March 19, 2005: Round Sixteen

Bedford(6) beat Safety Bay(2) ..........90/ 82.........
Bedford had to win this game and would have been favourites today, it really was not an impressive win considering the Bay boys are being demoted and the win was by only 8 shots, a close call. However a win is a win. There are two few doing the job for Bedford where they have relied on the Lance Strahan and 'The Jones Boy " led rinks to get the points in these most important games and if Bedford are to go forward there will have to changes made to the structure of a rink or two..

F. Keough{ skip}, B. Thompson, B.Reynolds,K. Lane---------------10
A terrific win for "the Jones Boy", What makes this win so good is the " The Jones Boy" has never played at Safety bay. However today was so important for a Bedford victory. the team was totally focused on a win today and the standout player was the leader, Peter Hunter who led his rink to victory with a very solid Peter Hunterperformance. " The Jones Boy led 17-5 on the 11th end and it appeared the rink would not lose from this position.
Of course every one played their role in this win against a weak effort from the Bay Boys, Their skipper, Frank Keough played a very handy game against the odds and saved the score line from being far larger than it was.
The rink would be happy for this result as it set up the Agg. Well done Fellahs.

Peter Hunter {pictured} played a blinder for Bedford

Best Player for Bedford was the Leader Peter Hunter who set up the rink to win with a great leading exhibition.

The best player for Safety Bay was skipper Frank.Keough who saved many shots for his rink, great stuff Frank.

Barry Gartrell {skip}, Neil Minchin , Bob Donovan, F. Andrich-----20
T. Ball {skip}, A.Holmes ,L. Cranfield, G. Hallums-------------------21
Ah gee, The club needed something from this rink of players, they have been close to winning on several occassions, but never quite managed to win-- before today, their record is 1/6-23
However the rink was
8/19 down and not going anywhere up till the 12th end, The Safety Bay leader Greg Hallums was making life hard for the Bulls with a terrific game. Bedford changed the length to 3/4 and leader Frank Andrich started to find his range, and the other players started to chip in with some handy pills, managed to comeback from the dead and buried and claw their way forward winning 8 ends on the trot to hit the front on the 20th end and lead 20-19, O.K what is good. they played their part in the Bulls win, to almost snatch an unlikely victory
Best for Bedford was hard to determine and all players came good at the same time.

Best for Safety Bay was The leader Greg Hallums

J.Smith{skip},J.Matthews ,C.Stockton , D. Goddard.................20

Well I don't have any info on this game!!!!-- my own fault---however it seems it was a very tight game up till the 15th end where they were 15/15 all. And it was from here that Lance and the boys showed their wares to be 25-16 at the 19th end, game over love,set, and match.
What can we say? only terrific stuff fellahs, and a most valuable contribution.

===========================================================

C.Graybrook {skip}, M. Lemos, R. Rushforth, J. Bills.-----------------15
J. Trewhella{skip}, G. Carberry,S. Kneale, M. Trewhella.------------ 31

This rink has problems and suffered another heavy loss . They were leading 7/2 after 5 ends which was in stark contrast to their previous two games {0/19 down} so it appeared as if they had lost the yips and were on their way toward a solid game and possible win, but the fun stopped on 14th end where they were 14/17 down and still in the contest. The Bay boys scooted away to a handsome win 31/15 .

Yokine(7) beat Doubleview (1)...........78/ 64.....
Yokine have done it again, trumping Doubleview for the second time this season.
Three rinks putting in for the Doggies but the win of Alan Davis led the way to victory over Robbie Ball's rink with a 22/12 scoreline
A big result was that of Stu Bainbridge and his boys defeating the leading rink in the competition, that of Lindsay Thorne with a scoreline 22/15.
The only winner for Doubleview was John Rainoldi's rink who beat the very well performed rink of Tom Norac, who had lost only two games in his last nine prior to yesterday's game.. 23/14

=============================================================

Osborne Park(6.5) beat Gosnells (1.5 )...............77/68.....
Osborne Park won as expected but owe much to the rinks of John Goddard 23/18 , and "Wings" Evans who won against young Thomas Mitchell who skippered for the first time winning 25/12, and a team effort in this game.
Bill Galloway and his rink put in another splendid effort to put Cliff Guelfi away with a 21/12 win to be the only winner for Gosnells.

==================================================

Cockburn (7) beat Melville(1)..................88/81...
A narrow win here to Cockburn against a competitve Melville Magic with Daniel Brown being the biggest winner for Cockburn beating another young skipper, Kiran Cousens 26/20.
The Magic scored on one rink and that was Tony Krajancic who defeated Dinko Golem, and that hasnt been easy to do of late, the score 25/20

NEVILLE YOUNGVictoria Park (8) Cambridge (0 ).....................95/ 62...
Well one would think that VP would win the game but not with such a convincing score, However the 8 points are more than welcome for VP as every point counts as the struggle for a spot in the four intensifies. This was the first time in the season that Cambridge didn't collect a rink win. The major factors for VP were the rinks of Rooster Wishart really got hold of Ron Stockdens rink 24/12 and Mark Simpson squeezing Steve Withers right out of the contest with 26/11 win.
Clash of the giants saw Peter Harris beat his State team mate Trytan Smallacombe 20/18. While Justin Opie just got home against Scott Edmonds 23/21.
Neville Young {pictured}had a big day playing two for VP
