STIRLING

STIRLING
What a name this club has. They have produced some Stirling bowlers over the years and posted a few Stirling results and always placed a Stirling feed on the table when catering for their visitors.

Still I liked it better when it was known as the WA Yugoslav Club and to me it will always be “that a way”. Fellas like Fatty Andrijasecevich, Joe Rodin, Branco Katunarich and Marion Yaksich, gee what a rink that would make if they were still around today.

Thinking of words that adequately describe some of their members and “passionate” comes to mind – “hospitable” also sits well in the memory – “excitable” is another that pops into your head. Those words comfortably describe many very nice Croatians that I have had the serious pleasure of knowing. BUT HOW WILL THEY FAIR IN WHITE – being nice guys is one thing – winning pennant matches is something else.

Well done last year, second spot on the ladder was strong reward for a Stirling season. Stirling’s back end bristles with talent, with Tony Krajancic (26 state games) – Tom Norac (52 state games) Mark Pasalich and Andy Tucker you don’t need many more and you must have a competitive playing group.

Andy Tucker has had problems with his health, we believe, and we all wish Andy a speedy recovery.

Jim GupanisApparently, Jimmie Gupanis (club coach) and Adi Mayer will strip for Stirling this year adding to what is already an impressive lineup.

New Stirling coach Jim Gupanis spotted at Carlisle watching last years Premier League Grand Final

There is absolutely no doubt that Stirling will field a competitive sixteen this season and may well be a top four contender. This assumes they have some strong front end performers and that may be where Stirling could be found wanting.

Will Stirling repeat “The Silvertails” performance of last year and gain the promotion all White clubs strive for – sh*t – I don’t think so.

Of the four newcomers to White this year Both Wanneroo and Stirling look the goods. Ossie Park will have a competitive lash as well – still one must remember all clubs are stepping up a rung this year and will find the going a little tougher.

Stirling finished 9 points behind Wanneroo last season and whilst they may do a little better this year the competition will be stronger.

For me Stirling is just a mad chance for a top four spot and more than likely will find some comfort just outside this group but beyond the dreaded relegation zone.

Andy suggests a top six finish for Stirling – 5th or 6th spot in your first year up is a good outcome in any mans language.
