KALAMUNDA 75 (6) def Sth PERTH MILLERS 63 (2)
In a critical win for both clubs it was Kalamunda who stole the majority of the points over a disappointing South Perth Millers. It was a tale of two halves after the Millers kicked clear early to lead by over 20 shots, but as they have done too often this season, they let the opposition back into the contest and Kalamunda didn\'t need a second invitation as their back end experience secured a vital six points.
The Millers had their opportunity to shut the relegation gate once and for all, but seemed to lack the fire in the belly that has stood them in good stead over the year, particularly at home. Kalamunda on the other hand could have given it away to fight another day, but stood up well to make a major step out of the relagation zone.
Ken Pride vs Mitch Biglin
The Millers started well with a slim but important lead (5-2), when Farley Anderson who was terrific all day as a three played some telling bowls. The leads and seconds failed to have any real impact, with the battle fought at the back end and it was here the kalamunda duo of Anderson and Biglin, shaded Tom Antonio and Ken Pride when the big bowls were needed. Biglin skipped away to lead 12-5 and from here the match stayed fairly constant until the final end.
As bowls can do to you, it is never over and down 18-11 on the board and the last bowl of the day Ken Pride had to move a Kalamunda bowl two feet and stay for seven and an unlikely 1/2 point. It was not to be and a solid kalamunda win.
Scott Walker vs Neil Payne
After a tight opening, with both sides wrestling for a break it was Steve O\'Neill who broke the game open with some great draw bowls at three. The leads were having a super battle up front, but again the Kalamunda back end overpowered the Millers at crucial stages to set up a match winning break. Neil Payne (after trying the old switcheroo in swapping his old bowls for a new set behind Rod Heaton\'s back)put the foot down in the last 10 ends to ensure an aggregate winning margin and that was all she wrote.
Geoff White vs Neil Griffin
The Millers were excellent early as the Kalamunda boys struggled to find their range on the slow and narrow carpet. Geoff White was on top of Neil Griffin and Nigel rees at two was playing terrific draw bowls - the battle up front between good mates Johhn Morss and Darren Lyons was all square with both players probably disppointed with their impact on the rink.
From 13-2 up though the Millers took their foot off the gas and the Kalamunda rink led by their skipper edged their way back into the contest. It eventually came down to the wire, with the Millers two up on the board but one down on the end with the last bowl to be played. Griffin had to draw a tough second or play onto a short bowl to promote it about four feet for the critical second and a draw.
A super bowl promoted it, but only a metre to allow the Millers to regain a crucial point. The Kalamunda boys would be well pleased with their fightback which went a long way to securing the aggregate.
Nic Reagan vs Billy Brandsma
Again the Millers snuck away early, but a determined fightback saw a seesawing battle over the final ten ends - with the Millers seemingly with a two shot buffer for much of the closing ends. And so it proved to be with the South Perth side prevailing by two shots. Nic Reagan\'s rink has been outstanding this season had confirmed their place as a leading Premier Division rink and vital to the South Perth make up - without them relagation would be kicking the door down.
Where to from here ? For the Millers a dangerous slide with a string of losses sees relegation raise its ugly head. More importantly confidence which has been a reason for some bold showing this year is down - perhaps the pressure of the first season in the big league is beginning to tell. I know the Club has called for compulsory mid week training for the balance of the year, and perhaps some belief can be restored there. For the Kalamunda team two big wins on the trot has them riding high and with Melville and Bedford to come, the next fortnight will determine their season (and probably indirectly the Millers).

VICTORIA PARK REDS 98 (8) def BEDFORD BULLS 60 (0)
Victoria Park were the favourites for this game and that is how they played. The Bedford Bulls were generally behind the 8 ball for all of the game and never challenged at any stage as a 16.
The Reds played some awesome bowls today and showed Bedford how much of a gap there is between the bottom and the top in the Premier League.
Another feature of the Reds is the feeling and team unity that is on display, plenty of noise at the right time, plenty of encouragement when required. This 16 will be hard to beat for the flag on their display today
J. Mitchell (sk), C. McNeil, E. Martin, D. Patterson--------.-----20
D. Scott (sk) N. Minchin, J. Gupanis, J. Winship----------------17
A good close game here for new skip Dave Scott. The game looked all over for his rink when the score was 6/15 down on the 11th end and then going 9/15, 9/16, 9/18 on the 14th end, then they started their run to climb back into contention
By end 19 it was 16/18 down and a big chance for a win. However Jeff Mitchell and his rink steadied to win 20/17.
Jeff Mitchell played some big bowls for his side while the two leaders slugged it out with perhaps the "BigShip" John Winship just edging out Daniel Patterson.
Dave Scott gave a good first up performance as a skipper.

This game was always in the bag for Rhett Butlers rink or so it seemed. At end 11 his rink led 16/6 then had to withstand a fight back from Cliff's boys to lead 17/12 on the 16th end. From there on it was Rhett Butlers rink who won the lions share of the ends and shots.

This is the game I got to see for the most part, I didn't mark the game as I might do on occasions.
I arrived at the third end and the score was 7/2 in favour of Roosters rink courtesy of picking up a 6 on the first end. From there till the 11th end this was a very high standard game of bowls with both sides at it hammer and tongs producing several great heads and some great shot play to convert when down.
The leaders Geoff Hiskens and Peter Hunter were playing terriffic bowls with Geoff Hiskens marginally in front, Dave Florence was the better of the seconds while Paul Hunter saved his side on several occasasions with some telling bowls.
Both skips, Rooster and Brue Fullagar were generally in the business area with their bowls.
From this 12th end on it was the end for the Bruce and his rink as Rooster and his team put their foot down and took off. Geoff Hiskens continued on his merry way with a superb exihibition of leading while Dave Florence was playing a good seconds role. Thomas Mitchell came into the game strongly with some clever play and Rooster Wishart played some bombs saving a 4 then followed up coverting a 1 down to a four up trailing the jack 2ft to waiting bowls.
Bedford just didnt have the answers to go with this rink, who on that performance would have nothing to fear who ever they played.
Victoria Park Reds won 13 ends to Bedford 8 ends
---------------Best Player in this game was Geoff Hiskens pictured here
---------------------
Geoff Hiskens played a mighty game today and set up this win with his outstanding leading, the rest of the team followed suit backing up his wonderful display
These Bedford Lady supporters yelled and screamed for their team but even with this fantastic support they couldn't get the boys across the line against the Reds today

CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 86 (7 ) def COCKBURN ROOSTERS 76 (1)
Cambridge came to play today, 3 rinks turned on full power to put a dent and some distance between them and the Roosters on the Premiership table, then to rub salt into the wound Cambridge were the first side to beat Cockburn on Cockburn grass this season, the Roosters had not been beaten at home before today's game.
The usual Cockburn breeze didn't arrive today and the game was played in very good bowling conditions.
The big feature of this match was two of the four rinks clashes provided huge scores. Daniel Brown smashed Brian Katunarich's rink while the Jones Boy and his rink really gave it to Matt Kurta who's star appears to be on the wane,
T.Smallacombe (sk) N. Lewis,W. Maher, B. Kiely ----------------19
L. Strahan (sk) S.Cerff, J. Ravlich, P. Kastropil-------------------13
Trystan Smallacombe's rink continued on their merry way with a solid win against the well performed rink of Lance Strahan, Trystan and his rink are still the best performed rink in W.A and lead the way for the Knights.
Best Players in this game were
Brian Kiely, Lance Strahan and Wayne \'Wally\' Maher.
The Jones Boy (sk) T. Walsh, N. Bolton, R. Bolton.---------------32
M. Kurta(sk), D. Penman, M.Zusman, S.West ----------------.----14
The word to come from the Cockburn players is the Jones Boy was awesome today, He has a habit of playing at his top on Cockburn grass. The rinks win of course was against quality opposition and played a major role in the Knights victory
R. Stockton (sk) A. Heal, G. Kane, H. Christensen----------------25
S. Srhoy (sk),J. Galipo, I. Jakovich,S. Vassallo----------------.---14
This is another telling win for Ron Stockton's rink who have recovered well after a poor start to the season.
B. Katunarich (sk) M. McGann,J.Mobilia, D.Irvin------- --.------10
D. Brown (sk) L. Richardson,, M. Sokol, P. Novak--------------.--35
All Cockburn players in this rink were well and truly switched on for this game and served it up to Brian Katunarich's rink. Daniel Brown had an out standing game and the rink almost got the aggregate for the Roosters.
The continued non performance of the rink led by Brian Katunarich could cost the Cambridge 16 a Premiership and it would be sad to see the efforts of the other 12 Cambridge players go down the drain.
OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 92 (8) def MELVILLE MAGIC 50 (0)
Inspired by John Goddard's performance in winning the state singles, Osborne Park jumped out to an early lead, and kept its foot firmly on the throttle throughout the afternoon.
John Goddard continued his scintillating form from the state singles, and after 9 ends his reshuffled rink was 20-1 up on the hapless Fleay side.
Gary Caffell's rink had also asserted its authority over Steve Hughes to be 10 shots up after 9 ends.
The other rinks were close, so the Saints had the aggregate comfortably in the bag after 40 ends, leading by 32 shots.
For the second game in a row, with the aggregate sealed early for the Saints, the interest was in whether they would allow the opposition to snare any points. Unfortunately for Melville, the Trewhella & Jaworski rinks were relentless, and eventually closed out their games, giving the Saints full points, and pushing Melville even closer to relegation.
PS
Word round Osborne Park is that John Goddard is now going for a unique double this season - winner of both the state singles and the club singles PLATE!! (having lost his first game in the club singles 2 weeks ago)

DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 90 (6.5) def WANNEROO EXPRESS 73 (1.5)
The PowerHouse had to fight hard on three rinks but the rink of Dennis Katunarich carried the day for Doubleview with a 15 shot victory against the Wanneroo Wizard's rink. This win keeps the PowerHouse on top of the ladder while the loss for Wanneroo has made it hard. The club has a good list but is not quite up to the task of repeating their fabulous Premiership victory a couple of years ago.
