OSBORNE PARK "SAINTS

THE OSSIE PARK “SAINTS”
Flew south for the summer and come home with a prize. Promotion from third spot, must have been a bad year for the Eagles – is that West Coast or Manning – well who really gives a damn.

They call themselves “The Saints” having a good look at their back end - I couldn’t find anybody that resembled a saint.

With strong ties to the mafia and the pet food industry, you gotta wonder where some of their opposition really finished up?

Ossie Park’s skipper’s reads some what of a “who’s who” of the 80’s – Rance Dewson – Keith and Cliff Guelfi and young Duggie Eaton. Together these guys did good, even got a youngster from Tammin in there, who shows a little form and on some occasions a lot more than form!

Ossie Park are big on most things – great club – great members – great company – even got cold beer (so Ecko tells me) – their greens are great – got the great big fella to organize their games – got a great green keeper – bar staff passes the test – gardens are great – parking is easy – showground’s close by – not far from a pub (if they run out of fluid) – national pennant trophy – state pennant flag – last years Rosenthal medalist – even a Scottish international – even got a few fisherman – some market gardeners as well -

Well what lies ahead for this great club’s second sixteen?

Having a tidy back end is one thing – how strong are they up front? Six losses last year was OK in Blue – how many losses will be recorded this year. We understand that a couple of the guns have bolted from their Red side and in the absence of recruiting one or two of their second sixteen may be called on to fill holes further up the tree. Ossie Park can’t afford to lose anyone if they have serious aspirations in White.

Just how good are they – well if you ask Keith there will be no problems – this mob have the system sorted and they can’t wait to “bring it on”

Can’t help thinking, this year, the only roses they will smell are the ones growing in their gardens.

It will be a tough year for the Saints, they should avoid relegation so fifth or sixth spot is where they will fight to finish. Having said that – the wealth of experience in their back end will surprise a few clubs and of course their tiff greens produce some kind of home ground advantage, especially when the pace is up.

In all this year is shaping up as another great year on the pennant track. White is never an easy division to predict and there are always surprise outcomes around most corners.

Flo’s got it all sorted - so here are Flo’s predictions for the First White ladder, come the end of round 18
