REPORT ON ‘ONE WHITE’ 2008 /9 PREVIEW -
ROUND TWO

ROUND TWO

November 9, 2008

A week is a long time in bowls for some clubs and what a difference it can make to the outcome.
Andy’s tipped 4 from 5 and the Ravens were the surprise losers. Well done to the Melville Magic 6/2 winners.
We found out a bit about Ossie Park as Mossies continued on their winning way with another 8/0 result. Hilton confirmed that Leeming are in for a tough year Hilton winning 6/2 at home.
Stirling bounced back with a 7/1 thumping of Bedford and Wanneroo opened their account with a solid 7/1 win over Morley.

John has mostly played as a leader over a great number of seasons and last year represented W.A in the Senior State side.

There have not been many better players in the leaders position than John Birch

OSBORNE PARK V MOSMAN PARK

Well done to Mossies, 8 points was the reward for a 25 shot win over The Saints. Playing at home and giving themselves some sort of a chance The Saints were reasonably competitive, but failed to record a point.

Lester Mortimer ran out 6 shots the better over Keith Guelfi in a 26/20 match – Cliff G although competitive fell 4 shots short of Steve Withers.
Brad Ball’s rink continued their good form recording the second biggest margin of the day with a 21/14 win over the “Wickepin Kid” Colin Fleay.
Last, but by no means least, was the “Rags Show”, giving Young Douggie Eaton something to think about in their 23/15 win.

Well Mossies started the year as favourites and with 2 from 2 deserve their start status – Ossie Park would be less than satisfied with their work and will need to improve a little if they are to worry the statisticians’ in a significant way this season.

Next week Mossies are at home to Hilton and Ossie Park travel to Morley.

STIRLING V BEDFORD

Absolutely no Bull about this result, Stirling confirmed that this season may be a long one for Bedford as they finished the day a massive 61 shots adrift of the “Best Team Money can Buy”.

The Bulls have paid for a full year’s subscription for Cliff Graybrook at the local gym as he looks to be the man to carry this year’s load for Bedford. Cliff always the competitor bought home the only point for his be-lovered Bulls, recording a 20/19 win over Stevens.

Tony Krajancic Set about destroying Paul Hunters day with a 31/15 result and this set the tone for the other two rinks. The biggest win was produced by Marko Pasalich ably supported by Dinko Golem, Mayer and Bulic coming home 32/5, a 27 shot margin.

I believe Adi ran out of biro keeping abreast of the score card. Finally Alan Erceg with Marovic, Nairn and Pekovich produced a 19 shot drubbing of the Crook led rink, with score board showing 26/7 on the final end.

Next week Stirling travel south to Melville and Bedford are at home to Wanneroo.

HILTON PARK V LEEMING

Well done Hilton – opened their account for this year with a win at home over Leeming. Dan Slade set the tone for the home club with a great 15 shot win over Alan Pryce.

Travis Simpson with Luke Garbutt as his new third accounted for the Ashworth led rink with the score being 26/15 – 11 shots up at the end of the day.
The newly promoted Joe Bajic whilst keeping the score reasonably tight fell 5 shots short of Gary Ford, the score being 16/21.

The rink of Norm Ball fell 17/23 to Stan Bartlett.

Was good to see Hilton come back following last weeks mauling, however one wonders about Leeming’s prospects for the remaining 16 games, with just three points to show for two outings they are giving the rest of the field a good start.

Next week both clubs face tough games with Hilton traveling to Mosman Park and Leeming visiting Thornlie.

WANNEROO V MORLEY

Our contact from Morley wrote a lot about the “Road To Wanneroo” what a wonderful trip it was up there on nice smooth roads and how quickly good roads can turn crappy – all in the space of five hours – apparently.

The Roos showed they are a side to reckon with this year picking up 7 valuable points, on the other hand, Morley would have expected to go home with more than just a solitary point from this outing, but that is how it panned out.

JA (Mr. Armstrong for those who don’t know him) got the better of Barry Parmenter with a 24/21 win and in doing so produced the only highlight for the Morley Club this week.

Peter Flack played a huge role for Wanneroo in their win against Morley at Wanneroo yesterday
Peter Flack
Derek Bowen assisted by Flack, Gunning and Johnson really fixed up Brian Saul’s day recording a win by 27 shots and the final score was 34/7.
Sherro tells me Brian didn’t get much help up front, know the feeling only too well.

That left Echo and the Pom, with the honours going the way of Echo with a 22/16 result.

Wanneroo are going to worry a few sides this year and Morley will stand testimony to that, well done the Roos, this outcome was more in line with the talent the club has on offer.

Next week The Roos travel to Bedford and Morley host Ossie Park

MELVILLE V THORNLIE

Well done Melville and in particular to Mal Randall who contributed greatly to The Mustangs 6/2 win over promotion fancied Thornlie.

Played on a pleasant 14.5 second green, Melville came out blazing and opened up early leads on three of the four rinks. It was Mal Randall that stole the show with a huge win over Danny Penman, it appeared that Mal had it on a string all day converting almost at will on many occasions, however when the dust settled the scoreboard read 30/10 in favour of the home team.

The other good performer was Silvio Vassallo, who recorded his first win for his new club. Silvio and his troops were in front all day running out 24/18 winners over Paul Pohe. With a 26 shot hole in the aggregate that left McKenzie and Vaughan to battle for some respectability for the visitors. Steve Hughes held a lead most of the day over Bubbles Vaughan. It was the sustained efforts of Tony Churcher, Terry McCormack and Rosco McMillan that eventually crumbled Steve’s lead and the visitors went on to record a 4 shot win for the Ravens, score board reading 23/19.

That left McKenzie doing battle with newly promoted skip Joe Spadaro. The big fella, Ric Gilbert, Jim Stean and Buddah Rewell held sway all day, despite some very tidy leading from John Birch with good support from Rowley Ireland and Kim Elborough.

At the 21st end it was McKenzie by 7 with the board reading 20/13.

Melville with a two from two result showed they are still a force to be reckoned with and now fill second spot on the table for their troubles.

The Ravens will need to do a bit of soul searching over this result as I’m certain a win would have been penciled in for this fixture.

Next week Melville host Stirling and Thornlie are at home to Leeming.

Well that is all she wrote for round two – well done to all the winners and better luck next time to the losers

Tarah and good bowling to all
