A cracking game played in the final of the Osborne Park Club Championship Pairs with the underdogs Rob Lawrence and Jim Duggan defeating Bill Galloway and Grant Nicol on the last end of the game.

Rob Lawrence, who showed a touch of class in the recently held State Singles where he made the last 8. He has been at Osborne Park for 6 years, during that time he has been runner up on five occasions in Club Championship events. The win here gives Rob his first major Club title at OP

Jim Duggan is in his 5th season of bowls and having never won a Club Championship event. Jim played at Bayswater in the first 4 seasons of his bowling career would be delighted with his move to Osborne Park this season and to bag a major title so early in such a strong Club is quite an accomplishment. Jim plays pennants in 2nd division..

It was always going to be a tough contract for both Rob and Jim to defeat the talented pair of Bill Galloway and the General, Grant Nicol.

The way the game started out it was looking like it would be a cakewalk for Rob and Jim where they led 8-2 after 8 ends had been played. It seemed as if they could do nothing wrong and even tho the heads were tight and the standard of the bowls high it was always Rob and Jim who ended up with the shot.

From this end onward the old firm of Bill Galloway and the General Grant Nicol, who took charge with both players playing a brilliant brand of precision bowls to lock Rob and Jim out of the game to cause one to ponder that Rob would be a runner up for the 5th time.

The score shot out to 12 - 8 in favour of Bill and Grant. The standard of the game hadn't dropped, it in fact lifted to a very high level.

Both leaders Jim and Grant were very impressive and responded to the pressure as did Bill Galloway and Rob Lawrence.

With 6 ends to play Rob and Jim came back hard in some very tight heads with great leading by Jim but at no stage was Grant out of it and played some very big pills also

We saw the scoreboard move along with Rob and Jim scoring 8-12, 10-12, 13-12, 13-13, 13-14, 15-14

Overall a brilliant match with two comebacks, one from Rob and Jim to comeback in the last 6 ends to win and from Bill and Grant to get back into the game after being 2 - 8 down midway thru.

It was a wonderful game presented by Bill and Grant who would have been a touch disappointed when it seemed they had the game almost in their grasp but like all good sportsmen, they were very gracious in their loss.

Well done and congratulations to Rob and Jim to win the Osborne Park Club Championship Pairs

Rance Dewson played in the Plate sporting a new growth of hair (which suits him) since we had seen him last play.

As Shane Warne would say New hair "yeah yeah" !!
