A huge performance by Osborne Park Saints see them bury the Cockburn Roosters.
There were some strange results in the rink scores. One in particular was that of Matt Kurta who lost by 21 shots

Victoria Park Reds hammer the Sth Perth Millers in a vital game for both clubs. Close neighbours they might be but that was as close as the Reds would let the Millers get today.

Wanneroo Express get out of jail again, while Bedford will be spitting chips losing a game they should have won. Wanneroo show that they will not make the finals when they struggled to get the points against a vibrant Bedford Bulls

Cambridge Knights win up on the hill but the scoreline was good for the Kalamunda 16 as every point is vital.

Doubleview win but what an effort by two rinks for for the Magic. The PowerHouse draw on two rinks

-------------Sean Wright and Russell Bates get their bowls away in unison

OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 81 (7) def COCKBURN 67 (2)

Gordon King was a late call off for the Saints, suffering from 4 fractured vertebrae - the first game of pennants Gordon has missed for 26 years. Daniel Guelfi, who had been unlucky to miss out on selection the week before, stepped into his place, and played another fine game for his side.

From the outset the Saints were determined to put the early pressure on the Roosters, and Daniel Trewhella's rink jumped out to a good lead over newly promoted skip, Joe Gallipo. Gary Caffell's four also built up a handy lead over Matt Kurta. It was left to the old warhorse Steve Srhoy to steady the ship for Cockburn. He was in outstanding form, converting at will, and with his third Danny Penman pitching in with a number of bombs, his rink was able to cover the lead built up by the Trewhella four.

It wasn't that John Goddard's team was playing badly - it was just being out-muscled by a determined Srhoy. New Saints skip James Jaworski was having a close tussle with Daniel Brown, so the difference in the aggregate was down to the Caffell - Kurta clash.

Here the Ossie Park rink gradually took control of the game. They were playing well as a team, always having bowls in the head, allowing Caffell to play the big conversion shots when necessary. Kurta and his third Gary Carberry weren't having the best of luck, but were being gradually worn down by the constant need to chase shots. By the 60th end the Saints had built up a 20 shot lead on the aggregate - a lead they were determined not to surrender.

Despite their best efforts, Cockburn couldn't close the gap over the final ends, and were still 20 down with 4 ends to play. The interest was in which side would win the rink point in the Jaworski - Brown clash. Jaworski led by 3 shots with 2 ends to play, but dropped a 3 to go into the last end all square.

The Saints then held the early advantage, but Richardson drove the jack into the ditch, to leave Cockburn holding 2. Jaworski was unable to change things, and Brown added 2 more to give the Roosters a valuable second point. A great win for the Saints against an in form Cockburn, which keeps it very interesting in the fight for the top 4 spots on the ladder.

This game was so important for the Saints if they were to hang in there for a spot in the final four. A loss would have been disastrous for them.Cockburn faced some difficulties with top skip Lance Strahan not being available.

The changes werent the best for Cockburn

The rink of Daniel Brown nailed the rink of James Jaworski on his home ground tells us they are back in town. James Jaworski is doing well and it won't take long for him and his rink to break through for that first win

An almost unbeleivable scoreline in this game. I saw John Goddard and his rink in action last week and they were so very good. Steve Srhoy also won at Osborne Park last year and gave Gary Caffell's rink a bath winning 32/7. There must be something about Osborne Park greens that Steve and his boys like because that makes it 62/ 17 over two games . A mighty effort by Steve Srhoy and his rink and if they make the final, Osborne Park greens would be just what the doctor ordered for he and his rink.

Lets take nothing away from Gary Caffell and his rink, it is a good solid rink and can go with any in the competition. This is a great win for Gary and his boys and will hopefully from here something they will be able to build on.

Justin Coleman Osborne Pk (pictured) quality leader and all smiles after the big win against Matt Kurta

Steve West from reports recieved were that he led well . Matt Kurta is not available to play next week because of a previous arrangement.

Well they said it was the Daniel Trewhella show today with him destroying anything that Cockburn front end produced. It is a timely reminder of his ability.

VICTORIA PARK REDS 96 (7) def SOUTH PERTH MILLERS 50 (1)

The Vic Park Reds played like premiership contenders against a lack lustre South Perth Millers with a comprehensive win on three rinks.

Wishart vs Reagan
The well performed rink of Nic Reagan was never in the hunt against an inform Vic Park front end with Geoff Hiskins and Dave Florence, setting up a commanding early lead. The unusually slow Vic Park green proved a real problem for the Millers with too many short bowls making it difficult to save or convert for the visitors. Tom Mitchell and Graham Wishart added where required with South Perth having to run often, playing for luck which never arrived. A resounding victory.

J Mitchell vs Walker
The scoreline sounds like a thumping - and it was - but with only 30 odd shots over the 21 ends the game was perhaps one of the Millers just not being able to get the vital bowl in early. Young Darryl Stewart continues to play well as leader for the Millers but his efforts were in vain as the Reds were far stronger as a team with Charlie McNeil in particular on fire early and jeff Mitchell growing in confidence every end. Scotty Walker had a day to forget but lacked genuine support and it\'s back to the drawing board and a rethink for the Millers.

Butler vs Bresland
A tight affair all day with Rhett Butler kicking clear early with some terrific personal shot making to lead 6-1. From here Ross Bresland dragged his team back into the game, with Joe Cunningham getting the upper hand in the leaders duel against Greg Faulkner. In the end an important point for the Millers in a hard fought contest.

Hughes vs Pride
An early lead to the Millers 8-5 quickly disappeared as Russell Hughes side found their range. Fourteen of the next fifteen shots went to the Reds and that was that. Greg Quann and Tom Antonio split the honours up front, but it was all Vic Park in the back three with consistent draw bowls and the occasional touch of Russell Hughes brilliance sealing the deal. In the end the Millers simply ran out of answers and the Vic Park four built on each end to record a more than comfortable win.

Overall a very disappointing result for the Millers who this week travel to Ossie Park in a tough follow up, before a huge game at home to Kalamunda in Round 11. A tough week for the selectors down at South Perth, but the opposite for the Reds whose recruits are more than paying dividends and on this result are again a premiership contender.

Cliff Graybrook had a hard fight on his hands playing against Geoff Ellis it was a tight tussle for the first 13 ends where the score was 8/8. It was from here that the rink broke the shackles winning 6 of the next 7 ends to lead 22/9. There were several good bowls played in this game and one of the standout players was leader Adi Mayer who enjoyed the challenge of leading.

C. Adams (sk) N.Stevens, G.Cox, P.Potts------------------------15
N. Minchin (sk) Paul. Hunter, R. Hamilton, J. Winship
-------21

This was an important game for Bedford with Neil Minchin returning to the skippers role ( a role I hope he accepts for the rest of the season) in place of Paul Hunter who played three and gave his all with a great game today.
This win was more notable because it was this rink of the Wanneroo Wizard who has been the major force at Wanneroo in their previous run of success.
The front end of Wanneroo was beaten today, John 'The BigShip" Winship had the call over State aspirant Phil Potts which will give "the Bigship" a lot of confidence, Rolls Royce Hamilton made a welcome return to the top side and played well by getting some telling Bowls in. Paul Hunter had a great game also leaving the Wanneroo backend with plenty of work to do.
Word was Neil Minchin played a beauty and the Wizard played some bombs under extreme pressure.

The score card went 3/2, 8/3, 9/6, 11/6, 15/6, 15/11, 20/11, 21/15.
Bedford won 11 ends Wanneroo won 10 ends

I got to see about 10 ends of this game and it was a very hard fought game played in very trying conditions caused by the strong crosswind. Stuart Banbridge's rink from the 10 end on were leading 13/8 and generally were a bowl or two in front of Stein Davies boys. It alway was the case a Bedford bowl would be the shot from either leads, second or third providing that shot.
All was rosey for the Bedford foursome at end 14 when they led 18/8 and from there on it was their turn to be in hard positions as Murray Halbert produced some bombs from the second position
The leaders were having a good tussle and I must congratulate D. Moore on his first ever game in the Premier League and he did a good job for his side because there was nothing between the leaders. Bruce Fullagar was having a hard time of it between end 10 and 14 but from there on played a good game.
I had not seen the first 10 ends and the word is Bruce played well
Ted Alden was not at his top today but still got a few good ones in while Jim Gupanis played some beauties at various stages of the game
Stein Davies fought long and hard to help his rink to manage this draw while Stu Bainbridge was not at his very best but played a major part in his rinks performance

WOW!!! wham bamb and thankyou Ma'am. This was a terrific performance by the Ron Bates led rink and their performance is the reason Wanneroo are taking home 5.5 points. This is as big as it gets in terms of winning a game.
Ron Bates had many fine bowls throughout the match and was at his best when ever he was confronted with being down on the crossover. I was lucky enough to see several of these bowls and he left no doubt as to his ability.
John Carter, Simon Alden who has returned to the side recently and Russ Bates were just too good today for their opponents were pretty happy fellahs after the game knowing their effort has kept Wanneroo in with a chance to make the finals.

Mel Lemos has just returned top the side after injury and then found himself in the skippers role after several changes caused by players being unavailable.
