A total of 448 lawn bowlers are scheduled to play on carpet for finals.

I raised the possibility very early in the season that lawn bowls may be threatened and all finals should be played on the grass.

With our new promotion system, each 2nd placed club colured in red is hosting the finals and all games are played on carpet.

Calling the game Lawn Bowls is a common fallacy - particularly among the older generation (my apologies Observer and Sherro!, and Bowlers who have never read the Laws of the Game.

It is at least ten years since we in Australia have played a game called Lawn Bowls.

The Laws of the Game (since at least at least July 1998) make absolutely no mention of lawn.

Law 2 of the Laws of Game of Bowls in Australia (July 1998) define the green: ... shall be rectangular, have a suitable level playing surface and shall be provided with suitable boundaries ...

Law 2.4 of the Laws of the Sport of Bowls (September 2006) - the Laws under which we currently play the Game - define the green ... The playing surface should be either vegetation or a synthetic surface approved by a Member National Authority.
