REVIEW ROUND SEVEN
Another week and another five disappointed clubs. The Bulls should consider themselves very unlucky not to have won – just two stinking lousy shots short of victory. Stirling back on their “rug” and just out of the four. Morley show the Ravens “just who is boss” – Leeming do what they do well and lost – Wanneroo collapsed and died.
The only good news is Andy picked four winners this week.
BEDFORD (74) 2 V MOSMAN PARK (75) 6
To the victor goes the spoils and in this case Mossies are now 6.5 points clear atop the premiership ladder.
Both Graybrook and Burke won by 10 and 9 shots respectively over Ball and Mortimer – whilst Rainoldi and Withers were both 10 shot winners over Hunter and Crook.
Mossies keep finding a way to win and that is what winners always do best. They continue to fall over the line in the tight contests and their reward for the first seven matches this year is an UNBEATEN record. Six wins and a draw place them comfortably on top of the ladder and heading for promotion to Red.
The Bulls should be very satisfied with their form as over recent weeks, they have demonstrated they are capable of being very competitive. Just 2.5 points out of the four – The Bulls are showing all clubs that they are a team to be reckoned with.
Next week
Mossies host Melville and Bedford take a short trip to Morley.
MORLEY (83) 6.5 V THORNLIE (73) 1.5
Well, the game of the day again turned into the shame of the day for the Ravens.
Played on a breezy 15 second green Morley showed early signs that their “A” game was being well utilised – John Armstrong was unavailable (due to a run in with his dermatologist) however he was on the sidelines to watch his beloved club bring home the bacon.
Grieve stepped in to cover for JA and cover he did – finishing all over the top of Tricky Ricky’s rink with the final score showing the Mavericks 28/12 winners. Wayne Neilson ruined Paul Pohe’s day running out comfortable winners 26/14.
New skip Gavin Greive wins first up for the Morley Mavericks

That left a few seniors doing battle for the result. Bubbles Vaughan was playing the big Pom and Bubbles looked to have their measure for most of the day however the Pom showed just what can be done with four ends to go. Coming from behind The Big Pom picked up some 8 shots to draw the rink for Morley.
That left Sheridan and McKenzie battling out the last few ends when all others were on the bank boozing. The Big Fella and his team mates had held sway all day along with a comfortable lead however with the visitors needing 12 shots to win over the last few ends – it was never going to happen – final rink score read 29/11 in McKenzie’s favour however the aggregate had bolted by 10 shots.
Well done to Morley and second spot on the ladder must be a very nice Christmas present for the home club.
Next week
Morley hosts Bedford whilst Thornlie have the Saints over for a visit.
MELVILLE (123) 8 V LEEMING (47) 0
The Magic scored 72% of all shots on the day – the tightest match was 10 shots with the other three rinks being decided by 20 – 16 and 30 shots.
Well done Melville and what can be said of Leeming – I just hope they enjoyed the beer and Melville’s hospitality as they had very few other highlights for the club’s reel.
To suggest some rebuilding is needed remains the understatement of the century.
The Magic, still in the relegation zone are just 2 points shy of sixth spot – and I’m sure they will fight hard to regain the ground needed to move up the ladder.
Next week
Melville travel to Mosmans and Leeming host Stirling.
STIRLING (87) 7 V HILTON PARK (71) 1
Neville Stevens 24/14 and Tony Krajancic 22/10 were the big winners for the home club with solid wins recorded against Norm Ball and Dan Slade.
The other two rinks were decided by just 4 shots with Travis Simpson getting home over Alan Erceg and Mark Pasalich getting the money over Joe Bajic.
Stirling again showed how well they play on their carpet – still if they plan on a top four finish they will need to win a few games away from that rug. Stirling is in fifth spot just 1.5 points out of the four.
Hilton Park with just 19 points to show for seven outings would be disappointed with their work at Balcatta and with 11 points between them and sixth spot – Hilton have some hard work to do on the road home if they are to hang around in white for another year.
Next week
Stirling travel to Leeming and Hilton Park are at home to Wanneroo.
WANNEROO (50) 0 V OSBORNE PARK (104) 8
They came, they saw, they conquered. Ultra competitive last week at Thornlie – lambs to the slaughter at home. Ossie Park dined on Roo Stew on Saturday night whilst celebrating a huge win away from home.
The only whimper for the day came from Shagger Parmenter who fought out a tight match against Cliff G going down by just a couple of shots.
As for the other three matches, the lopsided nature of those contests defies description. Young Duggie Eaton won by 12 over Doug Watson – Evergreen Rance D by 16 over Derek Bowen and the good looking Guelfi got Golding by 24 shots.
Wanneroo – WHAT IS HAPPENING OUT THERE IN ROO LAND???? The promising outlook at the start of the year is turning into some kind of nightmare on Elm Street, with just one win from seven outings the Roos are in trouble.
The Saints on the other hand have moved into third spot on the ladder and providing they can overcome their heartburn from Saturday's stew they may be hard to contain next week as well.
Next week
Wanneroo travel to Hilton and Ossie Park visit Thornlie.
SUMMARY
Mossies will fill a top four spot at year end – Morley are going very well – The Saints are obtaining dizzy heights and The Ravens need to do some soul searching.
Stirling and The Bulls are knocking on the door, The Magic is almost out of trouble, Hilton and Wanneroo (who play each other next week) both desperately need a win, and “The Doctor” may well be required at Leeming.
There are some interesting match ups for the last round before the Xmas break and a couple of clubs must be looking forward to the break to give their moral a bit of a boost.
Still 11 games to go and you know bowls – anything is possible some days.
In the meantime - put a BIG PRICE ON EVERY BOWL YOU PLAY as you only get to play it once.
Tarah and good bowling to you all.
