REPORT ON ‘ONE WHITE’ 2008 /9 PREVIEW -
ROUND TEN

REVIEW ROUND TEN

The round of upsets – The Roos roll Mossies – The Carpet Kings roll Morley – The Hilton Boys roll The Ravens – The Magic grabs The Bull.

In all - three of the bottom four sides romp to victory in round 10.

Ossie Park make the four, The Ravens just 4.5 points above the dreaded RZ.

WANNEROO 80 (6) V MOSMAN PARK 63 (2)

Rags senior had to work apparently and Rags junior led the rink in place of Dad. It was the Echo and Shagger Show at Wanneroo.

Echo and his merry men led Young Rags a merry dance and at days end the score board read 18 shots up to the home team 28/10 – well done Echo, I just know the beer would have been a little sweeter on Saturday night for the big bloke.

Shagger Parmenter was the other big winner for the locals – handing out a 25/11 lesson to Steve Withers. Boys my heart goes out to you as I have been on the wrong end of the scoreboard for a couple of weeks myself – never very nice.

Lester the Jester was a winner 19/18 and Brad Ball did his best to even the account with a 23/9 win over Derek Bowen – still as meritorious as that was the score at the 84th end was 17 shots in favour of the home side.

Wanneroo showed that they have the cattle and on the run home will need more of the same if they are to spend more than a year in White.

HILTON PARK 95 (7) V THORNLIE 68 (1)

What a difference 10 weeks makes – in round 1 Hilton lost by 53 shots in round 10 they turned that around by 80 shots winning by a margin of 27 on Saturday.

All I can say is well done Hilton Park. The green was flat – very playable and about 13.5 seconds. At end 84 I tripped over a bunch of very sour grapes as I headed for my bowls bag – just joking fellas.

Dan Slade led the charge for the home club jumping McKenzie early and setting up a match winning lead with the scoreboard reading 14/0 after about 8 ends. That lead was maintained to the end with Slade running out comfortably in front 25/11. It was a great team effort on that rink and HP are to be congratulated.

Travis Simpson extracted the best from his boys finishing 22/16 over the Pohe led rink. Chris McMahon recorded a 23/15 win over Tricky Ricky and his rink apparently John Hannah played a very serviceable game supporting his Skipper very well.

That left Norm Ball and Bubbles (Houdini) Vaughan to play out the last point. Well be it great bowls or very good luck Houdini and his rink did their magic picking up a six on the last end to take home the Ravens only point for the day, well done Glyn, 26/25.

The win keeps Hilton’s options of survival alive and provided the most serious of wake up call to the visitors.

Thornlie – touted as premiership prospects at the start of the year – are yet to win away from the comfort of home and perhaps they should consider changing their name to “The Great Pretenders” either that or man up and start to play bowls like they can.

MELVILLE 104 (7) V BEDFORD 63 (1)

Marvelous Mal Randall continues to perform well and showed a clean pair of heals to Kevin Bourke winning 30/17 reversing Bourke’s fortunes from the previous week.

Crook stepped into Neil Watson’s shoes and his rink went down big time to Fewings with their score board reading 34/12 at the 21st end. Steve Hughes achieved a comfortable 11 shots win over Paul Hunter – assuring the home side of 7 points.

That left McCormack and Graybrook to fight for the last point. Well Cliff did what he does best and won again – finishing 11 shots the better over this Melville combination.

Both clubs sit with 38 premiership points one in 6th the other in 7th spot on the ladder. The season is certainly hoting up and as was the case last year – there will be as much interest in the bottom four as the top four – this must be good for bowls – never a dull moment.

OSBORNE PARK 120 (7) V LEEMING 63 (1)

---------Keith Guelfi, Tomlinson
Bill Tomlinson(Leeming) and Keith Guelfi (Osborne park) in action at Osborne park

The Leeming Lion writes as follows;

Well it was consecutive road trips for our embattled club to start the New Year and two consecutive thumping’s to go with it. Unfortunately nothing has changed over the Xmas - New Year period with the lions pride severely dented and only 12 miserly points to show for the year.

With selectors ringing the changes faster than a NAB cup game in Darwin, the quest for winning combinations is proving elusive and almost an impossible task.

Anyway, it was to the “home of good grass” we travelled and got exactly that with superb 16.5 – 17 second conditions and a brilliant deck to play on, a real credit to Osborne Park. 120 – 63 final score was a tad flattering for the home side as apart from one rink the other three held their own until late in the day. At the half way stage there would have only been a dozen in the aggregate, the problem is this game involves 21 ends and the Leeming boys need to learn to compete for the total duration.

In Short.......
Some great lead bowling from Adam and crucial head changing bowls from Boyd kept the rink in their control for most of the day. Rance Dewson is a quality player and consistently smashed a hapless Harburn who lacked luck on the day.
The Keith Guelfi rink was dominant all day and hammered home a commanding victory. I think the bar did well out of this rink as the only other winner on the day for Leeming.
In what was the surprise rink early 7 – 0 up, Ian Gurr gave the home team a scare for some time until consistency and the evergreen Duggie Eaton took full control. Some big scores were dropped late in the piece!
In the only shining light for Leeming - some great lead bowling from Ryan Havercroft, ably backed up by Bartlett, Drimatis and Parker gave us our solitary point from the day. In a gritty come from behind win on the last end, credit goes to the boys for the win. This has been our best performed combination for weeks now so keep it up boys.

Doug Eaton Osborne Park was in fine touch against Leeming

.

Till next week........where we get to play at home since mid December. Fire up lions and let’s make a game of it!

The Leeming Lion

In two weeks time Leeming host Hilton Park and The Saints travel to Mossie Park.

STIRLING 74 (6) V MORLEY 64 (2)

The Carpet Kings did it again. Mossies last week – Morley this week – just who will they roll next.

Morley lost the services of Wayne Neilson due to injury and Graham White stepped into take his place. They faced off against Nifty Stevens and the result was a very competitive one with the score at 18/16 in favour of the home side at the 21st end.

JA did what JA does best and won again finishing 5 shots ahead of Alan Erceg – the score being 21/16 in favour of the visitors. The Big Pom – also having a pretty good year finished 1 shot ahead of Marko Pasalich – Mark always the competitor must have kept things tight all day with the final score reading 17/16 also in favour of the visitors.

That left the other rink – Tony Krajancic V’s Murray Robinson. Tony K back after a week off produced the difference in this match – running out comfortable winners with a 24/10 result for the Carpet Kings.

Stirling has slipped quietly into third spot and will no doubt be looking to maintain that position over the remaining eight games.

Morley will be looking over their shoulder as they hold second spot with a very slender margin. No doubt they will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Wayne N as he will certainly be missed if unfit at Morley’s next outing.

Next fixture for Stirling is a visit to Bedford and Morley are at home to Wanneroo – both a couple of very interesting matches.

SUMMARY

Mossies suffer two losses on the trot – Leeming place both hands firmly on the wooden spoon – Thornlie is slip sliding away – Stirling and Ossie Park are on the march – both Bedford and Melville have given them selves some sort of chance to make the four. Gee what more do you want – interest, interest and more interest?
I’m off for some practice so Tarah and good bowling to you all
