Victoria Park beat
Bedford .......85/ 80...........7 points / 1 points
A
good win to VP, narrow as it was, VP were leading 64/43 at the 55th end and looked
likely to give the visitors a bath. The rink of Rooster wishart leading the way
for VP was simply brilliant, leading 18/6 after 14 ends. The situation was bad
Bedford, with two teams dropping 12 shots up to this point.
Neil Minchin { pictured} show his style.
From this time onward Bedford realized they had to give more to the cause and
plugged away to get within 5 shots of victory. The only thing that really matters
at the end of the day is how many points you get. VP got 7 points and were the
better team on the day, though Bedford sure had their chances.

C. Graybrook {skip}, B.Donovan, R. Rushforth, H. Matsen----22
A great game to watch with the Bedford team dominating proceedings until around
the halfway mark when they dropped a six when the scores were 10/10 all, now being
16/10 down it was always going to be a hard ask for C. Graybrook and his team
to get back from that position. There was a mixture of very good bowls from players
of both sides. As Bedford got back into the game it was most noticeable that the
skippers were having a battle royal, both were most impressive and it really boiled
down to what they did as to determine the result, both would have been happy with
their games.

This was just one of those games that was a struggle all the way, a nip and tuck
affair.Bedford dropped a six around the halfway mark and it proved to be critical
as far as the result went. The players from both side were were really trying
their best to gain the ascendancy. After 17 ends VP leading 18 / 14 with both
skips doing their part but the Jones boy who was playing a brilliant game could
not overcome the consistency of the VP boys, i was not able to get a handle on
who were best players were for VP at games end. Update GeoffGill

Paul Hunter

R. Wishart{skip}, G. Hiskens, T. Reid, K. Pickering------------------19
Neil Minchin {skip}, K. Collins, Peter Hunter, F. Andrich----------19
Rooster Wisharts team were in cruise control for the first 14 ends leading
18/6 and Neil Minchins team were on a train to nowhere. Alway down when he crossed
over, it was just plain hard work for N.Minchin and try as hard as he could, he
couldn't stem the flow.
The players who were doing all the damage were the
second
Tom Reid and third Geoff Hiskens,
{pictured on right} shouldn't leave the leader K. Pickering out either
who was going particuarly well. It was a case of Rooster saying do this or do
that, and, as it is in heaven, it shall be done.
The old saying "it ain't over till the fat lady sings" was correct for
this situation as suddenly for Bedford, Frank Andrich started getting them on
and the other players followed, and now it was VP turn to chase the shots and
feel the pain that Bedford had felt earlier in the match.. There were many good
bowls played in this part of the game, but it was Bedford who came up with the
goods to draw 19/19

Jeff
Mitchell's team seemed to have the call for the most part of this game even though
the scores were very close throughout the game.
They always seemed to have the answer whenever they had a problem. On the other
hand Bedford were always behind except 3/4 of the way through, they hit the front
after a brilliant shot by L. Strahan, however that was short lived and VP the
deserving winners, pulled away again to go on and win 22/19.

Cambridge (6) def Gosnells
(2)............76/ 72 .....
Cambridge have got away to a very good start to the new season in One Red with
another good win although it was a close shave. At this stage it seems their recruiting
has paid off, however it is still early days and will wait to see what unfolds
as the season wears on..
Steve Withers 13 lost to Stein Davies 16.
Ron Stockton 19 lost to Michael Yates 25.
Trystan Smallacombe 24 def Bill Galloway 15.
Scott Edmonds 20 def Alan Petchell 16.
Gosnells raced out to a 15 shot lead early, courtesy of some good solid playing
from the Yates & Davies rinks, Gosnells were reeled in, & with 10 ends
left across the board they had hit the front. Cambridge held them off for a very
solid fight back win. Smiles all round in the Knights camp.
The rink of Trystan Smallacombe[skip}, Nick Lewis, Tony Walsh
& Wayne Maher were the best performed bowlers on the day for Cambridge.

Cockburn(6) beat Doubleview (2)................77/
71.....
As expected, a win for Cockburn, who are still a very competitive unit. Cockburn
grass is one of the hardest places to win a a game and Cockburn will win many
of their games here this season. Doubleview's cause wasn't helped with Kyle McIlroy
missing from the line up. Big winners were Russell Hughes and his rink, and without
doubt he is the recruit of the season. Robbie Ball's rink absolutely killed Steve
Srhoy's team 30/10.
Melville (6) beat Safety Bay (2)....................79/
76....
A vastly improved Safety Bay almost got this game losing by 3 shots, Jeff Hall
and ? Anderton set it up with big wins on their respective rinks. Melville have
done very well to start the season off with two good wins, However there are much
harder teams to meet from here on. The Bay can take heart from yesterdays showing
and we look forward to a more competitive display from here
Yokine (7) beat Osborne Park (1).....................80/
66....
The
Dogs {i can hear them barking from here} are surprise
winners here, especially playing away from home at Osborne Park. Marko Krajancic's
{pictured} rink lifted from last weeks display to win
23/11. Not sure why the Park fell into a big hole after last weeks strong effort.Ian
Payne's rink who lost badly last week returned to good form while the other OP
rinks all failed, as they say , bowls is a funny game.
