ROUND THREE

November 17.2008

The Ravens made the most of their encounter with Leeming 7/1 while Morley handed Ossie Park the same treatment with a 7/1 win.

The game of the day at Melville was a fizzer Stirling came and went with everything; Mossies had to pull out the magic to produce a draw with Hilton. That just left Bedford who welcomed Wanneroo and sent them home with nothing.

BEDFORD 92 (8) WANNEROO 71 (0)

There is some fight in the “ol’ Bull” and fight they did winning across the board to record win number one for the year and let the other nine clubs know they are not going to be a pushover this year.

Following losses to Melville and Stirling Bedford rose to the occasion this week to open their account. They reshuffle a couple on spots on a couple of rinks and I think put in one new face and there you go a winning combination.

The biggest margin of the day was the rink of Paul Hunter who triumphed by 10 shots over Derek Bowen.

Well done Bedford you have climbed above the relegation zone and sit in sixth spot with 10 valuable points

Tony Garrett plays a great game in 2nd spot for Bedford shows his style on Saturday

Next week The Bulls travel down the road to do battle with Ossie Park and that could be a tough one to pick.

STIRLING 107 (8) MELVILLE 66 (0)

Chocolate to boiled lollies in a week, where did the magic go? What happened to marvelous Mel was he out chasing horses? Winning rinks by 20 shots one week and loosing by the same margin a week later – makes life hard for the forecasters.

The game of the day turned into the shame of the day. Would have thought with Nifty Brierley returning that the Magic would have been tough to beat.

Well the “best team money can buy” paid a dividend this weekend and showed just what can be achieved with some smart investment. Tony Krajancic handed Keating and his boys a 13 shot loss and Marko Pasalich showed Silvio V that V really stands for VILLAN and when the dust settled on that rink the scores were 20 shots apart.

Alan Erceg and Mr. Stevens both returned workmanlike wins to earn the full count for Stirling and secure a top four spot for this club. With 16 premiership points to show for their three outings Stirling have got their year off to a stirling start.

Next week Melville drive to Wanneroo and Stirling visit Thornlie.

MOSMAN PARK 72 (5) HILTON PARK 72 (3)

It was suggested that if an upset was to occur here that Mossies new skip may have a part to play here.

Well Dad Ball got hold of Son Ball by just three shots – certainly not a predictable result but a rink win for Hilton none the less. However that was just the start of it with all remaining rinks going into their respective last ends down to Hilton on all three, Mossies Skips stepped up to the plate.

Steve Withers, Lester M and Rags all played huge bowls to win their rinks by the narrowest of margins – 1 shot a piece and as the sun sank slowly into the Indian Ocean a draw had arrived.

Hilton almost did the impossible and beat the unbeatable on their own track. Still if you can’t win then a draw has to be the next best thing.

Well done Hilton – keep battling as your next win will not be far away. Mossies keep their unbeaten record in tact and top spot on the ladder – guess you have to be happy with that.

Next week Mosman Park travel to Leeming and Hilton Park host Morley.

THORNLIE 96 (7) LEEMING 72 (1)

Playing on a 16.5 second green The home side always seemed to have Leeming’s measure, albeit Mr. Ford was travelling against the trend handing out a real challenge to the Penman led rink.

That however was to be the only highlight for the Leeming reel on the day. Vaughan, McKenzie and Pohe all come home with solid rink wins to ensure the home side kept the lion’s share of the points.

Leeming have just four points for the year and to say it will be a long season looks to be an understatement, still we hope that Leeming will find a way to upset a few on route to round 18.

Thornlie would be reasonably happy with their days work and second spot on the ladder.

Next week The Ravens get their first trade test when they host Stirling. Both clubs would be looking for a win here as that match will determine which of these two clubs will occupy second spot on the premiership ladder.

Should be a belter of a game and probably the “game of the round” in white. Leeming are at home to Mossies and that should be another tough day at the office for this club.

MORLEY 82 (7) OSBORNE PARK 70 (1)

Twelve shots separated the two clubs at the 84th end, thought this one may have been a little closer than that. Morley would be impressed with their days work, our Morley man reported as follows;

O.k... 7-1, 1-7, 7-1..gee, how topsy turvy is that.. but a great win yesterday. JA is going on his merry way and played some magic bowls on a very fast and tricky track (a little wind) and well backed up by his team. The big Pom had great backup from his third, Mark Callcott. It was great for Mark to be given a chance to play third, given that he has been leading for a few years, starting this year as a second. And to show the value of a good second, I must mention Graham White.
According to Murray Robinson (Wayne Neilson was unable to play) Whitey had FOUR bad bowls all day. a great effort, and would have been the reason Murray won.

As for my rink, (trying to blood a leader, and a second) they hung in there all day, but eventually the Ossie park boys got on top, we were there most of the day, and it was only the last six ends that told on us.

Fortunately the aggregate was safe, and what a great day it turned out to be. As I mentioned last week, write us off at your peril... there were some very good signs coming out of the game.

We had FOUR guys out, and that gave us the chance to look at some new faces. As you know, we have to rebuild from last year, and the enthusiasm is there, the confidence is growing, so watch this space. We are not out of the running !!!!!!!

Next week Morley travel to Hilton and Ossie Park host Bedford.

An interesting round of results with a couple of real surprises – what will next week through up – round 4 will be previewed by Thursday –

in the meantime good luck and good bowling to all
