November 24 2007
A great round of fixtures today, the grand final replay between the PowerHouse and the Osborne Pk Saints was an exciting contest with the PowerHouse coming from behind to put the Saints down for the count.

There has never been any doubts about the playing ability of the strong 16 the PowerHouse have out on the green these days, now we find the group have fantastic singing ability and would not be out of place singing alongside the Sistine Chapel singing choir.
If any bowlers out there who haven't heard the PowerHouse Club song, let me tell you that it is a fantastic piece of music and I was lucky enough to share in the rendition that was played at their clubhouse after their great victory today. Thanks fellah's, I have got to say I really enjoyed that.

Cockburn show South Perth Millers a thing or two about Premier League with a great win today
Bedford Bulls have continued on from last weeks great effort to beat the highly fancied Kalamunda side
Cambridge don't go all the way today however 7.5 points is a good result for them against the Melville Magic.
The Wanneroo Express stay on song with a telling win against the Victoria Park Reds.

DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE 87 (6) def OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 79 (2)
This was a magnificent victory for the PowerHouse boys who were behind for quite a long period of the game. After 20 ends the master scoreboard saw OP leading 28/16. Then we saw the scores level at 35/35 on end 35.
On end 47 OP led 54/40, this was mainly because of the good work from Bill Galloway's rink who were giving the unbeaten rink of John Slavich a hard time. The Daniel Trewhella led rink was also well in front of Prickles Thorn at this stage......When I left the game the master scoreboard showed OP leading 65/59 on end 65.

This was the game I got to see most of, I was not able to mark the game sitting where I was and knowing that I would be leaving at 4.15 PM.
Daniel Trewhella and his rink got away to a flyer and led 12/2, the rink was on song and left Prickles Thorn with a mountain of work to do. Well he and his rink started to get busy and edged up to make it 8/12 down.

From here on Prickles and his boys started to really fire with Charlie Slavich leading extremely well and was well on top in duel with Paul Fair, Jim Bausor also was playing a great game while Brendon Edwards was playing his first Premier League game but not having a great effect, however he wasn't playing badly and with a few games under his belt could be an asset for the Saints.

Bruce Urquhart was very good and was often where he had to be with his bowls while Pat Caffell would have been disappointed with his game, being short when down and often left his skip with all the work to do. Prickles was going great guns playing a very steady game but the MAN was Daniel Trewhella who was outstanding saving his rink from being slaughtered. Daniel converted on many down situations with his front three owing him bigtime for his work.
On the 11th end Daniel's rink were leading 18/8 but the sheer consistency of the PowerHouse boys with great bowls saw them catch up and when I had to leave after 16 ends had been played the score was 19/18 in favour of DT.
Their effort while I was there was first class and Daniel Trewhella again showed what a great skipper he is.

Bill Galloway's rink were well in front and leading 9/0 after 2 ends had been completed, a comeback from John Slavich's rink saw that reduced to a 10/7 lead for Bill Galloway. from there on it was heavy going for John's rink and they saw the score blow right out to 19/8 down on end 12.
Freddie Di Guiseppe leading for Bill Galloway had an outstanding leader's game, and with the the other 3 in the rink contributing regularly, the PowerHouse backend was always under pressure.

A teriffic game between thse two rinks and from what I was able to see of the game the standard was enormous. On many occasions the furtherest bowl in the head was a metre away from the jack. It was tight on the scoreboard Gary Cafffell led 5/0 on end 3, 10/9 on the 10th end 12/11 on the 15th from here on it was Jon Sharp who hit the lead to be 16/12 on the 18th end............

WANNEROO EXPRESS 84 (6) def VICTORIA PARK REDS 63 (2)

Neville Steven is the toast of the town at Wanneroo He and the rink of Ron Bates, John Carter and Russ Bates blew Rooster Wishart's rink right out of the game and ensured victory for the Express. Two big wins in a row by Neville has given the Wanneroo club a lot to look forward to in the coming games.
A break thru win by Stein Davies was another telling point in this victory. It their foirst win for the season and it is hard to believe it has taken this long into the season for this win. The Stein Davies led rinks has been one of the mainstays for the past 2/3 years and boasts a fair bit talent.
In what has been a surprise to bowls watchers is the great performance of The Jeff Mitchell led rink which remains undefeated after 4 games, they along with Russell Hughes's rink are the mainstay so far for the Reds this season.
The win by the Express was expected, especially at home but it has become more clear as to where Vic Park are at. They will battle to make the four and appear to be about a rink short in depth

COCKBURN ROOSTERS 107 (7) def SOUTH PERTH MILLERS 81 (1)
Cockburn won as most thought they would, by having to many aces in the pack for the Millers.

Match report:

Cockburn were too strong overall for the South Perth Millers with Ken Pride copping a good old fashioned flogging from Daniel Brown, Ross Bresland going down by 10 against Lance Strachan, Matt Kurta pipping Nic Regan in a last end thriller in a quality game of bowls, with Scotty Walker getting hold of Steve Shroy for South Perth's point.

In a poor start the Millers dropped 10 shots on the first end and in hindsight the aggregate was as good as over as Cockburn continued to build a commanding lead by the halfway mark. Daniel Brown was having a field day leading 36-1 just after around 15 ends and a 50 badge looked the goods until they naturally perhaps relaxed and cruised home for a crushing win. On the other hand Scott Walker's rink with Bob Bandy continuing his great form kicked clear of Steve Shroy and on any other day could have carried the aggregate - nevertheless a very valuable point away.

Ross Bresland and Lance Strachan fought out a see-sawing match with Lance's big driving perhaps the difference, often cleaning out the oppositions bowls to win or save the end. Chasing late numbers for the point Bresland's rink were probably hard done in losing by 10. Geoff White again played well for the Millers with the Cockburn skipper a main difference. Frank Carbone had a day he would rather forget as Bresland's two. After cutting a finger in the morning in a gardening accident (serves you right Frank !) the wound reopened during the game unexpectedly with pools of blood adding another colour to the Cockburn grass.
At least the flies left the other 31 players alone for the rest of the game.

The final match was a beauty with Matt Kurta and Nic Reagan bowling some bombs. The second last end saw Reagan trail the kitty for four and being only up on the board things were grim for Matt Kurta but a perfect draw for shot saw the last end all square. The kitty was moved about a few times and with Reagan needing to draw shot to about 12 inches he twice missed by millemetres to lose a game that was deserving of a half point each.

The next three weeks will tell the tale of the Millers year, with Wanneroo at home, followed by Melville at home and Bedford away.

CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS 98 (7.5 ) def MELVILLE MAGIC 59 (.05)

As expected the Cambridge Knights won this game, I thought the Magic might have been a little closer on the scoreboard.
The new recruit The Jones Boy and his rink have continued on with their excellent form remaining undefeated after a huge win against the winless rink of Neveille Briely. A thing that is becoming common these days is that the leader Ross Bolton went thru the entire game without putting the jack down once for his rink.

Trystan Smallacombe's rink do the job again for the Knights with a handy 10 shot win against Colin Fleay and also remains undefeated.
Ron Stockton's rink won their second game for the season aginst Kiran Cousins's rink. This is what the Knight would be looking for and will be hoping for a continuation of their form into harder contests that await them in the coming games.

Steve Hughes skippering his first game for the Magic for sometime managed to get half a point against Brian Katunarich could remain in the skippers role in games to come.

BEDFORD 87 (7) def KALAMUNDA 68 (1)

Kalamunda who were warm favourites to win this game have stumbled badly. Bedford Bulls have confounded the critics winning their last two games and taking huge strides to avoid relegation.
Bruce Fullagar bought up his first win a skipper and what a win, bringing to an end the winning streak of Neil Payne

Cliff Graybrook has won his last three games including this win over Neale Griffin, who from earlier reports had been in tip top form. The big change in fortunes for Cliff Graybrook has been the inclusion of Jim Gupanis playing as his third. Cliff Graybrook\'s team of Jim Gupanis, Peter Healy and Neil Watson certainly had the wood over Neil Griffin\'s Kalamunda team on Saturday. They got away slowly, tailing 4 - 8 after 7 ends. But then they really put their foot down, winning the next ten ends in succession to well and truly wrap up the match.

Stu Bainbridge continues to lead the charge for the Bulls has bought up another win this time geting hold of Billy Brandsma's rink

Last weeks hero Paul Hunter, with a revamped side due to the absence of Neil Minchin was no match for the ever improving Mitch Biglin who after 4 games has now won 3 games which is as many games won as last season when he skipped on 14 occasions
