REPORT ON ‘ONE WHITE’ 2008 /9 PREVIEW -
ROUND THIRTEEN

Bedford sneak out of the dreaded RZ – Morley stay on top with 8 – Stirling make another 8 and claim second spot – Leeming still winless – The Magic and the Roos play out a draw.

MORLEY 95 (8) V HILTON PARK 60 (0)

Our Morley man reports as follows;

Hilton Park came to Morley pretty confident they could knock us over. and why not... the week before they got hold of Mossies. Fortunately our blokes weren't put off by that. Taking each game as it comes, and definitely not getting ahead of ourselves.
On any given day any team can be beaten. Stay focused, and do the job...the boys did just that yesterday in pretty good fashion...Morley 8, Hilton zip.

JA and his boys are going on their merry way, racking up big winning margins, continually smothering the kitty with top class bowls. They seem to have the ability to cover each other, making them the best combination in our group.
They got off to a great start, leading 14-0, and never let go of that commanding lead, running out eventual winners 30-18. The other rinks can only look at their board and play with more confidence... Great win!!

I am not sure, but it would seem that size DOES matter. With AB returning next week, this is the biggest team around...combined weight around 70 kg, height 7 ft 13in. pretty daunting to say the least. The big Pom, Aung, continues to produce. Big Gavin Lowry, playing second, proves the theory that a good second is invaluable in any team, and he covered for the leader in great fashion.
Mark Callcott drew extremely well on occasions, and hit some fantastic drives. Nothing like having confidence...it rubs off, and the big (there is that word again) Pom finished off the work done by his boys...23-19...excellent!!

In a pretty tight game where ones were the norm (except for a five very early) Murray Rob and his blokes celebrated an overdue win.
Unfortunately two had to leave early, but the other two carried on. The old silver mare...oops...stallion, had an average day leading, the second, Brad Moyle, came to the party when it counted, playing a few beauties, and the third, Andy Elmer found some line and weight to convert some tight heads.

Muzz probably played his best bowl on the last end... Three or four down, game lost, he trailed the kitty to hold second shot. and a win was likely...but Travis Simpson had all the backies...sit Muzz and game over. His first did nothing...we smiled. His drive did do something, but not enough, and Muzza’s boys walked off...REALLY smiling...16-12.

Wayne Neilson, like JA, is going merrily on his way, chalking up another win, beating a hard nut, Norm Ball. His leader Barry O'Byrne had a reasonable game, getting close when it mattered, evergreen Graham White did what he does best (the call, great bowl whitey, was heard pretty often), Bryce Gunson, still using bowls from the 18th century (they actually take grass) chipped in often, and the skip did what he does best...convert when down, add when holding. All in all, a close game that could have gone either way.
Beating Norm is never easy, and for the boys to hang in there was to their credit. Well done!! 23-19.

On top of the ladder, but staying focused. Next week is no gimme, and we travel to Leeming. Not over confident, but belief in each other holds a team together...and we believe!!!!

Next week

Morley Host Leeming and Hilton Park are at home to Bedford

MELVILLE 76 (4) V WANNEROO 76 (4)

It was the Marvelous Mal and Echo show at Melville on the weekend Mal wins by 15 and Echo wins by 13 – both doing their level best to bring home the result for their respective clubs and despite these two very strong individual performances a draw had arrived.

The other two rinks went one each way with Brierley 5 shots the better over Knight (last weeks big winner) and Watson 6 shots the better over the Hughes led rink.

Both clubs would have wanted the aggregate as both still dwell within the RZ – still with five matches left in the season one of these two clubs should survive – not sure who it will be however we do wish them both well.

Next week

Melville visit Osborne Park and Wanneroo host Stirling.

MOSMAN PARK 84 (7) V LEEMING 63 (1)

It was a win for Mossies and Leeming remain winless for the year thus far. The Lions good performance this week comes from the rink of Morris, triumphing over Lester Mortimer by 5 shots.

Steve Withers kept it tight in shaking up the Clayton led rink by 12 shots – Ball fell over the line by a single shot over Gary Ford – that left Rags Rainoldi and Young Tom Glendinning with the outcome going to Mossies by 13 shots.

The Lions will win one before the year is out and we should run a competition on which club the win will be against, has anyone any suggestions?

With Mossies back in the winners circle once more and now a comfortable margin above fourth spot they can start getting ready for the finals.

Next week

Mosman Park visit Thornlie and Leeming are at home toMorley.

BEDFORD 85 (6.5) V OSBORNE PARK 74 (1.5)

Rance Dewson provided the highlight for the Saints reel this week with a solid 8 shot win over the Watson led rink.

It was Cliff Graybrook who set up the win for the Bulls with a solid 14 shot victory over Young Duggie Eaton. Paul Hunter finished 5 shots the better over Edwards whilst Kevin Bourke and Keith Guelfi played out a 19 all draw.

The win moves Bedford out of the RZ albeit by just a single point – so The Bulls will be keen to get some more wins under their belt and keep themselves in sixth place or better.

Next week

Bedford visit Hilton Park and Osborne Park host Melville both very important matches for all concerned.

STIRLING 76 (8) V THORNLIE 60 (0)

Touted as the game of the day it turned out a very solid win for the home side.

The Ravens poor form away from home continued and now with just one win from six outings it seems the Ravens definitely don’t travel well.

Still you cannot take anything away from Stirling – they came to play and play well they did collecting all that was on offer for the day and sending the Ravens home “plucked”.

Alan Erceg set the tone for the home side with a 5 shot win over Paul Pohe. Nifty Stevens won by a single shot over Bubble Vaughan. Mark Pasalich continued his great form winning by 8 over Tricky Ricky and the Kracker and Macka show went to Kracker by 2 shots, the only end Tony and his lads were in front all day was the last one.

Storling's talented Blake Nairn plays two for Tony Krajancic, he has a promising future, he is a big boy for a 16 year old and has big ambitions to do well in the sport. Don't be surprised to see Blake's name feature in major events sometime soon

---------------------Blake Nairn
The Carpet Kings win again at home well done boys and this win sets you well in second place on the ladder just 3 points short of top spot.

Thornlie hang on grimly to fourth spot and with some tough encounters in front of them they will want a few wins to keep themselves there.

Next week

Stirling travel to Wanneroo and Thornlie host Mosman Park

SUMMARY

Both battles are hotting up – the race to fill forth place on the ladder is between Thornlie Ossie Park and Bedford. These three are separated by 9 points.

The Relegation battle is on in earnest with just 6.5 points separating sixth from ninth.

To say aggregate wins are important is an obvious understatement and we can all look forward to a few tight matches during the last five outings for this season.

Next week is the fourteenth game so player movement will become more difficult. Selectors – get it right on Monday and give your respective clubs every chance of success.

Question – will Leeming win a match this year and who will it be against? Let Sherro know your answers before Wednesday.
