ONE BLUE NORTH REVIEW
February 11, 2008 ROUND TWELVE REVIEW
WANNEROO MOVE TO THE TOP OF THE LADDER
Scarborough 87 (7.5) (5th) def Doubleview 77 (0.5) (2nd)
SEAGULLS ENJOY THE VIEW
The Scarborough “Seagulls” travelled up the hill to play neighbours and top side Doubleview on Saturday. At first glance a score of 7.5 to 0.5 looks like Scarborough had it comfortably in hand. In truth, every rink with the slight exception of Brian Axford came down to the last bowl. Brian went into the 21st end leading by 4 and added another 2 to that score. Steve Stokes went in 22-21 up but was four down when he played his last bowl and got second shot for a 22-22 draw. Michael Murray was down 17-19 and scored a 4 to win 21-19 and Tim Murray was down 17-18 and picked up a two for a 19-18 win.
Barry Powell was the star on the Michael Murray rink with an outstanding game as a three and deserves full credit for the win.

Scarborough's Barry Powell sends down another top class bowl in the game against Doubleview
on Saturday
Arguably Scarborough’s best player Brian Axford and his very good rink of Ben Garrett, Ray Smith & Paul “Piggy” Miles continue to be shining lights for the “Seagulls”.
Steve Stokes & Tim Murray’s rinks both played well but so did the opposing rinks of Eddie Johnson and Witton Langdon. I was particularly impressed with young Ashley Sharp and it is clear that he has a very bright future ahead of him.
I went to Doubleview thinking they are the team to beat this year and I left with an unchanged opinion. It was a great win for Scarborough and hopefully we will kick on with it from here.
Wanneroo 82 (7) (1st) def Warwick 71 (1) (7th)
ROOS JUMP ON MAGPIES
Wanneroo returned to the head of the table courtesy of a very good win over the Warwick “Magpies”. Wanneroo have a number of outstanding performers this year and are not in first position by fluke. They have a very talented list that is playing as a team.
Warwick are very lucky to have the services of Brian Friend and his band of Tom Gates, John Martin and Benn as they continue their astonishing form of 10-2 with a plus 88 shots.
If a One Blue North “All Stars” was selected they would all have to be in the side. It is hard to believe that with only six games to be played this team is in a club that is in the relegation zone.
Sorrento 90 (7) (3rd) def North Beach 82 (1) (8th)
SWANS FLY OVER THE BLUES
Sorrento “Swans” put some indifferent form behind them and recorded a very good win at home against “The Blues”. The Alan “Angry” Anderson & Brian Werndley match would have been something to watch. Alan won 34-26 which equates to about 3 an end being scored for the entire 21 ends. It is rare to see that sought of score where a team scores 26 and still loses.
Neil Adams continues some solid form whilst Geoff Devenish and team have been as good as any in the competition over the last five weeks. However, despite their efforts North Beach are also getting into relegation worries.
Osborne Park 81 (7) (6th) def Stirling 70 (1) (4th)
Osborne Park “Saints” continue their great run of form and have lifted themselves out of the relegation area for the time being at least.
Peter Appleton Osborne Park (pictured) A member of Ron Francesconi's rink, the rink came up as a whole rink and have played a valuable role in the new found performance of the Osborne Park One Blue Nth side
It is no coincidence that their form improved with Ron “Daicos” Francesconi and Ben Poggi taking over rinks. Both rinks have been in great form and they will have a big bearing on where Osborne Park finish.
On the other hand I just don’t know what to make of Stirling. They have all the names on paper but can’t seem to get it together at the moment.
Alan Erceg continues his great run as a skipper with a perfect 4-0 record.
Bedford 86 (6) (9th) def Morley 70 (2) (10th)
Its official, Morley are the first team in this competition certain to be relegated. They are 24 points away from safety and with only six games left they simply cannot make up that ground.
Bedford are also in a degree of difficulty but if they were to win four of their last six they might just get out of trouble.
Bedford Skipper Radford had a day out with a 29-10 thrashing of his Morley opponent
My selections for this week
Round 13
North Beach will be too good for Bedford and thus ease relegation fears.
Doubleview will thrash Morley.
Stirling on the carpet over Sorrento.
Osborne Park to defeat Warwick at Warwick (Big call, I know).
Scarborough to sneak in against Wanneroo
