ROUND FOUR

WRAP UP round FOUR

The rain came and three games were washed out – two were played out. The points were shared between Leeming and Mosman Park – Wanneroo and Melville and Osborne Park and Bedford. In the two completed matches – Morley found a way to beat Hilton Park by 3 shots and Thornlie romped away with a 48 shot victory over Stirling.

THORNLIE (7) 93 def STIRLING (1) 45

Played at Thornlie

Following 2 or 3 mm of morning rain the game started on grass running around 13 seconds. Then cometh the rain – 25 minutes and 4 mm latter the game recommenced and was played out in good weather on a sticky green.

Across the board, The Ravens front end bowlers put up a great performance and went about setting up a solid start for the home club.

Mark Pasalich’ rink was to be the only highlight for Stirling collecting their only point over Paul Pohe. In a very tight match (15/11) Pohe and his troops stayed in touch for most of the day but just could not get their nose in front – 26 shots over 21 ends is a low scoring affair indeed.

Glyn Vaughan ran out a comfortable winner over Neville Stevens (20/13) – Tony Churcher set it up all day putting on a grand exhibition of leading. Vaughan and his boys were always in control albeit the scores were a little close on occasions.

The Ravens had promoted Ric Gilbert to skip the troubled Penman rink and what a turn around – at the 21st end it was Thornlie 28 Stirling 7. With Murray White on fire and “Super Glue” playing steady – it left Alan Petchell and Tricky Ricky to finish off and finish off they did in grand style.

Never troubled on the score board all day they went on to record a 21 shot victory over Alan Erceg and set up a memorable day for the Ravens.

That left the big fella playing Tony Krajancic. What promised to be a close encounter after the first two ends turned into a romp in the park for this Ravens rink. At end 21 the score board read 34/10 in favour of McKenzie’s boys.

Ian Rewell set it up all day from the front putting on a leading clinic, Buddah was ably assisted by Jimmie Stean – Dan Penman played a very solid game and the Big Fella chipped in on the odd occasion – a very satisfying win against a strong combination that boasted two ex state players.

The punters were right as Thornlie had been voted some 72% to 28% for a win on this web site – some people out there are great judges.

Next week Thornlie travel to Mosmans for the top of the table clash and that is surely to be a great match while Stirling hosts Wanneroo.

MORLEY (7) 73 def HILTON PARK (1) 70

Played at Hilton Park

John Hannah would have to love the way his beloved Hilton are travelling a draw against Mossies last week and a very competitive showing against the always tough to beat Morley on Saturday. Our contact from Morley reported as follows:

How close was that...73-70...but more importantly, bringing home the bacon 7-1 on a rain affected green (25 minute delay on the first end). As a consequence bloody short bowls. A skipper’s worst nightmare, especially if a skipper is the worst offender.

Back to that later...JA is continuing on his winning way, and so he should... has the best rink and great to see his boys rising to the challenge week in week out - had a pretty handy lead early (13-2), but Travis Simpson's boys fought back to narrow the gap.

Bill Urquhart leader for Morley in a rink that is undefeated

-------------------Bill Urquhart

The BIG (and I mean BIG) Pom, Aung, got out of jail. After having a handy lead, it was whittled away to the point he was down 17-19 going into the last end, but his boys put 4 around the kitty, and it stayed that way...21-19...a gutsy win (short bowls the killer for Bajic).

Wayne Neilson and his blokes, especially Glenn Britten leading, had a hard tussle with young Dan Slade (both skippers playing some bombs), and he would be happy with the 2 shot win and 15 other team mates were ecstatic.

So far, 3 rinks winning. Aggregate bloody close...too close... And here was Sherro's rink losing to Norm Ball (how many balls can there be playing??), mainly because the dumb skipper was constantly short (read above).

Great leading from Barry O’Byrne was keeping the side in the game, with some solid support from Muzz... The last end was to be the decider (nothing worse than not only losing, but being last off).

Morley holding 1, Hilton 3 seconds in a very tight head... Ball plays his last, an absolute BOMB; sits out shot bowl...aggregate to Hilton so far.

The worst player on the rink steps up... the Hilton boys are happy, thinking, this bloke hasn't done a thing all day (and they were right!!). But the minute his bowl left his hand the Morley boys were cheering. Smack...3 down to 1 up.

AGGREGATE !!! 7-1 Morley. The 40 minute and two stubbies drive home was certainly worth the “40 minute, NO stubby drive” down to Hilton.

Next week Morley hosts Leeming and Hilton travel to Bedford.
