REPORT ON ‘ONE WHITE’ 2007 / 2008. PREVIEW -
ROUND SIX

Last Week:
There are two distinct observations following last week’s results: - the rich are getting richer in the form of the Dalkeith-Nedlands undefeated march towards Premier Division; and the poor are getting poorer in that Gosnells are hopelessly (at this stage) tailed off at the bottom after another decisive loss. HOWEVER, the middle is jammed packed and couldn’t possibly look more exciting.

Leeming bounced back beautifully after getting smacked by Thornlie the week before to record a good win over the fancied Morley side; Yokine won the toss of the coin watch against Bassendean where two things of note occurred – Justin Opie’s rink bounced back with a win as predicted and the Yokine ‘new gun’ Jamie O’Keefe didn’t disappoint with a win on debut in W.A.; Dalkeith-Nedlands didn’t have it all their own way and I’m told that the aggregate was for a long time much closer that the final 14 point margin suggests.

Having said that, a very good side always seems to find a way to win in the face of adversity and the Silvertails have been achieving that feat all season; Mosman Park put a poor start and turbulent week and a half behind them to pinch the aggregate from Kardinya in a thrilling match where for the 2nd time this season 3 of the 4 rinks in a match were decided by a single shot; and in the bottom of the table clash Safety Bay recorded a resounding 8 to Nil aggregate win over Gosnells.

THIS WEEK:
I particularly like two match-ups for this coming round. Although Morley were very disappointed with their overall result last week it may well have been the shot in the arm that they needed leading up to their big test against the competition pacesetters in Dalkeith-Nedlands.

The other one I like is Mosman Park verses 2nd place Yokine. I just have a feeling that Mosman Park may have turned the corner last week and at home will take it right up to Yokine.

LATE NEWS: The Bassendean V’s Safety Bay match will now be played at Safety Bay this round to assist The Bay with a function on that night. In light of the venue change I now add this match to the above two as another pick of the round. It is a very important match for both clubs, but particularly for The Bay, and I have changed ‘My Prediction’ on the basis of the home surface and conditions

LAST WEEK:
Leeming 94 (6) defeated Morley 71 (2)
Mosman Park 81 (7) defeated Kardinya 75 (1)
Safety Bay 111 (8) defeated Gosnells 63 (0)
Dalkeith-Nedlands 93 (6) defeated Thornlie 79 (2)
Yokine 80 (6) defeated Bassendean 73 (2)

LADDER:
Dalkeith-Nedlands 32½; Yokine 26½; Thornlie 22; Leeming 22; Kardinya 22; Bassendean 20; Morley 19; Mosman Park 18; Safety Bay 13; Gosnells 5.

I used to read the One White write-ups last year by my friend, Tim Murray. When he’d had a bad week tipping he’d write something along the lines of, ‘it just goes to show that I know absolutely nothing about bowls’. Well I know far, far less about bowls than Tim.

Last week only 2 from 5. For the season a (16 – 10) winning rate. .

SAFETY BAY V’s BASSENDEAN

I haven’t heard from anyone at Safety Bay so can’t report their lineup or any news. Last week they picked up only the second score of 8 to Nil for the competition this season. Ray Beard’s rink won by 28 shots, Matt Massari’s rink by 17 shots, Paul Beaumont’s rink by 2 shots and Graham Scott’s rink by a shot.

BASSENDEAN
Gordon Gray (Sk)              P. Hutchinson               Ian Robertson        Ray Denton
John Lynch (Sk)                 Jamie Davies                  Nolan Hall               Norm Kirkup
Marcel Heruer (Sk)             Colin Hotker                Neil Strachan              Fred Early
Justin Opie (Sk)                C. Greenhalgh           Wes Jones                Steve Black

A report from a contact at Bassendean is as follows:

Bassendean VS Yokine -
Played in very difficult conditions and all players struggled with the strong gusting winds and heavy greens. The game was played in tremendous spirit, with everyone playing some great bowls and was a credit to all involved.

F Early, N Strachan, C Hotker and M Hereur Played the form rink of Rod ''Rocket'' Heaton and ran into a very in form Rocket. From the outset the Basso boys were playing well, often having bowls in the head only to have Rocket take shot (centimetre perfect!) or "Dead End" it. According to the players on the rink Rod was worth 27 shots in an awesome display, making shot when 4 and 5 down, killing the end when 7 down. According to Marcel Hereur the front ends were well matched with Bassendean often holding shots, however Rocket was the difference between the teams, "he played a great game and were it anyone else we probably would have had a much better result." Marcel's men played very well, however, at the end of the game there was 9 shots the difference Yokine’s way. Yokine by 9 shots.

N Kirkup, N Hall, J Davies and J Lynch Took on the Kay lead rink and skipped out early before dropping a 5 and finding themselves in a real scrap. All credit to the Yokine boys who came back hard in this game and fought it out to the end.
Norm Kirkup continues to have a stellar start to the season and with Nolan Hall bowling consistently well and John Lynch adding, saving and in particular drawing 3 "absolutes" when his team were 3 and 4 shots down the Basso boys did enough to take the game by 4 shots. The Kay led rink played a consistent game with all players contributing and will do a lot of damage as the year progresses. Bassendean by 4 shots.

S Black, W Jones, C Greenhalg and J Opie These boys had a point to prove and they took on Scott Edmonds in a game that was a real struggle. All players struggled to get a handle on the conditions. Blacky + Coghill had a good tussle leading against each other with neither getting the upper hand but doing their jobs as leaders.
Bomber Jones + Lorencs also doing their bit with Bomber getting the upper hand, Greenie + Gallop matched each other on the day with some great conversions between the two of them. Justin Opie was busy doing what he does best putting the icing on the cake over Scotty Edmonds who also was busy saving shots in a great display of skippering. Bassendean by 10 shots.

R Denton, I Robertson, P Hutchinson and G Gray Had a great game against Jamie O'Keefe in his first game for the Doggies and his very strong rink. The Bassendean team fought hard playing good bowls only to be countered by good bowing from the Yokine back end. Durrant had a great game at third and O'Keefe converted when he needed to keeping the Yokine boys in the lead with Bassendean nipping at their heels.
This was the last rink to finish and went into the final end with Bassendean needing 4 to win the aggregate. Unfortunately as they were chasing shots, they ended the day losing the final end by three shots. The Basso boys played hard and gave their best, unfortunately this was not to be their day. Yokine by 12 shots.

Martin’s Prediction: SAFETY BAY (at the Bay).

DALKEITH-NEDLANDS V’s MORLEY

DALKEITH-NEDLANDS
Marco Krajancic(Sk) John Morgan Norm Sutton Ross MacKenzie
Tony Skoric (Sk) Ross Donald Steve Back Vaughan Colley
Peter Bacich (Sk) Mark Lindsay Alex Gryta Peter Gason
Tom Williams (Sk) John McKintosh Vinnie Santostefano John McCormack

A report from a contact at Dalkeith is as follows:

It was a win for the ages, perhaps even a coming of age, one of the finest in the Silvertails history.

It’s never easy to travel to Thornlie and play on the carpet, not with standing that the carpet at the home of the Ravens is first class. To be on the receiving end of an early match onslaught and then, to first arrest the hemorrhaging, secondly break even and then have the courage and nerve to claw your way back into the game against the odds takes some doing. To then finish over the top and make it look easy is something completely different. Such was the story of the Silvertails win on the weekend, when even the most optimistic of the optimistic, with 6 ends to go and nearly 30 shots behind, was looking for a silver lining to both the metaphorical and very real dark cloud that hovered above the Silvertails collective heads. A win that even the most hardened and season players amongst the Silvertails stated was amongst their finest.

It was a win that given the situation, every rink had to contribute in some way, and that is exactly what happened.

At one stage the Tony “the Wild Gypsy” Skoric was down 26/4 to Greg Regan, Peter “the Duke” Basich was down 14/4 to Glyn Vaughan, Tom Williams was square with Paul Pohe and “the Krackerjack” had a slight advantage against Jim McKenzie, but some how the Silvertails turned it around. It started with Tommy Williams’s rink who picked up a seven. At exactly the same time the Gypsy picked up a five, the Krackerjack picked up a four as did The Duke’s rink. Then the Krackerjack picked up another four on the very next end, 22 shots pulled back in 5 ends.

The momentum swung in those five ends and was the launching pad that saw the Silvertails get home by an amazing 14 shots. Lets start with Tony “the Wild Gypsy” Skoric. To say the Gypsy was getting smashed is simply an understatement. Greg Reagan was simply “dacking” the Gypsy. As mentioned by end 15 the Gypsy was 26/4 down. He had a small, difficult, but not necessarily insurmountable problem. His problem was that his lead “Jolly” Vaughan Colley was playing bad, his second, Steve “the Beekeeper” Back worse, and with the bar set as low as it could be his third, Rowdy Ross McDonald, was incapable even clearing that. The Gypsy completed the quadrela.

It was noted across the rinks that the Gypsy was unusually quite. But the Gypsy was busy trying to work things out, a plan, a strategy. And that plan was to not loose faith in his players, not to lose belief in himself and the team cause. When the opening came, the Gypsy and his team came to life. On the precipice of the hiding of his life the Gypsy rallied. From 26/4 down the Gypsy won 15 of the next 16 shots to go down 27/19 and play a crucial role in a memorable victory, such is the format of pennant bowls.

The Gypsy reckoned that Greg Regan had played great and the third had played a blinder. He was heard to say after the match “!!@#! me. That !!@#!ing third was !!@#!ing unbe !!@#!ing levable. He !!@#!ing murdered us most of the !!@#!ing day”. The Gypsy then said the word “!!@#!” once again, for no particular reason.

At the end of each match the Silvertails fill in a voting slip for all the players on the rink. It was agreed that they would only assess the match on the last six ends as no player would have polled a vote in the first 15 ends. “Jolly” Vaughan Colley had a sluggish day. He recently announced that he was living with Andrew Jones, but there is strong suspicion that his sluggish form and current body shape may arise from the fact that he has probably eaten the “Jones Boy”.
“The Beekeeper” had a poor harvest, and “Rowdy” Ross Donald punished himself with some primal screaming and a two hour workout at the Club on Sunday. When last seen the Gypsy was still swearing.

A similar situation had arisen on Peter “the Duke” Bacich’s rink. Soundly thrashed by Gynn Vaughan in the early stages of the match, his front end, particularly “Perfect” Peter Gason, (who was far from it) and his third Mark “the Meat Cleaver” Lindsay were having no end of trouble on the carpet. Alec, “the Big Banana Fritter” Gryta, was handling the conditions better, but was by no means at the peak of his game. Down 14/4 the Duke and his team stuck to their guns and clawed their way back to within four shots before going down 27/16.
The fact that they were able to hold their own over the last six ends was instrumental in the final result.

Tom “the Bomb” Williams made a welcome return to the winners circle after a 28/15 win against a rink skippered by the two times Thornlie Club singles champion Paul Pohe.

Vinnie Santostefano Dalkeith (pictured) A very handy gain for the Silvertails playing one back for Tom "The Bomb" Williams.

Vinne SantostefanoThe Bomb this week acquired a new bit of horseflesh in the shape of Vinnie “the Stallion” Santostefano, a fine purchase at the Five Game Yearling sales. The Stallion playing at one back fitted in like a thumb in a bum and was very instrumental in the win announcing to all and sundry what an important pick up he was, and will be for the Silvertails.
He fitted in a treat, acquitted himself superbly, and played a great game with the new red speckled Redline XTL’s, which prompted “the Bomb” on about the tenth end to say “F..k, I want a set of them!!”

Big John “the Saint” McIntosh was runner-up in the 1971 Brownlow medal to a bloke who liked to wear lady’s clothes and put on lip stick, a fact “the Saint” has struggled to come to grips with for 30 years. He has in the past often been heard muttering to himself after a few beers, “Why couldn’t it have been a hard bastard like Teddy, or Barras or the Chimp”.
But it all seems to be behind him now as he is currently in Brownlow Medal winning form and would have picked up top votes again on the weekend. His draw bowling this year is as good as anyone in the State and his class was on display on the weekend upon a surface and in conditions not familiar to the big bloke.
I understand that he was approached recently by a bowls coach who informed “the Saint” that he could teach him a delivery technique whereby the deliverer was guaranteed that each bowl would finish within half a millimetre of where it was intended.
“The Saint” informed him that a delivery technique like that was of no value to him because, “I’ve got to be spot on”.
“The Bomb” has been down on form over the last few weeks but showed a bit of the old stuff with his new combination. “Gentleman” John McCormack was steady without being the dominant player he has been over the last few weeks but adds a quite steeliness to the team.
The DN boys often held multiple numbers in the first half of the game only to have Paul Pohe draw the shot cold with his last bowl. It was a matter of holding their nerve and seizing the moment when it arrived. When it did, it came with a rush in the form of a seven and there was no turning back from there.

The Krackerjack was the aggregate carrier. The 30/9 win by the Krackerjack was the wind in the sail of the Silvertails. The margin would have been greater but for the fact that early on the Krackerjack picked up the jack to put it in the ditch only to have it bounce back and give the opposition a four when a two count for the Krackerjack looked a certainty.
Then later on, after the jack had been put in the ditch, with the Krackerjack toucher in the ditch 3-4 inches away and a certain multiple count on the cards, the Thornlie Skipper Jim McKenzie played two beauties, one of which poked its snout over the edge to get shot.

But in general it was a dirty day for the Thornlie boys and not much went right. The Krackerjack was unable to get a single response to his advertisement for a replacement three last week and so went into the match with an unchanged team.
“Radical” Ross McKenzie was the absolute standout and played one of the great games as lead. Clearly the best player on the rink he set the game up from the front. Norm “No Nickname” Sutton had a quite day by his standards while the third, who clearly relished playing uninjured, and like “the Stallion” was born and raised on carpet, seemed more at ease on the knee burner than he has been on the grass over the last few weeks.

The end of the game caught the Krackerjack by surprise, so much so that he was heard to say, with due diplomacy and empathy for the opposition “Is it over all ready? Shit I was enjoying that”
All in all, a quite magnificent win by the Silvertails.

This week an unchanged line up take on Morley at home and no one in their right mind would bet against the Silvertails, however they would be cognizant of the fact that the Morley team boasts some very good players, hardened after a year in the premier league. None the less there is a balance, enthusiasm and camaraderie surrounding the Silvertails that will take some beating.

MORLEY
John Armstrong (Sk) John Sheridan Graham White Travis Ingram
Peter Aungier (Sk) Allan Barron Neville Gannaway Andy Elmer
Bruce Walter (Sk) Gavin Grieve Denis Mullenger Glenn Britten
Robbie Urquhart (Sk) Wayne Neilson Joe Heiden Brad Moyle

A report from a contact at Morley is as follows:

A very substandard performance by Morley against Leeming last Saturday at home. Hard to say exactly what caused the slump in form but we certainly didn’t play well as a team and all our rinks were down on form.

Peter Aungier’s rink: has been our most reliable rink this season but got hammered by 32 to 13 by the Don Munro led rink.

Robbie Urquhart's rink: which so far this year has been very competitive in every game but also copped a thumping by 29 to 16 to the Peter Morris rink.

John Armstrong's rink:
had a good battle all day before scoring a four on the last end to win by one shot over the Danny Comrie rink.

Bruce Walter's rink: were in front all day with the result never in doubt. Bruce was clearly the best player on the rink, playing many great saving shots throughout the game and won by 8 shots over the Lindsay Strange rink. That all being said it was a dark day for Morley.

THIS WEEK:
We take on Dalkeith-Nedlands away and a much more focused and determined effort will be required if we are to come away with the aggregate. Morley over the years has traditionally been able to regroup strongly in tough times and next week will be a very good time to bounce back.

Peter Aungier’s rink:
Neville Gannaway comes in to play 3rd. Robbie Urquhart ‘s rink - Wayne Neilson comes in to play 3rd, Joe Heiden from 3rd to 2nd and Brad Moyle from 2nd to lead. Revell & Mitchell are out at the minute.

Martin’s Prediction: DALKEITH-NEDLANDS.

GOSNELLS V’s THORNLIE

GOSNELLS
Brett Holland (Sk) Jason Bryan Andrew Hay-Hendry David Downey
Neville Mulcahy (Sk) Bert Cruickshank Brian Creswell Mike Rickard
Maurice Crabb (Sk) Alan Corby Roy Sharp Peter Gale
Kevin Bairstow (Sk) Trevor Gibbs Peter Hodgson Trevor Simons

Now, on the surface one would be excused for thinking that things are looking pretty bleak for Gosnells when running last in the Division and getting hammered 8 to Nil by the team running second last. - But in reality, - you’re dam right that things ARE pretty bloody bleak.

Nah, not that bad: Safety Bay had already shown several times this season that they are a good side and very capable of very good performances. Not the least being against leaders Dalkeith-Nedlands the week before last at the home of the Silvertails.
I’m not revealing anything new when I say that conditions down at Safety Bay can be very difficult when it’s blows but all credit to the home side who played those conditions and their home surface very well.

Kevin (the bear) Bairstow’s rink: lost by one shot and were unlucky not to come away with a win after leading for most of the day. It only takes a couple of things that could have gone either way, to go one way, and the whole momentum of a game can change and it did.

Brett Holland’s rink: lost by two shots in a game that was tight all day and could have gone either way. Brett and Jason Bryan have been performing well all season and will continue to be very competitive.

Neville Mulcahy’s rink: stayed with the home side for the majority of the match but the home side really got away towards the end to win by 17 shots.

Maurice Crabb’s rink: were behind the eight ball from word go and never got into match against the very solid Ray Beard rink. Maurice isn’t the first to be given a baptism of fire on taking over a rink and I’m sure these four will give a better account of themselves next week at home.

NEXT WEEK:
There were quite a few changes made the week before so credit to Alan Corby for leaving the rinks alone for another week at least.
On a very sad note: the members of the Gosnells Bowling Club offer our heartfelt condolences to our past President of many years and current player & selector, Brian Fox, on the passing of his loving wife, Pat, who collapsed and died suddenly this week.
May she rest in peace mate and out thoughts are with you and your family.

THORNLIE
Paul Pohe (Sk) Mick Hansen Jim Stein Andy Lill
Jim McKenzie (Sk) Alan Petchell Rod Kimble Jake Halse
Glyn Vaughan (Sk) Ross McMillian Jim Irwine Tony Churcher
Greg Reagan (Sk) Terry McCormack Ian Rewell Ray Halse

A report from a contact at Thornlie is as follows:

It would appear that winning at home this season is a more difficult task than it should be. Dalkeith-Nedlands came and conquered leaving 2 points at home for the hosts. Looking at the positives - Thornlie did at least collect those 2 points.

Ross McMillanGlyn Vaughan’s rink: Well done to Glyn, Ross McMillan, Jim Irwine and Tony Churcher for a well put together 11 shot victory.

Ross McMillan Thornlie (pictured) A strong competitor for Thornlie over the years

Greg Reagan’s rink: As well to Greg, Terry McCormack, Ian Rewell and Ray Halse who held on to finish 9 shots the better over Tony Skoric’s rink who are one of Dalkeith-Nedlands better performed rinks. As for the other two rinks, it is back to the drawing board.

Jim McKenzie’s rink: Marko and his band of assassins got hold of McKenzie's rink and gave them a right royal work over. It was noted that Ross MacKenzie for Dalkeith had a terrific day leading and was very instrumental in setting up a 19 shot victory for the visitors.

Paul Pohe’s rink: also had a touch of the struggles and went down to the Williams rink by 13 shots. As the game unfolded Thornlie, although behind on two rinks, held an 8 to 10 shot lead in the aggregate up to about the 60th end. It was at that point that Thornlie dropped a 7, 5, and a 3 across three rinks. From that point on it was all academic.

Well done Dalkeith see you on the run home. Next Week: No reported changes to the above team.

Martin’s Prediction: GOSNELLS.

KARDINYA V’s LEEMING

KARDINYA
Daryl Radford (Sk) John Smith Kerry Eames Les Phillips
Ian Hastings (Sk) Dave Wood Shaun McCormack David Phillips
Rex Sweet (Sk) Rob Foy Mark Abonnel Steve Vinci
Geoff Gould (Sk) Tony Cocodis Graeme Wake Owen Sweetman

A report from a contact at Kardinya is as follows:

In a top class game, played under very blustery conditions, Mosman Park just edged us out by 5 shots. Kardinya led by as much as 17 shots after about 70 ends, but the Mossies gradually whittled down the lead to clinch the aggregate on the very last end of the game.

A five-shot win by John Rainoldi’s rink was the biggest winning margin of the day, with the other three rinks all being decided by a mere shot.

The last two ends of the whole match were played on the Ian Hastings/Steve Withers rink. Ian’s rink led 20-16 going into the second last end, with the Mossies holding a one shot lead in the aggregate. With Kardinya in a potentially aggregate winning position and holding three shots, Mark Simpson played a big bowl to gain shot, and with Steve Withers also converting, the result was a five shot turn-around that had a profound impact on the result. On the last end, Ian strived very hard to play an aggregate winning shot for his team but, in the final analysis, the Mossies gained three shots on last end to win the rink 21-20. A draw would probably have been a fitting result. Ian, Dave Wood (Third), and David Phillips (Lead) all bowled well, but it was Shaun McCormack (Second) who played a splendid game for Kardinya, and he is proving to be a tremendous addition to our ranks.

Tony Cocodis Kardinya (pictured) playing his part in this so far unbeaten rink

Tony Cocodis
Geoff Gould continued on his merry way winning his fifth consecutive game, and with Tony Cocodis (Third), Graeme Wake (Second) and Ivan Botica (Lead) defeated Peter Cole by one shot to record Kardinya’s only rink win. Graeme and Tony both played very solid games.

Rex Sweet’s rink of Rob Foy (Third), Marc Abonnel (Second) and Steve Vinci (Lead) went down by one shot to Lester Mortimer. There was little between the sides all day, and Rex just missed out on drawing a fourth shot on the last end to tie the rink. Steve led particularly well on that rink.

Daryl Radford’s rink of John Smith (Third), Kerry Eames (Second) and Les Phillips (Lead) had a roller-coaster ride against John Rainoldi. Down 8-2 at one stage, they rallied strongly to lead 17-8 before losing six of their last seven ends to go down 23-18.

NEXT WEEK:
The Selectors have made only one change for next week’s home fixture against Leeming. Owen Sweetman returns to replace Ivan Botica as Lead in Geoff Gould’s rink. Note: There is a possibility that Terry Ball might return for the final game before the break, but it is more likely he will return for the first game after the break.

LEEMING
Danny Comrie (Sk) Gary Ford Peter Middleton Steve Harris
Don Munro (Sk) Bill West Phil Dobie Tom Glendinning
Lindsay Strange (Sk) Alan Pryce Gary Pemberton Dennis Anderson
Peter Morris (Sk) Ian Ashworth Colin Webber Ray Morley

A report from a contact at Leeming is as follows:

Danny Comrie rink: Sadly the boys dropped a 4 on the last end to lose this one by 1 (bugger). The score after 7 ends Leeming 6 Morley 5, after 14 ends Leeming 8 Morley 12, final Leeming 17 Morley 18.
From what I saw of this game it was a tight encounter all day which is reflected in the final score.

Peter Morris rink: Pete's rink led from start to finish to notch up a convincing 13 shot win. The score after 7 ends Leeming 12 Morley 6, after 14 ends Leeming 24 Morley 9, final Leeming 29 Morley 16. Leeming picked up a 6 on the second end and a 5 on the last to finish off a great performance. Pete was his usual quiet unassuming self. There were a few shouts of "Hooray" which seem to indicate that his lead "Ray" (hooray.. get it) Morley had a great day out and by the score so did the rest of the rink.

Lindsay Strange rink: "Can it get any better" well they think not, as they have gone down for two in a row, albeit by five or so shots at games end. "Thank God Leeming won the Aggregate" they said.

The game did not get off to a good start for Lindsay and his team, because his third Alan (Pryceless) Pryce was 20 odd minutes late for the start of the game, which didn’t help his team's focus. Morley jump out to a seven shot lead in the first few ends causing Lindsay and his frustrated team to chase shots all day on a slow green. Lindsay said, "One thing about my team is they hung in there all day even when all seemed against us".
The score after 7 ends Leeming 2 Morley 10, after 14 Leeming 6 Morley 15, final Leeming 16 Morley 21.
The boys were 11 shots down at times throughout this game but 7 shots to 1 in the last 4 ends tightened this up. NOTE: The reason for Pryceless being late was that he went to the wrong club (Gosnells) ‘go figure’ said Lindsay (well he said more than that but it's not printable). You can be assured Prycee won’t live this one down for sometime, he can expect a big fine on the team's next bus trip, along with some good old fashioned p**s taking for the rest of the season and beyond. Thanks to the Morley boys for waiting for him to turn up.

Don Munro rink: Another great win to Don's rink scoring 2 x 5's and a 7 which was always going to make it tough for Morley. The score after 7 ends Leeming 5 Morley 4, after 14, Leeming 14 Morley 12, final Leeming 32 Morley 13.
The last few games have seen Don's rink outscored in the closing ends but Saturdays 18 to 2 score in the last 7 ends certainly seems to have solved this problem.
The 18th end saw one of the shots of the day with Don being a few shots down with 5 bowls at the back. He played a great yard on shot, stuck with the kitty to go 6 up. He then drew his next to make it 7.

Martin’s Prediction: KARDINYA.

MOSMAN PARK V’s YOKINE

MOSMAN PARK
John Rainoldi (Sk) Lindsay Hicks Jarrad Rainoldi Glenn Ellis
Steve Withers (Sk) Mark Simpson Tom O’Neill John Deery
Lester Mortimer (Sk) Wyn Ferris David Teague Peter Freund
Peter Cole (Sk) Steve Novak Rad Anderson Tom Reid

A report from a contact at Mosman Park is as follows:

L. Mortimer W. Ferris D. Teague P. Freund Vs R. Sweet R. Foy M. Abonnel S. Vinci
This game was tight all day with the lead changing 7 times before Mossies won four of the last five ends picking up 7 shots and taking a 4 shot lead into the last end. Kardinya fell just short by picking up 3 shots on the last to fall 1 short. Dave Teague continues his good form along with Lester Mortimer having another solid game.

P.Cole S.Novak R.Anderson T.Reid Vs G. Gould A. Cocodis G. Wake I. Botica This was a good game with Kardinya controlling the game early before Mossies fought back late picking up 5 shots in the last 2 ends to just fall short. The Kardy boys were fantastically led by Geoff Gould but was just shaved by Tony Cocodis who was the standout on this rink All in all it was easy to see why this rink is unbeaten so far this year. For Mossies Steve Novak and Peter Cole had solid games.

John Rainoldi L. Hicks Ja Rainoldi G. Ellis Vs D. Radford J. Smith K. Eames L. Phillips
Mossies got off to an early 6-0 lead before Kardinya fought back with great bowls by all four players to take a 17-8 lead after 14 ends. The next 6 ends were all one way traffic with Mossies picking up 15 shots before going down by 1 on the last to win by 5. Easy to see why Mossies would love to have John Rainoldi available every week with his great game and Lindsay Hicks following on his good form from last week.

S. Withers M. Simpson T. O'Neill J Deery Vs I. Hastings D. Wood S. McCormack D. Phillips
Kardinya had control for most of this game with David Wood and Ian Hastings playing fantastic games to help build up an early 18-11 lead after 15 ends. But a great fight back by the Mossie Park boys, in particular Mark Simpson and Steve Withers, saw them outscore the Kardy boys 10 shots to 2 over the last 6 ends. After all the other rinks had finished this game still had 2 ends to play and Mosman Park were leading the aggregate by 1 shot. In the end Mossies were a little to strong. John Deery and Tom O’Neill gave good support to Mark Simpson who played some big conversion shots while Steve Withers added the final touches for Mossies to come away with a 7 points to 1 aggregate win.

YOKINE
Rod Heaton (Sk) Ian Cooper John Bills Bill Morrison
Tony Kay (Sk) Darren Kellond Terry Fulcher Chris Busing
Scott Edmonds (Sk) John Gallop Juris Lorencs Ian Goghill
Jamie O’Keefe (Sk) Adrian Durrant John McGrath Graham Dawson

A report from a contact at Yokine is as follows:

Doggies scrape home.
Yokine Dogs scraped in with a narrow win over a very strong Bassendean. For most of the dark, cold, wet day the dogs had a slight edge over the very spirited Bassendean. Just when it looked all over the fast finishing rink of Justin Opie were just putting their bowls away when a sudden change of events happened across the rinks. In the closing stages Bassendean had crept up without notice to within 3 of the aggregate.
With people like the very passionate Steve Black (ABLE PRINT) encouraging from the bank and into some refreshments the tide started to swing Bassendean's way but the doggies held on after Lynchie grabbed his point after some great conversions.
Bassendean is a team that will win a lot of home games and will cause upsets away from home. I’m not sure if they will scrape into the top four or they may just miss out but from only being promoted to 1st White last year they will win more than they lose.

Tony Kay - Had a great contest with Lynchie but in the closing stages Kay was looking after the aggregate and Lynchie was playing more aggressive to try and turn it around for Bassendean. This would be a great return bout.

Scott Edmonds - The bubble burst for Scott this weekend but it all looked good as the rink was tied at 15 all. For the Dogs Scott and his team were doing their job against the danger rink of Opie. Only in the closing stages did Opie pull away. He was well supported by his rink especially Greeny playing third.

Jamie O’Keefe - The big guy got off to a great start. With having some pressure with the N.S.W. tag on him Jamie did what he does best and just plays his own game. His shot selection is second to none and he knows that you can play a shot too early or too late. He controlled his rink and didn't get fazed when the game was in the balance.

Rod Heaton - The rink got off to a good start and had shots in hand to control the game in the later stages. Bill Morrison played well in conditions where leaders could be seen to be dropping short, or not having the courage to cold draw, on the rain affected greens.

THIS WEEK
The Dogs know this week that Mosman Park will be one of their hardest games for the season away from the kennel. Mosman Park after a big win over a inform Kardinya. This will be another big test for the dogs and after Saturday we will either be on the heels of the Silver Tails or back with the ruck. Time will tell and Mosman Park at full strength is a team that will perform.

Doggies with one change: Davis In - Coffey Out.

Alan Davis had made himself available for the Dogs for the rest of the season. Alan had back and knee trouble early but has worked hard to return for the dogs. Alan's big game experience and talent will make the dogs even stronger and this should be one of the last changes for the dogs as they need to settle the side before the Christmas break. Wayne Coffey who was in the best performed rink last week will play in the 2nd's. Coffey will have another chance soon as the Dogs have some holiday makers soon after the break.

Martin’s Prediction: MOSMAN PARK.
