January 17, 2011-----------------Pat Caffell winning game on last end

Last end

The second day of the Osborne Park Club Championship singles was completed and we are down the final which will be played next Friday evening 21 Jan 4.30 PM

It will unique as far as the Osborne Pk Club is concerned because two brothers will meet in the final, Pat and Gary Caffell. Something that has not happened at the the club.

Pat won his way into the final by defeating State Pairs champ Rob Lawrence 25-22 taking 28 ends and 3 dead ends.
Rob Lawrence jumped out well to establish a handy lead 7-3 then increasing the lead to 13-7 on the 11th end.
That is where Pat Caffell came into the game to take charge and whittle down the deficit and generally take charge to hit the front 16 - 14.

L/R: Pat Caffell looks anxiously waiting for the bowl to arrive while Rob Lawrence is wanting this bowl to do the job on an important end late in the game
Pat Caffell..
It was from this section of the game on where the standard lifted with both players playing some exceptionally good ends to keeping the good crowd interested and wondering who would win this game.
Rob Lawrence did come back hard to hit the lead briefly 20 - 19 on the 23rd end but that was it for Rob who never had the lead from that end on.
There were several quality ends but two that stood out was the 24th end when Rob Lawrence was in deep trouble and had to draw shot in a nest of 3 Pat Caffell bowls, Rob drew shot. Pat Caffell played a backbreaker to push that shot out and collect 4 big shots to move to 23 - 20.

What proved to be the last end of the 27 ends played Rob Lawrence 22-24 down played a ripper to sit behind the jack for shot but unfortunately for him his other two bowls were short tho very close.
Pat Caffell had just missed a trail to be about 18 inches behind. Pat Played the last bowl to trail the Jack to his bowl and game over and to set up a big game with brother Gary.

Gary Caffell won his game against Bruce Weir 25 - 7. The score makes the game look lopsided but Bruce actually played very well with many close bowls but what ever the situation Gary Caffell was closer. A wonderful effort from Bruce who has been in good touch this season to make it to the semi final.

Other games saw Lewis Grigg defeat Paul Butler 21-20 in a high standard game then went down to Rob Lawrence 9-21.
Current Club pairs title holder Jim Duggan won against the Miracle man Dante Mariani then fell the spell of Pat Caffell

GK Clark who was magnificent last week banging out Wings Evans and Paul Pendergast was not able to continue on with that form going down to the steady Jim Weir

Gordon King was not able to contain the brilliance of Gary Caffell going dowm 9-21
