around 40 shots down to nail them right on the line.
Player for player there is not alot of difference between the two sides with maybe the two Cambridge rinks skippered by Trystan Smallacombe and the Jones Boy who had a rousing win last week coming from a long way behind., if these two get rolled then the Reds will win.

-------KALAMUNDA v OSBORNE PK SAINTS

G. Caffell (sk), D. Rankin, G. Nicol,J. Coleman
J. Jaworski(sk) G. Evans, , F. DiGuiseppe, P. Ker
D. Trewhella (sk), P. Caffell, D. Guelfi, G. King
J. Goddard (sk) I. Payne B. Galloway, D. Appleton
A very good challenge here for the Saints playing on Kalamunda grass. Kalamunda have pushed a lot of teams pretty hard there this season
The Saints had a comfortable win against a desperate Wanneroo Express to end that clubs hopes for the season
James Jaworski's rink had a handy win tho the game was not a particuarlally high standard we have been told. However a win is a win and that is all that matters
John Goddard and his rink appear to have had a field day and John himself played extremely well in this game. He has his rink ticking over nicely at the moment but are sure to find the Kalamunda grass a little tricky.
Gary Caffell's rink won their first game after losing three straight, will be looking to keep their momentum going, again how will they handle the grass.
Kalamunda have plenty of good reason to be focussed will be going flat out for vital points in their efforts to remain in the premier League. Their effort to fight out the game at Victoria Park was full of merit even tho they didn't get a point but it does show that they are determined to avoid relegation and with a touch of luck here and there who knows!
The last time these sides played, Kalamunda held a huge lead against the Saints and then the rain came they surrendered a very big lead to lose an unloseable game so far in front they were.
After small losses to The PowerHouse and the Reds why wouldnt they give themselves a chance to win this game.

D.Katunarich(sk),P. Buller,R. Dempsey, N.Cook
J. Sharp (sk),---, R. Barns, M. Mitchell
B. Urquhart(sk), R. Ball, J. Bausor, C. Slavich
---------------------PETER NOVAK
------------------
Peter Novak, a stalwart of the Cockburn Bowling Club, a very loyal member and top class player who has filled all the positions over the many years. A great member to have at the club.
Peter led in the great victory last week against the Bedford Bulls
The Cockburn Roosters chance of making the finals appear to have disappeared but no doubt they are a proud club and will accept the challenge to beat the PowerHouse and play to win regardless of their position.
Last week Lance Strahan's rink played a very solid game and no PowerHouse rink would be safe in expectation of victory if they meet his rink.
Daniel Brown's rink had a smashing win last week can expect to find things vastly different because there are no easy rinks at Doubleview.
It is long time since we have seen that Steve Srhoy's stat sheet has been in the negative 7 wins 8 losses.
This has been a down season for Steve Shroy led rinks and one of the reasons why the club won't make the finals. Last season he finshed with 13/5 + 94.
The PowerHouse were surprise losers and it has me baffled how such good a side could lose on all rinks and one of them by that margin at home.
With top place very important due home ground advantage for the finals the PowerHouse would want to be bringing their best game with them if they are to topple the Roosters.
We have to accept that all sides can be beaten on any given day and the loss would be a timely reminder to the PowerHouse that 100% will be needed.
John Slavich suffered a rare loss and it was a big margin, are sure to bounce back There is little we can say about the other rinks other than they were competitive to the last bowl losing by very narrow margins which is indicitive of such a competitive 16

---WANNEROO EXPRESS v MELVILLE MAGIC
C. Adams (sk) N.Stevens, G.Cox, P.Potts
G. Ellis (sk), R. Humphreyson, D.Griffin,S.Wright
Ron Bates(sk), P. Knight, S.Alden, S.Donohue.
S.Davies(sk), T.Alden,M.Hulbert,Collins
-------------------------Versus
C. Girvan (sk) A Keating J Andrew Birch
C. Fleay(sk) R. Kennedy G. McCormack, G. Oakley
S. Hughes (sk), J. Hall, J. Spdaro. H. Mosford
N. Briely (sk), K. Cousins, R. Ireland, Murray.
The main focus here is not what Wanneroo can do but what the Magic can do. If they win and Bedford and Kalamunda lose they will give themselves an outside chance.
Melville have been very unlucky losing several games with tight margins. Their loss last week to the Millers was a big chance that went begging, had they won it would have given them much needed impetus for this game rather than desperation .
The rink of Steve Hughes has a different feel since the arrival of Jeff Hall to play three in the rink, while Colin Fleay's rink have done very well for Melville winning 2 of their last three rinks
That said they do have a chance of victory but have to have their best game on hand.
Wanneroo lost all chance of a finals birth will be able to play a very relaxed game with nothing at stake for them.
Last week we see Ron Bates's rink lose 5/35. That is a huge loss by any standard but we have word from the Osborne Park players that Ron's rink played well and the score doesn't reflect the game they played. Everything that could go wrong in 21 ends went wrong with the jack always going where it shouldnt go when Ron bowled.
Geoff Ellis is on fire and what a win to demolish the rink of top gun Daniel Trewhella to the tune of 20 shots.
Melville know the score, lose and that will be that

-------------------GEOFF WHITE

Geoff White transferred from Scarborough this season and has proved to be a very good recruit. Skipper is his go and last week played a sensational game in the Millers rare away from home win.
Here we have the Millers at home and extremely hard to beat on their carpet especially if the wind is up. Many a side has come and gone home with not much to show for the day at the home of the Millers.
The Millers are in the same position as Wanneroo where that will have a nice relaxing game with nothing to play for because they can't go up or down
The Millers were impressive beating Melville away from home last week.
Geoff White has played 6 games as skip, last week he was awesome in their huge win against Cameron Girvan will be hard to toss as will the other rinks
Bedford lost a big chance last week have yet another chance left to get the big end of the points and help to avoid relegation.
It will be no easy task but we applauded their great victory against Cambridge and that was on Carpet.
Steve Rushforth has been a surprise as skipper is handling his side extremely well, always encouraging his team mates on and getting the best out of the players Last week's win was a great example. Steve is a good skip and the Bulls will be looking for his rink to continue on with that form.
Cliff Graybrook's rink had a nice win against Steve Srhoy and is the top skip on the stat sheet at Bedford will also be a hard opponent.
C'mon Bedford lets go!!
