Bedford beat Osborne Park .......73/ 72...........5 points / 3 points
A great start for Bedford in a game where they led at the 60 end mark, 62/ 49 and appeared likely winners, however Bedford managed only 13 shots for the rest of the game. Osborne Park were here to play and lifted into a new gear, from this stage onward the rinks of D. Trewella and J. Goddard not giving an inch to their opponents, would have to say they were unlucky not to have won it for Osborne Park.. The breeze was a problem for both sides, the skill level was very good in spite of the breeze.

I. Payne {skip}. Keith Guelfi, B. Boyd, A. Thorpe.---------------9

Cliff and his team has this game wrapped up a long way from home with all players firing. Known as the "veterans" rink {sorry Bob}they led the way for Bedford in setting up a likely agg. win. Bedford owe plenty to this rink for their effort. Pictured on the right is Bob_Donovan playing his first game in One Red as third.

A. Jones { skip}, K. Burke, Paul Hunter, A. Mayer--------------17
G. Evans {skip} T. Biglan, D. Eaton, M. Wilhelm--------------- 18
In this Game, Graham Evans played a blinder, when ever the Ossy P. team were in bother he came to the rescue and generally played a 85% game. his team held command and with the Bedford team not getting a start, from there on it was all hard work for Bedford. Which is surprising seeing as we play at this venue and know and understand the conditions well.
pictured below is Max Wilhelm showing his style with Adi Mayer looking on.
maxThis was Andrew Jones first game in One Red and for Bedford, he found out how hard it can be when you are not getting a start and the opposition Skip is on fire.To the credit of the Bedford players they kept their cool and went into the last end 16 / 18 down.
It was to be this game that decided the overall result. With one end remaining and the scores 72 / 72 there was tension aplenty, as players from both sides trying desperately to land on the jack. It was Kevin Burke the Bedford third who played the bowl closest to the jack, {pictured right}leaving Graham Evans to try to rescue the situation, he played two magnificent bowls and was unlucky not to win the game for his club. These shots show just how unlucky he was in not getting the shot to win the game,he moved the jack with the correct weight, it went to the Bedford blue bowl. The top pic when the skippers cross over, we can see the bottom pic after his shot to move the jack, it lands on the bedford blue bowl, all bowls in the pic other than the blue bowl , bar the old shot bowl are Ossy Park bowls. The best player Graham Evans.

Neil Minchin {skip}, Peter Hunter, T. Garrett, F. Andrich----------18
D. Trewella {skip}, P. Caffel, R. Francesconi, P. Fair-----------------23
This game showed that the never say die attitude is alive and well at the Park, they were under the pump early on with skip Neil Minchin having a birthday, playing extremely well and generally Bedford players were really involved in this contest--leading 16 / 8 on the 13th end, the parkers weren't playing badly however they weren't having the luck as they played several shots that went the wrong way. Sadly this Bedford rink were caught out and and won only two shots for the remainder of the game losing 18 / 23. The boys seemed lose touch altogether, if Neil Minchin hadn't drawn shot when 7 down on the last end it would have been far worse.
Couldn't get a handle on Ossy Parks best player but obviously they all contributed in a great team effort, First time i have seen D.Trewella play in pennants, he is pretty handy as the man calling the shots, Pat caffel hasn't lost anything as a player nor Ron Francisconi who can get near the jack often. The leader Paul Fair won his duel on the day.
Best Player for Bedford Neil Minchin Tony Garrett

lance Strahan {skip} Dave Scott, J. Carlsen, N. Watson.--------------------------15
J. Goddard {skip pictured} G. King, C. Guelfi, P. Maynard------------------------21
A lot of hard work for this Bedford rink, never looked likely, the Ossy Park team was brilliantly led by John Goddard who played a terrific game along with the rest of his team mates who responded to his call throughout the game, it was a close game up until the 13th end where the score was 13/ 11 in favour of Ossy Park, from there on it was disaster as Bedford were only able to score four more shots in the remaining ends. This was Lance's first game for Bedford and he felt responsible for today's loss. There are plenty of games to go Lance and you will have your turn soon. best player John Goddard

Doubleview beat Victoria Park............105/ 55 .....8 points
Wow, what a belting, all rinks for Doubleview fire and record a massive 50 shot win, very disapointing for the competition and V.P. Will any team be able to compete with DV. The best rink win was the Thorn led rink, cleaning up on J. Opie 28/11

Cambridge beat Yokine...................76/ 69.....6.5 points / 1.5 points.
A good result here for Cambridge with Ron Stockden,{skip}, Chris Lander, Martin Saunders & Mike Kinsella making a great start and setting up the agg. with a very handy win over marko Krajancic 24/14. There was no bite to the Doggie bark, they were more like hush puppies in this game.

Melville beat Gosnells....................76/ 69............6.5 points/ 1.5 points
The big winner and setting up the agg win was the Bedford Bowl winner Colin Fleay with a good win over B. Petchell 24/ 14.

Cockburn beat Safety Bay.....................111/ 57...............8 points
A great start for Cockburn winning on all rinks and what a welcome to his new club for Russell Hughes with a massive score of 36/ 14 over Gary Carberry. Must say i am surprised at the heavy rink loss of J. Trewhella who showed plenty of grit at the state Fours and the Bedford Bowl. Click to Return to Pennant Scene
