John Goddard retained the title of Club Champion by winning the Singles Championship last night in a hard fought game against a gallant Doug Eaton.
The photo below is almost identical to last years photo except Doug was the marker, Scott Edmonds was the new marker replaced r/u Dave Rankin in this picture.

John Goddard proved to be too consistent for a gallant Doug Eaton in the final of the Club Championship Singles.
When I arrived the score was 13-2 in favour of John Goddard, I was told he was doing his usual thing, his bowls always doing what they normally do and that is being where the jack is.
It was at this stage of the game
when Doug Eaton cranked up a gear and started to win the ends and the score going from 13-2 to 17-10.
The game was taking on a new intensity at this stage with several top ends being played and with dashing Doug getting within 5 shots of John to make it 13-18 down. Could he sustain this long run to win the title? well he fought tooth and nail to be 15- 20 down and that was to be the closest Doug got to John thru the game..
While it seems john was a little quite that was not really the case, he kept his focus to meet the great challenge that Doug was presenting to him on a slowing green, on three occasions he had to draw the ultimate shot to save big scores that might have affected the outcome.
From here Doug lost his line and weight and played dearly for that, while John kept his line and broke away to win on a green slowing down by the minute, the also wind was making life difficult for both players. John cruised away and showed why he is the great bowler he is winning 25 - 17
Doug said after the game he was disappointed with his performance saying he didn't adjust to the conditions quickly enough but he can hold his head high after coming back when all seemed lost. Last year John defeated Doug 21-8 in the semi final
John remarked after the game that it was hard going with the green continually slowing down in the windy conditions as the evening wore on
but was very happy to win the Championship for the 5th time.
THE SEMI FINALS
John Goddard versus Scott Edmonds
The last time John and Scott met was in the Champion of Club Championships singles and it was John who
won that game. So this should be a ripper of a game.
John defeated Scott in a high standard game. Sherro was not at this game so I can't add anything as to what happened other than the spectators saying the quality of bowls was exceptionally good with several tight heads that could have gone either way. 25-16
Doug Eaton versus Grant Nicol
An enthralling set of games at Osborne Pk. In particular there were two outstanding games. Firstly the game between everyone's favourite Dashing Doug Eaton who especially had a haircut for this big contest, and the real nice guy and gentleman, General Grant Nicol.
An absolute ripper of a game showcasing the high level of skills both these two gents possess
At one stage the score was 9-9 apiece when Doug Eaton took command of the game and shot out to lead 19-9. However the General wasn't given that nickname for nothing, started a long searching run to not only reel in the deficit but hit the lead 21-20.
There were many ends where the skill level was sooooooo high and it was a huge battle for the honour of playing in the final.
All huge battles come to an end and we were not to know at this stage but the General was not to score again but went down swinging. Congratulations to both players for producing such a quality game and Doug Eaton being victorious 25 - 21
PLATE WINNER 2009-10
Keith Guelfi 25 defeated Peter Budd 16
The plate was won by Keith Guelfi who defeated Peter Budd in a good tussle. Keith still has the passion and is playing as well as ever while Peter Budd is an ever improving player who could make his mark in the not too diatance future
