Round 11 Premier division Click here to return to Pennant Scene

January 20, 2007
The PowerHouse crunch their way to the top with a good win against the Saints and are now alone at the top of the hill

Cockburn Roosters are not done with just yet as they take on the knights and take the big end of the points in a winner take all game.

Bedford win as expected against Morley who were good up till the halfway mark

Wanneroo Express are in a hurry after being labeled as performing above themselves to win the Premiership last season. A very unfair remark from some one who should know better.
If a team win the games they have to win, how!! pray tell has a team performed above it self. Surely winning their last nine games consecutively wasn't luck !!!!!!!!!

The Magic win their game and get all the points against Leeming as they should do.

There are three happy clubs this weekend after Sherro has tipped them to win,
The Saints and The Knights lose.

BEDFORD BULLS (7) def MORLEY (1 ) ......94/65

Word came to Bedford this morning fairly late that Lance Strahan was unable to play because of illness.
The Bulls have been plain unlucky regarding young Lance who earlier missed two games because of weddings and now this illness. I guess everybody is hoping that Lance will be able to play with out further absence from the side.

Daniel Wood filled in again as skipper and has once again provided the goods. Will Lance regain his place as skip is a question that has been floated around?

This was a game most expected the Bulls to win which did not include the loss of Lance, against a team of goers from Morley. For a while there wasn't much between the sides except for The Jones Boy and his rink who were carrying the aggregate with a huge lead over John Armstrong. The game panned out in favour of Bedford winning

R. Urquhart (skip), J. Heiden, B. Driscoll, A. Elmer ------ --.------------.22

Bedford's leading rink takes on Robbie "goKart" Urquhart who has the best rink at Morley. One could not wish for a better game in this match.
All was even up till the fourth end at 4/4 each. From there on "goKart" and his rink shot away to lead 17/6 on the 14th end. There was a lot of dead ends with the Morley boys driving extremely well when there was any trouble in the camp.
Time for the Bulls to get serious and get back into the game and this they did to be 13/17 down on the 17th end having and a sniff of victory in the air.
However Robbie and his boys were not going to surrender their earlier good work and ran out winners.

After the game Robbie said that the Bedford greens today were the best he had played on in years and years and to please give the green keeper his compliments for producing a green of this standard to play on.
Robbie ! Sherro is sure the greens staff will be happy to receive a compliment like this.

Morley won 12 ends Bedford won 9 ends.

Best Players were
Morley skipper Robbie "goKart" Urquhart
Bedford Skipper Stu Bainbridge

D. Wood (sk) S. Shaw  (skip), G.Hill,   P.Healy-----------------------------25
B. Walter (skip), J. Heiden, K.Holland, G. Cobby --- ---------------------.18

A last minute decision saw Daniel Wood promoted from second to skipper to replace Lance Strahan and Greg Hill come into the side after being dropped to One Blue to make up the rest of the team.
The move had immediate effect and we saw the rink shoot out to a very handy 11/2 and it was zippity dodah day for the rink.
Hmm I guess one thing in bowls is that when things are down for any rink there is generally only one way to go when you are down and that is UP UP UP and away because the Morley Boys did come back and come back hard to be 12/12 all at the 13th end. The game was a hard fought affair with some outstanding bowls played by all players.
From here on Bedford held the fort against some pretty good play by Morley to edge away to be 20/18 at the 19th end and then power away over the last three ends to win the game

Bedford won 11 ends to Morley 10 ends.

Best player for Bedford was Skipper Daniel Wood.
Best player for Morley was Bruce Walter.

P. Harris (skip), C. Gray brook, B. Donovan,, M. Le mos,--.----------------24
P. Aungier (skip) J Sheridan , A. Baron, M. Calcutta ------------------.----12

This was a hard game for Sherro to mark so I will get it out of the way early, my dear bro was playing in this game and because he is my Bro he got the three Brownlow medal votes.

OK this was a hard fought game and we look at the scores and see that Bedford are leading 7/5 at the 9th end. The Morley leader Mark Callcott was in front and winning the all important leaders duel against Mel Lemos. However all his good work was being undone by the Bulls second Bob Donovan who was playing a gem of a game as second and made it easier for the players following him. Cliff Gray brook was going well and was on top in his position playing to a winning head and was able to respond when down where as John Sheridan was almost always down and not able to change the scenery..
Peter Harris played a nice game and always had his bowls around where he would like them to be while Peter Aungier was confronted with being down on most occasions.

------------------------------Just who has got the shot here

-------------------------

End 13 saw the Bulls in front 12/7 and still going great guns was Bob Donovan who was dominating during this period where the leaders had a null effect on the game, Bedford were well and truly on top of the opposition with Pieter Harris playing a great game. On this end Peter Aungier played a bomb of a bowl to convert a five down to a one up with a brilliant weighted bowl to help keep the dominance of Bob Donovan and Pieter Harris in check. If he missed with this important bowl the game was as good as over. Up till this point of the game Peter Aungier made two great conversions. One from a 4/5 down to 1 up and 5 down to 1 up. Pieter Harris was never in such difficulty.

The next five ends saw Morley fight hard with Mel Lemos gradually wear his opponent down and almost level the battle they were having. Allan Barron had played plenty of good ends and was most competitive but his good work would be bought undone by Cliff Graybrook.
From this end on Bedford were all over the jack with the Morley back half in trouble trying to rescue the situation.

Leaders Mel Lemos and Mark Callcott broke even after Mark won the first half
Seconds Bob Donovan won his position against Allan Barron, Allan was not disgraced but Bob had a great game.
Thirds Cliff Graybrook had the better of the thirds position while John Sheridan was down on most occasions when he got on the mat.
Skips Pieter Harris played to a winning head and responded to all the difficult situations when required. Over all he played a great game but generally was never in much difficulty
Peter Aungier had a far harder job than Pieter and did play some great bowls but the weight of being down on many occasions told on him.

Bedford won 11 ends Morley won 10

-------------------Bob Donovan played a brilliant game in the two spot

-----------------------------

Best players
3. Bob Donovan had a pearler of a game from the seconds spot.

2. Cliff Graybrook paved the way for his skipper with a more than handy game.

1. Pieter Harris. All the work was done by the time Pieter had to bowl.
Pieter Harris played a terrific game and what was impressive was his magnificent weight control, he must be close to the best player in the competition for weight control.
When he had to do his thing, he did it so well either on the draw or the drive but generally he was never in much trouble on the crossovers.

The Jones Boy (skip), C.Graybrook, Paul Hunter, V.Colley---------.---31
J. Armstrong(skip), G. Grieve, M.Robinson, B. Urquhart ----------..---13

The Jones Boy and his rink get one back. After the last two games it was on the cards that the Jones Boy was going to collect someone soon and today was the day. After suffering two of the biggest losses in his short career. he played a great game today along with his boys to set up a most important win for the Bulls.
They led 14/0 on the 7th end then pushed it to 28/4 on the 15th end to finally win 31/13

Bedford won 14 ends Morley won 7

Best for Bedford was The Jones Boy.

DOUBLEVIEW POWERHOUSE (7) DEF OSBORNE PARK SAINTS (1)..............84/65

R Ball,(skip) B Urquhart, C Slavich, W Langdon
--------------- -----.-----22
D. Trewhella (skip), Pat Caffell J. Tyrer, S. Wattleworth
...........---........19

A fine win for the Robbie Ball led rink after Daniel Trewhella's rink was leading 16/7 in this game at one stage. Daniel also held a seven on the last end with the jack in the ditch. Robbie Ball had a drive and missed everything then played a sit and stay running shot to cut it back down to two shots to ensure victory. Robbie is the ideal player to have bowl the last bowl in a situation like this.

Charlie Slavich Doubleview (pictured) Has plenty to smile about after his rink came home strongly to snatch victory

D Katunarich, A Delaporte, R Dempsey, J Wholohan -------------------28
Bill Galloway (skip), Ian Payne.G. Nicol, .P. Pendergast
...... --....- ......9

The Kat and his rink are on fire, last week it was the Jones Boy who copped both barrels and this week Bill Galloway is on the recieveing end. There is a lot of fire power in this rink of the Kat's

K McIlroy, P Buller, J. Bausor, G Papadopolous
---------------------------10
Gary Caffell(skip),Wings Evans. G. King, J. Coleman.................... .........18

After seeing this rink in action last week it is hard to beleive they could manage only 10 shots for the game. Still, if you are playing Gary Caffell's rink you will have a game on your hands.
Kyle McIlroy played a great saving game with his drives early on to keep his rink in with a chance. The question is where was the magic of Pat "Bullseye" Buller who could do no wrong last week. I guess it shows that players cant be on top of their game all the time. A surprise omission from the McIlroy rink was that of Gary Nelson who was outstanding last week.

L Thorn, J Slavich, D Slavich, M. Mitchell --------------------------.--------24
J. Goddard (skip),Fred Di Giuseppe C. Guelfi, P. Maynard
.. .....- ...---....19

Lindsay Thorne is getting the best out of his rink and they have continued on with their winning ways, while John Goddard's rink are having a mini slump at the moment.

COCKBURN ROOSTERS (6) DEF CAMBRIDGE KNIGHTS (2) ............. 84/72

S. Srhoy (Skip), A. Petchell, I. Jakovich, S. Vassallio-------------------.22
S.Edmonds (skip) C.Lander,, C.McKenna,G.Kane,---------------.-------14

Steve Srhoy led 15/0 early in the game and had to withstand a strong comeback from Scotty Edmonds to win his 9th game from 11 starts

G. Carberry,(Skip), M. Brown, N.Pascoe, S. West ------------------------12
T.Smallacombe(skip) N.Lewis,N.Bolton,B.Kiely-------.-----..-----------25

Trystan Smallacombe has led the way for the Knights once again but didnt recieve the backup by the other rinks. Gary Carberry is having an up and down season so far.

R. Hughes (Skip), D. Penman , J. Galipo, ? Bancroft, ------------- ------24
R. Stockton (skip) T.Walsh,A.Heal,, H.Christensen--- - -- ------------.-20

Ron Stockton had a very handy buffer and was leading Russell hughes 15/0, for his rink to lose from that lead would have hurt somewhat considering the importance of the game.

D. Brown(sk) M. Zusman , J. Ravilich, S. Novak ---------------------.----26
B.Katunarich (skip) M.McGann, W.Maher, D.Irvin.--------------.------.13

Another fine win to Daniel Brown as he and his rink are starting to gather the form of last season and slowly but surely helping the drive forward in Cockburns quest to make the finals.
The rink Of Brian Katunarich are to0 hot and cold for the Knights to count on in the hard games that have to be won

MELVILLE MAGIC (8) DEF LEEMING (0) ........100/46

A. Provost (skip), Doc Oakley, Steve Hughes , S. Knott ......----.. ...-------.33
W. Heldt (skip) B. West, T. Glendinning, G. Strahan-------.- ---- ----- --0-3
This is a massive win for the Big Ant and his rink. What can be said for Wayne Heldt and his boys; There is always next week fellahs.

Jon Sharp (skip), Bomber Gearing, ? Alexander, John Birch--.---.-------.27
J. Richards (skip), G. Gould, Pemberton, G. Ford----------------------------8
Roger Barns missing from Jon Sharps rink who have a huge win against a disappointing Jeff Richards led rink.

Cam Girvan (skip), B. Mitchell, R. Kennedy, J. Andrew
....--------.--.--....19
R. Ryder (sk) ,J. Connor, G. Dobie, ? Wake -----------------------------..---15
A good win by Cameron Girvan against a rink that has done well under the leadership of R. Ryder

R.Butler (skip) ,Kiran Cousins, C. Fleay, M. Trewhella....-----------.........21
D. Comrie (skip) A.Pryce, ? Morris, ? Caldow -----------------------.-------20

Rhett Butler would be well aware that if you draw the Danny Comrie led rink you are in for a game and that is what he got, winning by the narrowest margin.

WANNEROO EXPRESS (8 ) DEF KALAMUNDA (0) ..............77/66

C.Adams (skip), Russ Bates, Derek Bowen, Gary Cox-
---------------.-----22
N.Payne (skip) G. Payne , P. Nattalotto,M. Douthie------------- ------.----20
Clive Adams rink has been shuffled around once again but has managed to defeat the vastly improved rink of Neil Payne who have shown plenty of determination in their last couple of games

Geoff Ellis (skip),Reg Humphryson , Sean Wright, L. Johnson
------------19
M. Biglan (skip) ,M. Clancy, P. Coyle, F.Anderson- -----------------.-------.18
A great comeback for Mitch Biglan who suffered a very heavy loss last week and to lose by 1 shot to Geoff Ellis is a terrific result

Stein Davies (skip), Ted.Alden, Murray Hulbert, Derrick Griffin----...----17
N.Griffin (skip), E.Martin , R. Eddy ,J. Rollnik

Stein Davies break thru for a handy win in a very tight game after a mid season slump.
