ONE BLUE NORTH PREVIEW
November 14, 2007 ROUND TWO
I am back in terrific selection form managing to jag 2 out of 5 last week. Doubleview and Sorrento saved me from complete humiliation as upsets were the order of the day. I thought Stirling & Scarborough might just get home but
I expected North Beach to be the “good things” for the day.
However, Osborne Park smashed them with the Ken Sutcliffe and “Chalky” White rinks doing a real number on the confidence of their “Blues” counterparts.
MORLEY VS BEDFORD
Even though it is very early in the season Bedford already look in a heap of trouble. Brian Tupper from Bedford (pictured) recorded a very good win and I know from personal experience after playing him in a scratch match about 7 years ago wondering “why isn’t this guy playing for Australia”.
However he will need to keep repeating those performances and receive help from the other rinks if they are going to avoid relegation. Morley, I think are one those steady sides who will be around the place but cannot afford to lose these games as they will also start to look at the bottom of the ladder rather than the top.
Morley 6-2
NORTH BEACH VS SORRENTO
Even though it is on the “Blues” home ground it is hard to pick them on exposed form. In week one John Coles ( pictured) was well beaten but he burst back with a huge win on Saturday only to see the Geoff Devenish and Brian Werndley led rinks get thrashed.
Mike Vitale remains unbeaten; however I am a big fan of the “Swans” and think they may have too much all round strength in this one. I am not a fan of dropping the bottom four but what it does succeed in doing is injecting life into every game.
If, North Beach were to lose this match they will 0-3 and will also start to worrying about being a second division club next season.
Of course, a victory changes all that.
Sorrento 6-2
SCARBOROUGH VS DOUBLEVIEW
The top of the table Doubleview travel down the hill to take on the “Seagulls” at home. Eddie Johnson Jason Wholahan and Gary Nelson are performing well whilst State Fours winning skipper Winton Langdon is waiting to taste his first victory . They will be matched up against Barry Powell, Ron Kuziela, Steve Stokes and Michael Murray.
This should be a good game but Scarborough will need to show more resilience than they did against Warwick when the game was “up for grabs”. Taking nothing away from the “Magpies” because they fought it out to the end where some of our boys probably need to think a little harder when the pressure goes on.
Scarborough 6-2
STIRLING VS OSBORNE PARK
Stirling lost last week whilst Osborne Park won handsomely however I cannot make a case for the “Saints”. Stirling will be angry and back on home carpet, I expect them to exact some revenge.
Tom Norac will be keen to trouble the scorers after being beaten in the first two games with what appears to be a very good side at his disposal.
STIRLING 8-0
WARWICK VS WANNEROO
I was very impressed with Warwick last week and John Mather in particular. John obviously battling heartbreak with the passing of his beloved wife played extremely well under intense pressure. He played to very ugly heads most of the day but in typical John Mather style he never tossed it in and in the end played a pivotal part in Warwick defeating Scarborough.
Gerdz & O’Sullivan reversed the previous week’s disaster with emphatic wins. Wanneroo have not put a foot wrong and will be delighted with the great win over Stirling last week.
The usual suspects in Widermanski, Bowen, Watson and company will be hard to beat but I am opting for the “Magpies” at home.
Warwick 6-2
Good luck to all teams
