Round 15 Premier division Click here to return to Pennant Scene

February 24, 2007
What a day for Lawn Bowls in the Premier division and what a day for the bottom sides as they show they are fighting hard to avoid relegation
Three sides in the four were beaten by sides below them. The biggest winner of the losers, Bedford who came home with 1.5 points went out of the four for the first time this season. The Osborne Park Saints unbelievably went down to Leeming 0/8. The Saint have now been involved with an 2/6 ,8/0, 0/8 result in their last three games. They have lost a valuable opportunity to cement them selves into the four.
Melville Magic let a chance slip past them to consolidate their place in the four when the inconsistent Cambridge Knights turned on a match winning display.
We have has a sensational round of pennant fixtures today. Leeming in a boil over against the Osborne Park Saints winning 8/0.
Cockburn went into the four for the first time this season and look almost certain to be a contender for the Premiership. next couple of games will determine for certain if they will be .
Wanneroo have a let off in as much that the three sides above them lost. Today was one of their worst days for The Wanneroo Express after being derailed by the PowerHouse. As we have said they are lucky that the three side above them also were derailed.

Cambridge Knights were terrific in their win against the Melville Magic winning 7/1
Kalamunda have struck again beating the Bedford Bulls 6.5/1.5

The PowerHouse accounted for the Wanneroo Express 7/1

Three of the sheets below are full time scores

Kalamunda lived up to their previous form to defeat the Bedford Bulls in a must win game for both Clubs.
This win was set up Mitch Biglan and his rink who won their first game for the season after 9 losses. I can imagine how he would feel with his first ever win as a skipper. Kalamunda have shown great faith to stick with him.
Stu Banbridge's rink have had an outstanding year to date lost by an unusually high margin.
Neil Payne and his rink have been very competitive these last 6/7 games and his rink have again won by the barest margin against Pieter Harris's rink .
Bedford welcomed back Lance Strahan to the team and was their only winner while the Jones Boy scrambled a draw against another rink for Kalamunda That of Billy Brandsma who has been performing very well of late and is now Kalamunda's best performed rink.

The rink of Steve Srhoy has had an enormous win against the "GoKart" Urquhart, we don't often see wins of this size and when they do happen, often you will see Steve Srhoy's name associated with the win. At one stage the score was 41/1. It did seem to be that "GoKart" just couldn't get out of the pitts today and it is amazing how the form of this rink has fallen away to this extent.

However when we look at the scores of the other rinks Morley can be pretty happy with their effort. They would never have been given much chance to win the game anyway.
Russell Hughes had a ding dong go with Peter Aungier and had the game under control but lost a 5 on the last end and it does show that the Morley boys are the real deal
Gary Carberry must be wondering how could his rink defeat Ant Provost last week and not beat Bruce Walter's rink this week. This is 3 straight for Bruce after losing his first 5 games
Daniel Brown and his boys have come to the party for Cockburn and what a difference to the the team they have made after a dismal start to the season .
Wayne Neilson has kept to his word on his return to calling the shots that they would be having a red hot crack every game to ensure a Morley victory.
Apart from the big win on one rink, Cockburn will need to do better than today's effort if Morley can get that close to them at Cockburn

Everyone would have tipped the PowerHouse and what they would not have tipped is the absolute smashing Wanneroo recieved. I cant remember a more telling loss for Wanneroo. A loss of this size would indicate that the Express have run out of steam and cannot be taken to be serious contenders for another tilt at the title.

Winton Langdon Doubleview (pictured) involved in the huge win today against Clive Adams

Clive Adams copped his worst defeat for sometime, this was courtesy of Robbie Ball's rink and one could ask how could a Wanneroo rink lose by a margin such as this at home with so much at stake ?

Dennis Katunarich got across the line against Neville Stevens rink by a small margin while Kyle McIlroy defeated Geoff Ellis with a handy size winning margin.
The Sunday Times has this score wrong
Stein Davies has taken on the hard rink at the PowerHouse and come up trumps.
On most occasions the Davies led rink is hard at it and the win here is a good win considering who they were up against. The Sunday Times has this score wrong

Cambridge have caused another major upset in the 15th round of pennants with their win against the Melville Magic
The win was set up by Scott Edmonds rink who have continued on with their form from the Bedford game where Scotty was the best player. One highlight during the game was a conversion shot by Jon Sharp who was 6 down and drove at the head to make it 5 shots up.
Ron Stockton rink have continued on with their winning ways beating Rhett Butler in a hard fought win
The big news of the game is that Trystan Smallacombe defeated the Anthony Provost led rink,
which incidentley has been changed again for the umpteenth time this season. This was a most important win for Trystan Smallacombe and his rink to overcome W.A's leading rink.

Cameron Girvan and his rink were the only winners and Cameron has given good value to the Magic over the past two seasons beating Brian Katunarich by one shot.

This win by the bottom side, Leeming is the biggest of the big boilovers so far this season.
To take 8 points away from this game with their ever changing rinks in an endevour to find the right combinations against Premiership contenders the O. P Saints was so unexpected and we have to give the Leeming boy a huge plus for the commitment to make the other sides in the competition take them more seriously.
The game was close scorewise but overall it was good win by Leeming.

Jimbo Connor has his first win in the Premier division, he has had a draw and 6 losses. This is the third loss in the last four games for Bill Galloway's rink.
The big surprise is the win of R. Ryder who inflicted a loss on Gary Caffell who is skipper of the second best perfomed rink in the competition.
Danny Comrie has won again and his rink continues to shine for Leeming. The win against John Goddard's rink was by one shot, the rink continues to show the way and is the best rink at Leeming.
The win won't stop Leeming from being demoted but it will be interesting to see if they can continue on and throw a spanner in the owrks and provide another upset or two in the remaiming games.
What can we say about the Saints, 2/6 drubbing from Morley, 8/0 win against Bedford, and today 0/8 from Leeming.
