January 5, 2008
The clash of the heavyweights, Cambridge Knights and the Osborne Park Saints turned out to be just that. The Knights were brave and and the Saints were bowled. It was a great atmosphere at Cambridge and the teams played accordingly
Cockburn Roosters revel in the wind with a good win against the Victoria Park Reds. It does seem they have recaptured that meaness they are renowned for. So from now on it is welcome back to the MeanMachine
The PowerHouse were just too powerful for a determined Millers 16 --6.5 points is a good dividend as the powerHouse inflict the second loss at the home on the Millers
The Melville bar will remain open till 12:00 midnight to celebrate their first win of the season when they crushed the life out of a listless Bulls 16. Melville have been knocking on the door but no one expected them to go thru it with a bulldozer
Wanneroo Express in a must win game turn it on in windy conditions to register their first 8 pointer for the season sending Kalamunda back up the hill to contemplate the rest of the season
Tony Walsh showing plenty of interest as to where his bowl will finish, Ian Payne getting ready to bowl

CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 80 (7) def OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 76 (1)
This was a very important game for both sides. Bill Galloway I doubt has ever played as a second in the Premier League, James Jaworski was making his debut as a skipper. Chris Lander was not available for Cambridge.
To me the Saints were the logical favourites considering the loss of Chris Lander and the inclusion of James Jaworski for Osborne Park.
Well fear not because Cambridge played brilliantly in very hard windy conditions while Bill Galloway played a great game as a two for the Saints.
T.Smallacombe (sk) N. Lewis,W. Maher, B. Kiely --------------------24
J. Jaworski(sk) G. Evans, , F. DiGuiseppe, P. Ker---------------------19
This was the first game as skip for James Jaworski and what a welcome to have to play the second top rink in the Premier League
Trystan and his rink were always in control of this game which was played in very difficult windy conditions.
I was unable to see any of this game other than to note the scores which went in favour of T.S, 6/5, 13/6, 15/10, 21/10, 21/17, 24/19.
The Jones Boy (sk) T. Walsh, G. Leeks, R. Bolton.--------------------12
J. Goddard (sk) I., Payne, B. Galloway, D. Appleton.-----------------22
This is the game I got to watch tho I did miss the first three ends. John Goddard and his rink won in all positions today. Bearing in mind it was very windy the leaders Dave Appleton and Ross Bolton weren't exactly on fire in the early part, it was about halfway thru the game where Dave Appleton really came into the game producing plenty of good leaders bowls from that point on and played a good game. Dave definetly had the call over Ross Bolton in this duel today.
-------------------------Bill Galloway best player for his rink today
----------------------------
Bill Galloway lost his rink this week but that didn't deter him from playing a great seconds game for John Goddard today.
Bill Galloway played a great game as a two, what a luxury to have him playing in this position. Time and again he provided the pressure to force the back half of The Jones Boy onto the backfoot with many a good pair of bowls on the jack Graeme Leeks played his first game in the Premier League and he is worth persevering with. Tho beaten in his position Graeme played some timely bowls throughout the game.
Ian Payne worked hard for his rink and played a very good game as he always seems to do. He produced several telling bowls for his side backing up the handy work of Bill Galloway and Dave Appleton. Tony Walsh was not having a lot of impact on the game and was not able to change things around when down which was often, Tony did play some pretty handy bowls but unfortunetly it was not to be his day however he kept at it and helped to keep the aggregate in Cambridges favour with some timely bowls.
John Goddard is a brilliant skip and that was on display where he always was in the area for his bowls to do something. He was the better skip today with his consistency and draw power
The Jones Boy was generally down on the crossover played many running shots that never did the job he would have liked them to do . No doubt there are better games ahead for his rink which had lost its last two games
R. Stockton (sk) A. Heal, G. Kane, H. Christensen--------------------22
G. Caffell (sk), D. Rankin, G. Nicol, J. Coleman.----------------------14
This game was too far away to see any of it but this is a great victory for Ron and his rink who were always in control . Harold Christensen did the job as lead but it was Ron Stockton who carried on with his State Pairs form and played a creative game with some "Magical shots" . Ron and his new look rink were never in any danger of losing this game
B. Katunarich (sk) M. McGann,C. McKenna,D.Irvin------------------22
D. Trewhella (sk), P. Caffell, G. King, D. Adams.----------------------21
Brian Katunarich and his rink have gone from strength since round five and this win is as big as they come when you can roll the gun rink of Daniel Trewhella. Brian was leading 11/4, 14/6, 15/10, then lost the lead to be 19/21 down with two ends to play. The rink won the next two ends to win the vital point and help save the aggregate.
COCKBURN 96 (6) def VICTORIA PARK REDS 84 (2)
The game of the day between these two sides who have done well to set themsleves up for a tilt a winning the flag. The Reds had to play in the notorious Cockburn wind and that is a challenge in itself. With three of their four rinks on song a win was possible for them. Cockburn needed to consolidate on last weeks win against the PowerHouse, a lose in this game would have undone the good work of last week
D. Brown (sk) L. Richardson, M. Zusman, P. Novak------------31
J. Mitchell (sk), C. McNeil, E.Martin, D. Patterson-------------17
Daniel Brown has hit the jackpot with a huge win over Jeff Mitchell who has now lost his 4th consecutive game. On one end Daniel Brown was holding 7 shots, Jeff Mitchell drew the shot and what a great bowl when under that sort of pressure. Unfortunately for Jeff, Daniel played a perfectly weighted shot that took the shot bowl out and picked up an 8............. Bowls can be cruel at times!!
S. Srhoy(sk), D. Penman, I. Jakovich, S. Vassallo--------------24
R. Butler (sk), K. Beaglehole, S.Knott.G. Faulkner--------.----25
Again we see that no lead is ever safe in Premier League. Rhett Butler and Steve Srhoy locked horns again after a fantasic game they played against one and other in the State Pairs. Steve and his rink were 17/2 in front and were in control. Most would think with such a lead you would not lose. Rhett Butler and his rink won this game 25/24.
M. Kurta(sk), G.Carberry, N. Fitzgerald, M. Sokol--------------12
R. Hughes (sk), R. Gilbert, J. Finlay, G. Quann. ----------------24
Russell Hughes had a great game today as did his front end who won their positions quite easily.
L. Strahan (sk) S.Cerff, M. Illich , J. Galipo----------------------29
G. Wishart(sk), T. Mitchell, D. Florence , G. Hiskens ----------18
Lance Strahan and his rink put an end to the winning run of Rooster Wishart. Lance was down 3/11 early in the game but picked up the next 26 shots to 7 to carreer away to a handsome win.
The word is Lance was the best player afield
WANNEROO EXPRESS 94 (8) def KALAMUNDA 71 (0)
At last !! the Wanneroo Express fire on all four rinks to record an important victory which at least keeps them in the zone for a place in the finals. Kalamunda will feel this loss where they couldnt pick up a single point and are now in a dofight to avoid relegation
Clive Adams rink have maintained their form after setting up the win last week against Melville they have again set up this win for the Express with a handy 14 shot win against Neale Griffin's rink.
Ron Bates's rink had a close game against the hard to beat Billy Brandsma led rink to play an important role in the win for the Express. Stein Davies who played exceptionally well in the State Pairs also had an influence on the result catching the vastly improved Mitch Biglin rink by 4 shots.
The win leaves them in a good position with only Bedford to play to finish the first round. Form suggest a win here for the Express.

DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 80 (6.5) def SOUTH PERTH MILLERS 72 (0)
A good win here to the PowerHouse who were a chance to lose three games straight considering they were on the carpet at SthPerth. The Millers have done well at home this season and a win would not have surprised. Lindsay Thorne said on the radio that The PowerHouse had a lot of respect for the Millers and knew they would be in for a hard game.

MELVILLE MAGIC 112 (8 ) def BEDFORD BULLS 56 (0)
Melville Magic crash thru for their first win of the season and suddenly have givrn themselves a chance of avoiding relegation. This was a huge win and sure to give the battling Magic the impetus for more wins.
Great news for Neville Briely to record his first win for the season and what a win, Cliff Graybrook is usually hard to beat and Neville has done it comfortably with a 27/13 result.
Steve Hughes led rink has been instrumental in the resurgence of the Magic and this is a huge win by them to put new skip Paul Hunter away for a low score of 10 shots.
