March 8, 2008
A major result in pennants and a staggering result for the Cambridge Knights keeping the PowerHouse pointless in a one sided contest at Doubleview
Cockburn turn on the turbo and and cruise to an easy win against the disappointing Bedford Bulls
Bring out the Champagne because the Sth Perth Millers win away from home and in the process knock the Melville Magic for 6. The Magic were on their last chance and we can say goodbye and farewell to them for at least a season.
Victoria Park Reds fire on all four to get all the points against a determined Kalamunda 16
Osborne Park Saints show some of that old spark to put the Wanneroo Express out of the big picture
A cluster of Cockburn Roosters and all vitally interested in the opposition bowl

CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 96 (8) def DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 70 (0)
Not many would have tipped this result today ! Doubleview had little to play for in one sense that is they will play in the second semi-final. Cambridge have two gun sides right up their clacker and a false step here could see them lose the coveted 2nd placing.
When told the scoreline I asked for it to be repeated, surely their was a mistake, please repeat the score was the question and it was the same reply.
It is hard to think that Cambridge Knights after 2 previous ordinary games for a contender to win the premiership could whip the best team in the league 8/0 at the Doubleview
Well of course this result is good for the game and the Knights who beat the PowerHouse in the first round.
After asking Pat " bullseye" Buller what happened ? he said "Sherro we can't offer any excuses the Knights were too good on the day and they thoroughly deserve their win".
T.Smallacombe (sk) N. Lewis,W. Maher, B. Kiely ------------.--28
J. Slavich(sk) K. McIroy,D. Slavich,A. Delaport-----------------13
These are contests between the heavyweights of the competition that make the game so interesting. The 2nd best rink in the premier league playing the 3rd best rink. Enough to send a fellah like me into a spin.
Well as we see often when these meetings between to great rinks they can occasionally end up being a bit of a fizzog. Mind you that is a pretty handy scoreline for Trystan Smallacombe's rink
R. Stockton (sk) C. Lander, G. Kane, H. Christensen-------.----22
D.Katunarich(sk),PBuller, R. Dempsey, Nigel cook ------------20
This would be a very nice win for Ron Stockton and his rink after last weeks hammering. To win by 2 shots against this quality side who incidently had a new leader playing his first ever game in the Premier League, Nigel Cook who would have the uneviable job of trying to get the better of one of the best leaders in the game, Harold Christensen..
The Jones Boy (sk) T. Walsh, N. Bolton, R. Bolton.----------.---21
J. Sharp (sk),L. Thorn, R. Barns, M. Mitchell-------------.------20
The Jones Boy's rink came from the almost dead and buried after being 3/15 down and going nowhere, as a matter of fact they had called the funeral parlour to come and collect the body and get it readied for burial.
Well I have no idea what, why or how but the side got into stride and took on the masters of the tight hard contest and nabbed them right on the line to win the game by one shot.
B. Katunarich (sk), A. Heal, M. McGann, C. McKenna,----- ----25
B. Urquhart (sk) , R. Ball J. Bausor, C. Slavich------------------17
This was a sensational win by Brian Katunarich who's fotunes are on the rise.
This was a hard tight contest and most would select Bruce Urquhart to win the game with the side he has at his disposal
The game at the conclusion of the 20th end was 17/17 all. What was to happen next is unusual to say the least. Bruce was a heap down on the crossover and managed to draw second shot. Brian promptly rested it back to stay in the count Bruce tried to draw again and was not able to do so. Brian and his rink scored an 8 to win the game.
COCKBURN ROOSTERS 88 (6) def BEDFORD BULLS 66 (2)
WHILE BEDFORD CONTINUE TO PLAY ON RINKS 3,4,5,6 I and other spectators cannot see any rink properly. Surely if spectators come to watch the Premier League play then Bedford should play rinks 1.2.3.4. It is inconvenient to spectators with 3/4th division rink playing on rinks 1,2. where much of the vision is blocked out. Oh well only one more home game to go
Both teams had plenty of reasons to play well today. Our poll showed that Cockburn was the team our visitors thought would win. Hang on !! hadnt they looked at the form of both sides? Bulls 2 wins on the trot against 3 losses from four games for the Roosters
The Bulls got away to a nice start to lead 33/16 after 30 ends and were looking good, they were however very subdued in their voice and encouragement Well it didn't matter to Cockburn who started to take big strides and quickly overhauled the Bulls to shoot out and lead handsomely. It was a good win for the Roosters while Bedford let a good chance slip away.
The big thing for Bedford was to at least get 2 points out of this game because Kalamunda got none.
Daniel Brown Cockburn (pictured below) played a huge game along with his rink to put Bedford down for the count
---------------
D. Brown (sk) L. Richardson,, M. Sokol, P. Novak-----------.-.--32
D. Scott (sk) N. Minchin, J. Gupanis, J. Winship----------------10
I was not able to see this game but early on the score was neck and neck 5/4 in favour of Dave Scott's rink, and suddenly we saw the scoreboard ticking over like a fast winding clock to see a huge blowout in the score to be 29/7 and finish 32/10
This was the rink led by Daniel Brown that set up this victory
Dave Scott would be a tad dissapointed especially after the rinks recent form which as been pretty good. Still these things have happened to us all and I am sure the rink will bounce back
G. Carberry(sk), S. Cerff, D. Penman, S. West--------------------16
S. Rushforth(sk),K. Burke, Paul Hunter, P Hunter,-------------19
----------------
A great contest here with Steve Rushforth and his rink slipping out early to lead 10/2. on end 7 and were looking the goods. However Gary Carberry and his boys rolled up the sleeves and got busy to level at 10/10 on end 11 and then asserted themselves even more to lead 16/10. Steve and his rink had come to a grinding halt
or so it appeared then regained momentum to win 19/16
It was a strange game in as much both sides dominated, Steve scored 10 Gary then scored 16 and Steve scored 9 to take out the game.
L. Strahan (sk) M. Kurta, J. Ravlich, M. Musulin----------------28
S. Bainbridge(sk) ,N. Watson ,K. Hough, P. Turpin-------.-.----17
This was the closest rink to the spectators (3) and we were able to see a little of the game but we were blocked from seeing the heads properly on many occasions.
We dont have the chance to see Lance Strahan and Stuart Bainbridge going head to head often but the little we did see was brilliant with both skips going bowl for bowl and the score was 9/7 in favour of Stu at the 7th end. From here on it was all Lances rink as they swept to a handy lead 21/10 to virtually seal the game and went on to win 28/17
Neil Watson was prominent from what we could see as was Matt Kurta who still has that bit of razzle dazzle in his game that makes him such a good player.

SOUTH PERTH MILLERS 83 (6) def MELVILLE MAGIC 61 (2)
Not a lot hanging on this game for the Millers other than to break the tag of being Lambs away from home. This win was a good acheivement today considering that Melville were running hot and giving plenty in their endeavours to try and get out of the relegation zone.
The biggest surprise of the game was the overwhelming win by Geoff White and his rink to crush one of the best rinks in the Premier League, that of Cameron Girvan. It is a bit sad to see Cameron's rink who have carried the Magic for most of the season fall at the most critical time.
However while there is sadness for Cameron there was absoloute joy for Geoff White who has been impressive since taking on the skippers role. The word is Geoff played an outstanding game today and it backed up the decision of the Sth Perth Millers to show that had got themselves a great recruit.
A big win for Steve Hughes taking on and beating the highy rated rink of Nick Reagan, Steve and his boys only just got there in the end after leading 10/0. The Nick Reagn rink has shown great fighting qualities when down.
Melville would feel down somewhat after losing a game they would have been favourites to win and now will have to plan for next season in One White

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 87 (7) V WANNEROO EXPRESS 74 (1)
Both sides had a lot a stake going into this contest. Our poll was on the money when the majority went for the Saints but no one would have predicted that the best rink in the Premier League, that of Daniel Trewhella would get floored and Osborne Park could stil win.
Ah yes!! that Old Man River, skipper Geoff Ellis just keeps rollin along, What a win by he and his rink, of all and any rink wins this season this is the biggest. Well done fellahs
Fortunetly for the Saints John Goddard's rink did even better the Geoff Ellis's rink to level things out for the Saints and allowed Ron Bates and his rink a miserly 5 shots for the entire game. Could this be the start of something big for John's rink, after all it is loaded with all the right requirements
Another important win was that of Gary Caffell who has had a run of outs losing his last three games, had drawn the Wanneroo Wizard Clive Adams who along with his rink has been running hot and very impressive of late. Both sides are stacked with terrific players and would have been great to view this contest.
A sigh of relief for Gary and his boys to take the point for the game.
Osborne Park would be happy to see James Jaworski have a handy win especially against such a tough customer like Stein Davies and his third Ted Alden who were brilliant in the Master Pairs. So if you can get the point against opposition such as this your rink is traveling ok James.
