February 9, 2008
A little early to say but it appears that after the Cockburn loss to Wanneroo it has made the final four become clearer. Cockburn have a game in hand over Vic Park and are the only team outside the four who has a realistic chance to force their way into the four. Last season Cockburn were in a similar position and made it.
Osborne Park on the move with a good win against a tenacious Bedford Bulls
Doubleview PowerHouse hammer the Victoria Park Reds and take them to the cleaners with a whopping scoreline, 52 shots up at the end of play for the day
Cambridge Knights too strong and too good for the Sth Perth Millers
Wanneroo Express put the Cockburn Roosters to rest with a 6/2 win
Official: in a surprise to the Bowling world Melville win their second game for the season defeating Kalamunda 7/1

DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 106 (7) def VICTORIA PARK REDS 54 (1)
This was the game of the round and something to look forward to, The Reds were on a roll, playing at home and brim full of confidence. Our poll showed that the PowerHouse were over whelming favourites, 78% of our voters selected them to win.
Well the Reds were put back in their box and sent packing and the message to come out of the game is they don't have the fire power to win the premiership.
Russell Hughes as a skipper has not suffered a loss of that size that I can remember, 7/33 is a monster loss. Full credit to John Slavich and his rink for their magnificent performance, they only play at VP once a year in pennants so it even more to their credit to have a win of this size..
The other surprise loss is that of Rooster Wishart to get rolled 34/13. I saw this rink last week and they didn't do anything that might suggest a loss of this size was on the cards for this game. Bruce Urquhart has yet to lose a game since taking over the reigns from Robbie Ball as skip.
Rhett Butler's rink recovered from the beating they took from Geoff Ellis last sunday to defeat Jon Sharp's rink by just one shot.
Jeff Mitchell and his rink had a close game with Dennis Kat to only just go down, To get within 4 shots of this rink is a good effort.
Where to for the Reds, everything in their favour to win today and they get smashed. It appears they are a good side but not a premiership side and have some way to go before they can be considered as likely premiership contenders..
The PowerHouse took the challenge and came out of it as still the side to beat and have reinforced popular opinion that they have firepower to win the 2008 Premiership
Pat Buller Dubleview (pictured above) Has been a valuable conrtibutor to the PowerHouse success over the years

WANNEROO EXPRESS 93 (6) def COCKBURN ROOSTERS 59 (2)
This win was not expected considering that Cockburn were about as strong as they could be for this season deciding game. Wanneroo Express have been struggling this season but have managed to beat some of the top four sides.
The main thrust of this win was led by the Stein Davies led rink who the previous week were hammered at Victoria Park by 25 shots courtesy of Jeff Mitchell's rink. This is a turnaround 51 shots. Hard to beleive when we see the quality of their opposition and with so much at stake.
A rink that can never be underated is that of Clive Adams, he hasn't had the results this season that he would like, but the rink got hold of Daniel Brown to make sure the Express would win today
Steve Srhoy's rink has had a 50/50 season and has proved to be hard to beat over many seasons defeated Geoff Ellis's rink narrowly while Lance Strahan has been in sparklng form got his rink against Ron Bates by 3 shots.
Where to for Cockburn after a loss such as this, it was an unexpected loss, things don't seem settled at the moment for this famous club. They have three games ahead of them that the top sides would win, they play Sth Perth away, Melville at home and Bedford away.
But on the form they have shown it would not surprise if these were lost. Of course wins would enable them to regather lost ground, their last three games are as tough as they come.

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 86 (7) def BEDFORD BULLS 70 (1)
This game was far more important to The Osborne Pk Saints than it was to the Bedford Bulls. The Saints have lost to the bottom sides on occasions in the past when least expected. Their loss against the Bulls in the first round was such an occasion
When I arrived at around 3.PM it was the Bulls who were making life hard for the Saints. Fred DeGuiseppe passed by me and remarked that it was always a hard game when the Saints played the Bulls,
This green was slower than the last time the Saints played Bedford at home when they belted the Bulls.
The Major scoreboard showed 39/37 on end 39 in favour of the Saints. Three games were close with new skip David Scott and his rink well in front of Gary Caffell's rink they were leading 12/5. Cliff Graybrook led James Jaworski 13/8 Stu Bainbridge 5/6. The exception was John Goddard and his rink led 19/4.
The Bulls were overcome by a skilful and determined Saints outfit who are another of those sides that have plenty of voice and encouragement for one and other.
The Bulls did well today and showed plenty of determination and on that display they could trouble other fancied sides.
J. Jaworski(sk) G. Evans, , F. DiGuiseppe, P. Ker---------.------23
C.Graybrook (sk),B. Donovan, P. Healy, A. Mayer---------------21
James Jaworski and his rink were behind till around the 15th end and that is when they got the break to shoot away and lead 23/17 on end 19 and we saw Cliff and his boys win the last two ends to lose narrowly
J. Goddard (sk) B. Galloway, D. Appleton, D. Adam------------29
B. Fullagar(sk), Paul Hunter, N. Watson, Peter Hunter---------13
John Goddard and his rink got away to a great start in this contest and were leading 19/4. The Saints front end were going great guns while The backend were playing as needed. the front two players went off the boil and that is when when Bedford scored a few shots but it was always going to be a John Goddard rink win.
The players were unanimous that John Goddard played a ripper of a game and was the best player in the game. He played several brilliant conversions during the game and was backed up by Bill Galloway throughout the game.
The Saints players thought leader Peter Hunter was the best player for the Bulls
G. Caffell (sk), D. Rankin, G. Nicol, G. King, .--------------.---.--13
D. Scott (sk) N. Minchin, J. Gupanis, J. Winship----------------23
This win was a surprise considering it was David Scott's second game as a skipper, tho he must have felt encouraged after last week's performance when they lost by 3 shots. It was a quality rink that they were up against and it makes the win even more meritorious
John Winship had another good game and led very well to make things easier for his team mates and he has been a great new player for the Bulls, Jim Gupanis often had his bowls where they needed to be also made it hard for the Saints. Neil Minchin was always busy. Of course David did his part and he always encouraged his team mates to win the game
Gary Caffell and Dave Rankin played well but were generally under the pump due to the good work of all Bedford players. Even tho Gary Caffell's rink lost it was a very good standard game of bowls
---------------------
Just who does have the shot as Bedford's Jim Gupanis gets his card out ready to score as Neil Minchin and Dave Rankin determine who has the shot
D. Trewhella (sk), P. Caffell, D. Guelfi, J. Coleman.-------------20
S. Bainbridge(sk) S. Rushforth, K.Hough, P. Turpin------------14
Another great game where the scores don't indicate what a good game this was. It was close up till the 17th end when the scores were 15/12 in D.T's favour.
CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 113 (7.5 ) def Sth PERTH MILLERS 74 (. 05)
Cambridge Knights were never under siege at the Fort today, what is surprising is the huge scoreline. It is hard to imagine that any side will beat Cambridge this season at home.
The top rink in the Premier League that of Trystan Smallacombe were pushed to the limit by Scott Walker's rink to manage a draw, it was a top effort by Scott and his boys to get as close as they did.
The Jones Boy and his rink really took to the extremely well performed rink of Nick Reagan who was the 4th best rink in the competition. It is hard to say what went wrong for Nick but that is a hiding when you lose 36/10.
They say the Jones Boy is in career best form, but he always says it is the players in front of him that win the games.
Ron Stockton's rink have gone extremely well since Aj Heal crossed over to play 3 since the unavailability of Chris Lander and another win here has made it hard for the Cambridge selectors when Chris becomes available soon as to where he might fit into the side.
This win still keeps alive the hopes of Cambridge of playing the first day of the finals at home.
